《Bounty Cats》Book Two: Chapter 9

Fiona was rubbing a nail sharpener around her red-painted claws over her desk. She hasn't spoken since Rei and Luna stepped into her office and sat down in front of her.
"Hey!" Luna roared. "Hello!"
Fiona dropped her sharpener as she startled. "Oh! Sorry!" She blew the dust off her claws. "I got a little-"
"What the hell is the contract? Did you finally find the Cheshire Cat?"
Rei almost forgot about that mysterious criminal. He was a strange hacker, rumored to be an evil genius. Besides hacking, he committed horrible crimes, sought as murder, kidnapping, and robbery. He was like a virus disrupting the peace in the city. But no matter where the police find him, he always escaped, leaving a calling card behind. It was like he was playing cat and mouse against the MCPD.
Rei and Luna haven't found him either. It was like he was just an urban legend rather than a suspect. But Luna would never give up finding the mystery cat. His bounty was highly worth a lot.
"No, sorry. I got a different contract for you," Fiona explained. “I received a call from the Sewer Cleaning Committee. They wanted my department to hunt someone who is disturbing their service.”
Luna rubbed her hand down her face. “Errrrrrr….. Who is it?”
“Well…..” Fiona drummed her fingers together. “It isn’t a who, but a what.”
Rei blinked her eyes. “What do you mean?”
“One of their sewer cleaners said they encountered something killing their friends. Some kind of slime monster.”
Rei’s mouth dropped. “Sesang-e! Did they say it was black with yellow eyes and a mouth?”
Fiona nodded. “Yes.”
Rei slapped her palms on the commissioner’s desk. “I saw it too! I saw it!”
“Are you on drugs or something?” Luna asked.
Rei shot her glare at the panther woman. “I’m serious! Rally and I went out-”

“You went out with that butt-sniffing dog?”
Rei felt like exploding, but she needed to explain so someone could finally believe her. “As I was saying! Rally and I went to a college bar for a friendly chat. Because someone was being mean to me!”
Luna rolled her eyes.
“When I used the restroom, a giant blob creature attacked me!” Rei continued. “I think it came from the toilet.”
Luna burst out laughing. “That is gold! That is gold!”
Fiona growled under her breath. “Quiet, Luna!” She gazed at Rei. “Continue.”
“Yeah, it almost ate me, but I tazer it,” said Rei. “Rally didn’t believe me because he couldn’t find any traces of it. I swore, I totally saw it!”
Fiona placed her fingers together, touching her lower lip. “So, no evidence?”
Rei shook her head.
Fiona smiled. “I think you will be perfect for this assignment.”
Luna sat up, raising an eyebrow. “Excuse me?”
"If she saw the monster like the sewer cleaners-" Fiona grinned at Luna- "she can identify the monster for you."
Luna shrugged. "Whatever. Is the payment worth it?"
"I will double the bounty since your other attempt failed."
"Okay, but kitty and I will need new guns. Those bastards ruined our good ones."
"I heard Officer Joel received new weapons in the armory. You should meet him before you leave."
Rei needed a new weapon. Her tazer may have saved her life (and shocked her at the same time), but guns were faster to use for self-defense.
"After we get our guns, can I borrow your car?" Luna asked. "Mine is still in the shop."
Fiona responded with a glare.

Officer Joel was a pig Humanimal with short blonde hair, wearing his blue police uniform. His body was oval-shaped, although he has a chiseled face.

Rei remembered a deer officer named Louie Davi who worked in the armory when she first arrived. He was the first officer who gave her the T-gun, and taught her how to use it. He was nice, but Rei never stayed in contact with him since she was busy in the city. She never had enough time to hang out at the police station to get to know the entire squad. Luna didn’t seem to care either when she was more focused on hunting than talking with her fellow law enforcers. All except her partner and her commissioner.
"These are the new shipment that came in last night." Louie carried two guns and placed them on a table in front of Rei and Luna. “E-guns, short for elemental guns.”
Rei picked up the pink one, shaped like a pistol with a black handle and a small energy cartridge below the short barrel. And it felt lighter than Rei’s previous weapon. “This gun is cute!”
Luna examined her new weapon. Similar to Rei’s pistol, except it was purple. “Hmmm. What do they do?”
“Those things don’t transform like the other arms,” Louis explained. “They blast energy projectiles based on natural elements.” He held up four fingers. “Fire, lightning, wind, and ice. They made them to capture or eliminate your targets without delay. Fire is explosion, a very strong blast. If you use it, you better take cover. Hehehe. Lightning shots can stun and paralyze your target, just like a taser, except it is stronger. Wind can blow your targets away or suck them toward you. Quite messy, but your target will not have a chance to escape from your winds.”
Luna lowered the gun. “At least I can still blow up shit.”
“Last, ice can freeze your targets or trap them in an ice cluster. Very effective for catching your bounties.”
“Meos-issneun!” Rei exclaimed.
Louie pointed at the back of Rei’s gun. “There is a dial there to switch your ammunition element. If you fire too much, your weapons will overheat.”
“Is there an ammo limit?” Rei asked.
“Your firing capability is unlimited. Just don’t fire too much, or else your will burn your hand off. The fire element will heat up your weapon after one shot.”
“Are they immune to EMP blasts?” Luna asked.
“They have EMP shields, but they are weak against nuclear electrical pulses. But an EMP grenade will not damage them.”
“Hell yeah!”
Louis smiled. “Want to give those babies a trial?”
Rei giggled. “Ye ye!”
“She meant yes,” Luna explained.
The pig nodded. “The firing range is available now. Be careful not to fire outside.”
“Gwaenchanh-a!” Rei raced to the firing ranger counter before Luna reached her. She checked the dial and turned it to lightning round.
She aimed her gun at the dummy target standing in the back and pulled the trigger. One bolt flashed from the barrel, zipping straight toward the target. The electricity touched the target with a loud zap, shocking the faceless mannequin. It lasted for about ten seconds before the bolts vanished, leaving the target smoking.
Rei grinned a mischievous smirk. “Chung-gyeogjeog-in!”
"Let me try!" Luna aimed her pistol and fired a fireball blast.
Boom!
Her target exploded into flaming pieces, shattering across the range.
Luna threw her fist in the air. "Hell yeah!"
Rei turned toward the pig. "We'll take them!"
Louis placed his hands behind his back and smiled. "I thought so."
With a new gun with four different ammunition rounds, Rei no longer felt afraid. The blob won't stand a chance against her now.
