《Bunnymancer》Chapter Eight

As soon as he began to cast his spell the Boss Bunny was aware of him and started to lumber over. The thing was huge! Up to his waist in height! Based on the corpses of rabbit’s around it, Dan figured it had somehow begun to start leveling up from the free experience he had given it. Oops! Luckily it seemed either it or the system had decided to level up it’s strength and constitution over it’s dexterity, though Dan was betting it was still able to move when it needed to!
He finished casting the spell as the Rabbit got within two meters of him and the corpse twitched before getting up. Dan meanwhile leaped off to the side to avoid the bunny’s own leap. Dan could feel his hare stand on end from the close encounter. Meanwhile the Zombie rabbit just stood there until Dan shouted at it. “Attack the abyssal raging bunny!”
That seemed to do the trick. The zombie took it out mid-air with a flying tackle. It may have been about half as large as the boss bunny but the zombit seemed far stronger than it did while alive. Dan finally got a moment to try out his new skill and took a step back to try.
Attempting to tame Raile. Battle of Wills initiated.
The Raile, as it was apparently named, stopped in place and almost forcibly turned to look at him. A patch of rock shot out from both of them and started clashing in the middle. Dan found the rocks quickly moving back towards himself and with an effort of will forced it back. He couldn’t help but think how cliche this kind of fight was. Seriously? Even if they are balls of rock this has been done before.
Suddenly the Raile’s intelligent eyes lit up and it made a mad hop at Dan. But the Zombit showed up just in time to force it off of him and Dan realized he was so caught up in the usual movie and book trope of forcing your ball to the opponent that he didn’t realize he could move… he could have phrased that better on second thought. Though his second thought cost him dearly. The Raile stood up and with an obvious effort of will sent the balls of rock flying at Dan, causing him to fly backwards and smash into a tree, losing nearly a third of his health in the process.
Taming attempt failed. You have two more attempts before being unable to try to tame this creature for twenty four hours.
Great, now he was on a limited number of times he could tame it as well, nor could he really afford to wait twenty four hours to try again if he failed. Just as Dan struggled to his feet his Zombit fell to the ground dead. From the Raile or from his timer expiring he had no clue nor the time to check as the Raile came rushing at him, far faster than the lumbering gait it had used at the beginning of the fight. Just barely managing to get his shield up in time, Dan blocked the hit and had to stand his ground as the Rabbit pushed against the shield just under the spike.

He really had to get a better shield, his spike really only seemed to be useful when attacking. Having more spikes throughout the shield would be helpful against this abyssal rabbit! Showing off his strength, Dan managed to push the Raile back and leaped to the side as it tried to rush him again. As it passed Dan stuck out the spike and instead of passing straight through the skin it scraped against the rock-like fur which seemed to be covering it, doing very little damage in the attempt. Understanding that he wasn’t going to break through the tough skin he switched tactics to aiming at the eye and mouth. Needing to go toe to toe with the rabbit to do so.
The Raile seemed to pick up on what he was doing almost immediately and began to narrow its eyes when looking at him. Though this helped him somewhat as the Boss Bunny couldn’t maneuver as easily with its eyes nearly closed. Deciding to try to end this stalemate Dan tried to tame it again.
Attempting to tame Raile. Battle of Wills initiated.
The rocks appeared between them again, but instead of just standing there, he used the Raile’s hesitation to leap forward and stab its eye. The Rabbit howled in pain, Dan had no clue Rabbit’s could make a sound like that, and jumped back, one eye red and swollen. Obviously unusable. Despite the obvious pain it was in, it never let up on the Battle of Wills. Forcing the rock ever closer to Dan, freaking out at the last second before the rocks rebounded against him, he pulled up his shield and managed to block it, at the cost of lowering his head behind it and sliding back a few feet and almost losing his balance. Down at half health, he started looking for some way to retreat. While he had partially blinded the rabbit, he had no idea how he could beat it.
