Chapter 0056

“Talk! Why were you following me?” Altreyes used her best mean voice in an attempt to intimidate the little kid. It did not work. No matter how hard Altreyes tried she could never do scary. It always turned out funny.

Her brothers said she was too cute and adorable to do mean and scary. She’d show them she can do mean and scary. Grrrr…

“Are you stupid?” a condescending voice asked. Pitch black eyes looked peered at Altreyes from a incaparably adorable face complete with fat rosy cheeks accompanied by dimples framed by thick black hair. The boy would look like the pictures of a cherub everyone decorates their place with during Valentine's Day if only he wasn’t wearing an arrogant expression.

So what if her intimidation technique looks like a pomeranian trying to take down a chihuahua? She’s still bigger than the brat.

“I’m the one asking the question here. What were you doing following me around town?” Think mean thoughts, think mean thoughts, Altreyes silently chanted as she tried to interrogate the brat before her.

“Nothing.”

“So you don’t deny you were stalking me huh.”

The little boy stared at Altreyes as if he encountered a mentally damaged patient running away from the psycho ward. Altreyes wanted to smack the haughtiness from the little brats countenance. The way he stared at her remind her too much of the way she stared at Madalinos.

No doubt he regrets meeting her.

“What are you going to do if I did?” He tilted his head upwards like he’s trying to look down on her and the only thing limiting him is his height.

Damn arrogant brat. She’s going to spank the hell out of him and nothing can stop her from teaching him a little lesson.

“Little boys needed to be spanked.” Altreyes got ready to do just that. She put the little brat over her knees and was about to give him the wallop of his life when the boy started struggling.

“Help, someone beating up a child.”

“Ha, scream all you want. I’ve already scouted the area. The patrols won’t be here for another 15 minutes.” Altreyes was confident in her scouting abilities. She may be directionally challenged, but pattern recognition is no problem for her.

When she was flight training earlier, she kept tracked of all the patrols, both in the air and on land. There are fewer guards in the air, but their range is larger than the guards on foot.

Altreyes forgot one thing: other players.

“What are you doing to the kid?” a black hair guy dressed in a classic silver armour came running towards the duo.

Bam.

Bam.

Bam.

She’d get her licks in even if there is a witness. They can’t take her to jail here can they?

“Stop it right now!”

“Big brother, help me!” the little boy screamed for his brother’s help. Altreyes didn’t believe for one moment she hurt the little brat. His life went down by 3% during the entire ordeal. Kitty bites does more damage than her spanking.

Stupid older brothers see what they wanted to see, a mean vicious woman beating up his little brother for no reason.

However, the big brother didn’t have to push her to the ground and check his brother out as if she left severe wounds on his body.

“The little one cause mischief and gets caught then calls for reinforcement.” Altreyes sneered as she got up. “Welling, you are going to realize you picked on the wrong person.”

Altreyes drew out her weapon and got into a fighting stance. The scenario seems like a big farce to her. The bad guys always sent the cute innocent type to lure their unsuspecting victims into a secluded place to kidnap them. Altreyes ignored the fact it was she who lured the little boy into a secluded place to begin with. She was also the one doing the beating.

Still, the brother’s timing is too convenient for Altreyes.

“An old hag lusting after little boys has no right to talk.” The black haired man drew out his sword and got into a fighting position. Although a sword has disadvantages fighting in an enclosed place, judging by the way he drew and holds his sword, his skill is better than Altreyes with her dagger.

Fight with pixies for a day doesn’t make Altreyes a pro with daggers. There also the little issue of Altreyes cutting her fingers when she tried to cut vegetables, meat or any other food items that needs to be cut. Kitchen knives and Altreyes don’t get along, or so Altreyes tells herself to avoid the dreaded cooking duty. Her dishes aren’t charcoal or bad. The food is on the bland side when Altreyes cooks, but hey, if her siblings want food, they can either pay for it or cook it themselves.

“I’m not interested in your brother. He’s the one stalking me!”

