《Bounty Cats》Book One: Chapter 5

In the hallway, Rei leaned her back against the wall until the panther woman stepped out from Fiona's office. With a grin, she jumped toward Luna's path and waved to her. "Yeoboseyo! I'm Rei Young, your new-"
"I already know who you are." Luna strolled past Rei. "Follow me."
Rei strolled behind Luna as they approached the door at the back of the hallway. "So who are we hunting?"
Luna pushed the door open. "First you need your implant ID and your weapon."
"Implant ID? I thought we get badges."
Luna strolled through a large white room full of cubicles. "Are you stupid? You can lose badges."
Rei glared. "Technically, I am smart."
Luna laughed. "We'll see about that."
On the other side, they approached the elevator in the center of the office section. The staff was still running around, answering phones, and filling out papers. Some were humans and Humanimals since the MCPD doesn't segregate any race. Humans could live in Moreau City, but few of them do. Usually, corporate human people and security enforcers moved to the city since they were monitoring it for money. If a poor human family settled in Moreau, none of them would survive on the ghettos, full of shady predators. Rei was lucky she could afford a suite in a safe district. So much Humanimal crime in the city, only the smart humans feared to live there. If they were corporate sponsors, they can pay anyone to protect them.
While waiting for the elevator, Rei felt someone sniffing her butt.
"What do we have here?"
Rei jumped and swung around. Standing up was a German shepherd man, wearing a black leather jacket and gray jeans on over his leather shoes. Sunglasses shaded his eyes over his brown snort, and his tail wagged behind him.

"Ewww! Did you sniff my butt?" Rei shouted, bursting redness on her cheeks.
The dog laughed. "What can I say? I'm a dog."
"Sorry about my partner," said a pug, approaching the German Shepherd's side. Unlike his partner, he was obese in a gray suit jacket and a pair of trousers. "He has a naughty sense of humor."
"Indeed," Luna added.
The German Shepherd held out his hand toward Rei. "The name's Rally Hunter, and my pug friend is Benny Ace."
"What's yours?" Benny asked.
Rei still wasn't pleased what Rally had done, but his partner sounded nice. "It's Rei Young. I'm a bounty hunter."
Rally placed his paws on his cheeks. "Rei Young? From Metal Petal?"
"Heeheehee. That's right."
"Oh, my god! I love your music! I have a collection of your albums back at my apartment! I was wondering what happened to you!"
Perhaps she should feel happy she has a fan at the station. She almost thought nobody would recognize her in the city.
She rubbed the back of her head. "I, unfortunately, mutated from a Chimera thingy, and now I'm here, working as a bounty hunter."
"The Chimera Virus you meant?" Benny asked. "Oh, sorry about that. Everyone becomes unlucky when that happens. The same thing happened to me in Chicago. I was a detective there. After the incident, I got a new job here with Rally. Without him, I wouldn't have survived my first case."
"What unit are you in?" Rei asked.
"Detective work," Rally answered. "Undercover, forensic investigation, those cookie-cutter jobs by the book."
"Oh, you're detectives. That's neat."
The elevator rang, and the doors opened. Luna tipped Rei's shoulder. "Let's go. I don't have all day."

“Okay, annyeong!” Rei waved to the detectives and leaped into the elevator with Luna.
“Wait! Can I have your phone number?” Rally shouted, but the doors closed in front of him.
Rei glanced up at Luna. “How old is he?”
Luna snickered. “Too old for you, kid. You just got the first taste of the pigs working here.”
“They’re not pigs.”
"Do you know the definition of figure of speech?"
"I do, but I don't judge people."
"That will get you killed. Do what I say, and you will live."
Luna sounded like she doesn't like anyone. How could Rei make new friends if she was stuck with an anti-social lunatic? "Do you know them?"
Luna snorted. "Just two regulars who do all the clean. Rally is a playboy wannabe, but Benny is the wise one. Sometimes they give me vital information when they couldn't go where I can go to. But don't get too friendly with Rally. That dog will do more than sniff your ass."
Rei shuddered at that especially. Never in her life, she will let an adult try to make a move on her. She was too young for that nonsense. "Thank you for the warning."
"No problem, but don’t get too friendly with me. That will get you killed too.”
Rei’s mouth hung. What did she mean by that?

Book 1: The Forgotten Fighter
Follow a collection of chance encounters turned potential allies as numerous forces work to tear through the fabric of reality. Viamarr, a continent in the world of Rinterria, holds host to our tale and to the city of High Morr, which sits snugly on its frozen island in the middle of a great frostbitten lagoon. When High Morr is suddenly crippled by a series of mysterious sinkholes, our heroes do what they do best. Try to run. Keep up with them to find out where they end up and what exactly is chasing them in return. I hope to publish a new chapter 3 times a week. This is reduced from my previous number, hopefully temporarily, due to an increased workload outside of Royal Road. I welcome any and all feedback to improve my writing, so thank you for taking the time to check out my page.

In Pursuit of Bark's Finest
On the frontiers of transhumanity’s expansion into the galaxy thousands of light years from the light of Sol, things can get rather chaotic. There are countless millions of nascent interstellar nations securing their interests, pirate ships prospering off plunder and deniable mercenary work, dissidents setting up their own civilizations, and other groups all trying to push an agenda. When these groups crash into each other, the results can become extremely messy and convoluted. Recently, a frontier nation calling itself the Red Star Union has found itself at the focal point of one such complication. A freighter under their protection has been sabotaged, hijacked in interstellar space, and robbed of its cargo. This would be bad enough even if all it were carrying was luxury goods, but the freighter Nebula Plow was carrying more than just normal trade goods. Indeed, her cargo of Non-Orientable Wormholes for use in starship power plants was both very expensive and very, very dangerous. Now the Red Star Union has to worry about a pirate crew running around with several extra devices capable of converting matter into antimatter with negligible energy cost. With those, the pirates could be capable of inflicting untold damage if allowed to leverage their ill-gotten gains into a stronger position, a possibility the Union finds completely intolerable. Unfortunately, all that the Red Star Union has to go on for evidence is two names; that of the captain, and that of the ship. The Captain is going by the possible pseudonym of Fuller, while the ship is named Bark’s Finest. And thus the orders came down to the Union’s Bureau of Starforce Intelligence: find more information on these pirates, conclusively identify them, and figure out where exactly they’ve gone to ground so that the fleet can crush them before they get established. Of the many agents that the bureau assigned to this mission, one would happen to play an important role: Field Agent Madeline Zargosty. This is her story. This story is entirely pre-written, and will have one chapter released per week. If you want to read it all ahead of schedule and get access to some premium-exclusive bonus content, the entire book is available for purchase; links to the appropriate storefront pages will be posted at the end of each chapter. This story is also being posted to Scribblehub.