Then something clicked and Dan realized he had a new spell he hadn’t used before that would be very helpful. Feinting a stab with the spiked end of his shield, he jumped to the side while casting a spell. The corpse of a nearby rabbit shuddered as the skin, meat, and bones flowed off the rabbit corpse and covered him… gross. Though despite the gross looking visual he didn’t feel any different. His health did rise six points though so it was a win for him. It looked like he had another second before the Raile caught up with him so he quickly drained another corpse.
He then turned around just in time to catch the boss on his shield. Due to the unexpected maneuver Dan was in the perfect position to stab up and into its other eye, blinding the thing. He dodged backwards as the Rabbit hopped around in anger unable to see or find its target anymore. Dan’s chance to get this thing under control was finally here so he did the only thing he could think to do at the moment.
Attempting to tame Raile. Battle of Wills initiated.
The Raile’s rock was much smaller now and it couldn’t seem to put as much force behind it. Though that mattered little as it was still far stronger than Dan it took every ounce of his will to slowly push the rocks back towards the Raile. With a surprising last burst of energy the rocks sailed straight towards Dan until he stopped them a centimeter from his eyes. Letting out a sigh of relief he had a much easier time pushing it back, the boss apparently spent and unable to back up the blows anymore.

Quest Complete! You have killed the Raile! Calculating rewards… _Error_ Raile alive. Quest incomplete. _Error_ Raile non-hostile. Please wait, elevating issue.
Seriously? Seriously! For the love of Cladicus he had completed the quest! The quest didn’t specify to kill it, it just said to “Show it who was the master of the forest”! If it wanted him to kill it, then the system should have said so. Ugh, just… fine. Dan could wait a bit. He needed to go over his skill increases anyways.
Skill Increased: Shield Bash (Novice II). Killing small animals with a shield is great practice to use your equipment properly! Probably shouldn’t let your parents know about this.
What? Why was that so snarky? Besides he hadn’t spoken to his parent’s in forever… though perhaps he should remedy that. Before the thought could move further he started reading again.
Skill Increased: Necromantic Resurrection (Novice III): By bringing back more powerful foes you have learned that sometimes they won’t listen to you. In fact they may even attack you! But keep bringing back more and more powerful enemies! It’s a good way to level fast.
Skill Increased: Necromantic Healing (Novice II). You’re doing what with those innocent bunnies? Gross, maybe you need to see a doctor.
Dan tried not to let his frustration show at the snarky messages, but it was close. He knew the system was messing with him and trying to piss him off. Speaking of…
You’re breaking my world again? You’re lucky I’m not breaking you at this point. Let’s see here. You failed the quest? No. You did technically complete it since apparently I wasn’t specific enough. The variable reward was meant to indicate you should kill it faster using zombies to gain more rewards. You know what, let’s see if I can do this… it’s time people stop breaking my world.
Dan had no clue what was about to happen and stood in place for several long minutes before the system graced him with more info.
I can’t do this without giving you extra ‘rewards’ so since you seem to be enjoying rabbits so much we’ll let you hang around them even more.
Forced Class change. Bunnymancer (Rarity - Unique): A Bunnymancer is a Necromage who’s focus of study has shifted to rabbits leading them to specialize in this class! Now they are able to communicate with both living and dead Rabbits while gaining familiar’s and summons based on past Rabbits encountered.
Since this ‘reward’ isn’t fully suitable for your quest I am forced to give you something more. Now stop breaking my game before this becomes more than a joke for us. Don’t even bother starting a new character, you’re stuck with this early specialization until you do something worthy of a class reversion.
Skill Gained: Summon Glitterflit (Novice I). Need a heal? This bun bun has got your back! Summon a Glitterflit for up to 60n seconds where n equals skill level. It’s level is equal to your own. Mana Cost: 50 mana
Raile is no longer tamed. Raile has become your Familiar. You may commit all of your mana and 99% of your health in order to resummon this beast to your side when fallen (This cost cannot be reduced by any skill or modifier). It will gain levels based on its own experience modifier as well as sharing your passives and unlocking skills as its level increases. Current Level: 3
Skill Gained: Bunny Lover (Novice I). All Rabbit based summons or revived Rabbits now cost 50% less resources to bring to your side, however attempting to summon or revive anything that isn’t a Rabbit will cause the cost to increase by 50% after all modifiers are calculated. Nearby Rabbits will not attack unless attacked first and nearby wild rabbits have a small chance to come to your aid while fighting. Cost: None. Passive
Title Gained: Bunnymancer I (This title is forcibly shown as the active title at all times). Your progress as a Bunnymancer is shown in this title. By leveling this title up you can show the world how committed you are to your bunny army! Now you are able to command twice as many rabbits as you usually would be able to as well as gaining a once a day free skill to rmake a Rabbit minion stay for thirty minutes.