The stupid big brother turned to stare at the suddenly timid younger brother shying away from the accusing glare sent by his attacker and putting up an act with fakes tears at the corner of big blue eyes, plump lips swollen from…

Ugh, Altreyes knows where this is going. She pulled the act out a couple of times when she was younger.

A year ago was still a year younger.

Altreyes realized her mistake when the new guy lunged at her with his sword. Instead of protesting or trying to reason with the newcomer with weapons drawn, she should have attacked immediately. Her attack might have gone through with the element of surprise on her side. Now the initiative is with the newcomer.

Altreyes rolled under the thrust and tried to attack the bastard’s legs but he saw it coming and avoid it with a hop. The newcomer avoided Altreyes’ counter, but he didn’t realize he was fighting with an Assassin because Asalia and Braile were out of line of sight during her confrontation with the little brat.

Asalia swooped down and attack the newcomer from behind with her scythe while Braile tossed out Dark Bolt one after another.

Hey, when did Braile learn a new spell? Altreyes threw the thought to the back of her mind and concentrate on the fight.

Her main attacking skills are Ghostly Enchant, Spectral Flurry and Haunting Strike. Ghostly Enchant requires the help of her ghost, but both of them are fighting the stupid brother. Altreyes felt they were better utilized as they are. So she can only attack with Spectral Flurry and Haunting Strike.

When the stupid brother was focused on Asalia, Altreyes strucked. She rushed in and attacks with Spectral Flurry and Haunting Strike then rolled out of the way, leaving Asalia and Braile to cover her retreat.

Most games have a paper-rock-scissor relationship with damage dealers. Tanks are strong against melee combat, but weak against range/caster classes while range/caster classes are weak against melee combat class.

Given what Altreyes knows about the general game mechanisms, she wasn’t surprise her attacks barely did any damage. Asalia and Braile did more damage than her since Asalia is a ghost that does physical attacks yet her attacks incorporates dark elements which bypass a plate armour physical defense.

Braile is pure range, which the stupid brother is weak against in the first place, so most of the damage dealt with him is done by Braile.

The combat log would read something like this:

Altreyes Spectral Flurry does -10 damage.

Altreyes Haunting Strike does -15 damage.

Asalia auto attack does -59 damage.

Braile Dark Bolt does -88 damage.

An Assassin player being out damage by their own pets. Erica would laugh at Altreyes and taunt her for choosing the wrong class then flaunt the Sword Dancer dps while Sylphie will smile her secretive smile and say nothing.

At lower levels, a pet out damaging the player is normal. What matters is the damage at higher levels.

Since Altreyes is an Assassin leveling with powerful ghosts, she doesn’t care how her damage compare to her pets since it is all her damage.

The stupid brother isn’t so stupid after all. He realized Braile was the most dangerous among the three attackers, so he tried to target her but she stayed out of his attack range. He tried flying to get to her but the ally can’t accommodate his wing span and if he does leave the ground to challenge the ghost in an aerial battle, his little brother will be vulnerable to Altreyes’ attack.

Some people might stay their hands against a cute little cherub like his brother, but it has already been proven the Assassin is willing to stoop so low as to attack a poor defenseless little boy to achieve her agenda, so he isn’t willing to go on the offensive.

Since he can’t go on the offensive, he intends to run with his little brother in tow. They can get revenge later.

Altreyes knew what the not so stupid brother was going to do. In his place, she would do the same. She can’t do anything if they decide to run. Her hit and run tactics work well in enclosed spaces but if he were to run in an open space, then Altreyes will lose the terrain advantage.

Without the walls blocking his wings, the not so stupid brother can pick off Braile and Asalia then come for Altreyes.

The not so stupid brother made a feint, then turned to grab his brother and escape. Just as Altreyes didn’t take player reaction during her confrontation with the bratty stalker, so did the not so stupid brother did not take in consideration player response.

Two people blocked the exit to the alley just as he was trying to escape.