Dan couldn’t believe his eyes. Now he was no longer an all powerful necromancer… he was a Rabbit overlord. Not even something cool like foxes… Rabbits. How? He had completed the quest, it was up to the system to not be vague with his quest rewards, yet he could do nothing but sit by and watch as the game fell apart. With a sigh Dan knew he wasn’t going to give up on the game. Despite being stuck with such a lame class this game was probably the coolest he had ever experienced.
Gone was the cramping of hands on his keyboard, now he could fight one on one with his enemies! Rise to power and actually experience being a warrior. It was such a cool experience. Yet here he was whining like a child just because he proved he could overcome some arbitrary quest boundaries. No! He was going to show people who was king of the forest as the quest said he was meant to and he wasn’t going to back down!
“Gods help up! They're surrounding us!”
Dan heard the scream somewhere in the fox territory. And there it was. His chance to prove to others that he was the best mage in the game! Beginning to jog towards the shout, the Raile, with its newly healed eyes, began to lope after him. It was time to hop into battle!

A World With or Without Aliens
Nothing matters. It's not my opinion, it's a scientific fact. This is neither good nor bad, it just... is. I watched my entire country burn, fried on a patriotic pan after some jerk fired a bunch of nukes at the docile fleet of alien ships hovering over us. Who gave this moron such power? I don't know. Everyone involved is most likely dead by now. As for me, I can't die. I feel pain like a normal person would (I think), but no matter how terrible the conditions, I will never die or pass out. Fortunately, a lot of alien technology survived its crash to Earth, so I get to spend some time playing with it until Mr. Author gets bored and decides to screw up my life. Beware, this has a "harem" tag. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm the main character and am therefore subject to this novel's timeline. While this bars me from the sweet ignorance of Chapter 1's me, it does have other perks... for example, I can tell you that heroine number one is personally responsible for kil-!? H-hey, back off! I'm your character, so if you didn't want me to be like this, then you should've written me differently! Randomguy here! In all seriousness, this novel is meant to explore the concept of nihilism as a post-apocalyptic/supernatural-scifi/satire told from a nihilistic introvert's first-person perspective. As you heard from my unsettled main character, each heroine is going to be a different type of horrifying socio/psychopath with dark motives and dangerous abilities (most of which are psychological). Why would I do something like this? Because I am, in reality, a nihilist who is often frustrated by weird things, like unrealistically dramatic stories, the industrialization of art (specifically music), and people who think swimming in brown creekwater for five hours is a "fun" activity. Don't get me wrong, neither me nor my character are depressed, we're just malcontents who make a lot of nerd references. I feel like the true essence of an "everything is worthless" perspective is lost on most pop-culture figures. The closest character I can think of at the moment is Rick from Rick and Morty, who is a drunk, angry nihilist that experienced tremendous loss. I, personally, find this belligerent state of mind to be very relatable, and have incorperated it into every chapter's introduction. Here, the main character talks directly to the reader (and me), shamelessly complaining about some semi-relevant facet of society, which probably doesn't make much sense... it's not really supposed to, though. These "angry nihilist" moments are just a peak into the main character's everyday existence, and also act as miniature rage-journals for me. It will sometimes take a subjectively 'positive' turn, but not very often. This is because reality isn't good or bad, "it just... is". I will eventually bring it full-circle to optimistic nihilism, since that seems to be a more practical way to live (and by "practical", I mean "doesn't create mental health issues"). It is, of course, a satire. I did this because most unnecessarily emotional moments or people usually make me feel kind of awkward, so I decided to mock them. That is, I plan to mock the characteristics about them I don't like in characters based solely off said characteristics. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy my story!
