Choose your race.
Ummm what? What race am I supposed to choose? I look around seeing nothing but pitch blackness and those words glaring brightly in front of my face. Race? Ohh I get it now. This is some new virtual reality game my brothers bought and decide to create an account for me to grind their gold and be backup support solely reliant on other characters to kill for them but so necessary in group setting.
Damn stupid brothers. Couldn't they just call me, text me, or heck email me to log on. Though yeah, chinese farming a game for them has tiring and I have been making excuses not to log on, but breaking in my house, tossing a virtual reality helm on me and logging me into a game is a bit much. Don’t they know mom will kill us if we don’t do well on our finals.
Fine. I'll choose my character, get into the game, log right back out, head over to their damn house and give them a piece of my mind.
“Okay game, give me a list of the races that I can chose to play.” I don’t know who I’m saying it to but apparently it worked.
Up popped the prototypes of the races I can choose as my character. Man the developers have outdone themselves. The characters are detailed and finely drawn. Whoever they hired as their artist must be world class. No hardship here staring that these characters. Furthermore none of the races have an “ugly” class.
Seriously, if there wasn’t a bonus to some classes, who would want to be an ugly goblin, weird looking troll or a hairy dwarf. The game developers got away from those archetype. Instead they went through the elemental route.
First the Landian, land animal characteristic such as cat ears, tails and claws. Then there’s the Aquarius, creatures of the sea. Some water serpent, some water man looking things with fins as their ears and webbed feet. And are those tentacles? Wow, where’s the mermaids with a soprano voice and we’ll have a classic. I know, the water serpent thing can be the mermaid. Instead of fish fins for legs, they have snake tails.
The Infernos are the most human looking race there is. Humanoid with weird tattoos. And my favorite, the Aerials. Humanoid creatures with wings.
Yes, wings. I’ve always wanted to fly, and now it seems I could. I’ve always envied the birds that could take to the air to get away from all the smoke and fogs of the polluted cities. The gold I could save on a flying mount wouldn’t hurt either.

There are three different type within the Aerial race. The Ruse Marren have wings similar to that of a butterfly. Beautiful gigantic wings spanning 8 to 9 feet from the body, yet easily folds along the spine, giving someone that arrogant, ramrod, stiff like they have something stuck up their bu...back look. Or someone carrying a staff on their back. Hey, I can be generous with my assessment.
The Tajin Nost are leathery bat wing humanoid. Their wings have joints, allowing them to fold their wings in like a cape. Knight of the realm, with a dazzling white charger and cape that flutters in the wind. Very majestic.
I think of angels when I see the Perrian Let, ducks when I’m hungry. Feathery wings. Big, bulky, molting wings dropping feathers here and there. I can pluck those feather and pretend I’m having peking duck later. Yum, peking duck. And a pillow. A nice soft pillow. Pluck those feathers.
How do they control those wings of theirs? It looks hard to curve around the body and how in the world would these suckers walk in tight spaces huh? There’s always these cave like dungeon and I’m gonna say to my party members, “Grease me up and pull as hard as you can.”
The other 2 races have a way of folding their wings that so that should they have a need to be in tights spaces such as a narrowing winding passage of a cave, they can scrunch up their wings and walk. The Perrian Let, not so much. Maybe they can fold their wings, hmmm, I know, under the armpits and wrap around the body, crisscrossing at the center of the body with the wing tips ending around the upper thigh. The arms can be freed to fight. Sight might be limited, with the wings block peripheral vision.
I switch back and forth among the 3 races. Choosing a race is hard work. Actually choosing the character name is the hardest part. My younger brother spends 3 days creating a list of potential names, hoping the ones he like doesn’t get taken.
Oooh what’s that. Race description.
Ruse Marren: These dainty creatures like to flutter in the wind in an indiscernible pattern. Due to their tough fibrous wings, the Ruse Marren are able to perform maneuvers in the sky that most find almost impossible to duplicate.
Yeah nice description, but it’s the details below it that interest me. +10% to agility and +10% to dexterity.
Let’s see the other races.
Tajin Nost: These predators in the sky dive bomb their prey with deadly accuracy. Gigantic wing spans and excellent vision allow the Tajin Nost to hone in and overpower their prey from massive distances. +10% to strength and +10% to precision.
Perrian Let: These majestic birds of prey fly far and wide to hunt prey. The musculature of the wings were built for long distance flight through some of the toughest conditions. +10% to constitution and +10% to endurance.
The Perrian Let it is. I rarely pick classes that allow me to capitalized on either agility or strength, but everyone needs hit points.
Now the customization of my character goes something like this:
Gender: Female
Face: Already inputted
Hair color: can be change later by visiting a salon
Hair style: can be change later by visiting a salon
Eyes:
Height:
Body type:
Feather color: White: changes as a characters grows and develops
Wing color: White: changes as a characters grows and develops
Wingspan: Small: changes as a characters grows and develops
What? Why in the world the developer do this to us gamers? Does this mean that we don’t have a choice in how we look or do the developers want to milk players of gold by forcing us to pay for customization. In the other MMORPG I’ve farmed, I found a rare dye that sold for 3k gold. Could the developer be going that route. Damn greedy pigs!
I’ll just get this done, log out, and get even with said brothers. They have some nerve to do this to me. I know their account name and password!
Hair. I like silver or red. I would’ve said anything but black, but there some god awful colors out there. Puke me green for example. I hate that light yellowish green color. Dark green, emerald, jade or just plain green or yellow is fine. Just don’t mix it.
Hmm, not silver. My wings are white already. More white on white doesn’t look good. And red does not match my complexion or facial feature. Dark blue? Blond? Oooh dark purple, with bangs framing my face and curling down my back. I like that combination. I can always change it later in the game or reroll and create another character with a different look. Although, I want to try save the rerolling process as a last resort. I’ll still be in the same situation, but next time I’ll just agonized over a different color combination.
Now for the eyes. I always like a either a bright aquamarine or a light hazel on my characters. Can’t change this characteristic in game so… dark blue it is. Bright aquamarine is too blue. It doesn’t match with my hair or my skin tone since they are using my real face.
Height. There two option for this. A drop down menu from small to giant or an input box for you to enter the desired height. 5 feet 4 inches. IRL I’m 5 feet. I don’t like being short, but I don’t like being tall either. 5’4” is on the short ish side of normal, but that’s the ideal height for me.
Body type. Slender. I can’t identify with the voluptuous body type with double D boobs and wide hips. It’s just not me. I wouldn’t mind a C cup leaning towards the D with a somes flare at the hips, but the not exaggerated v shaped female anime bodies.
Feather color is a weird one. From what I can tell, the developer didn’t design the Perrian Let to have smooth skin. Instead they have small feathers overlapping each other all over most of their body. There are some featherless area such as the face, torso and abdominal area. I would assume the breast for females are also featherless. They cover the private area of character with a bikini swimsuit.
I pushed the enter button and confirm my character. A new phrase popped up.
Enter your name.
Leviene. Easy peasy. It’s the name of all my main character in any MMORPG I’ve played. And it’s not something someone would think of. I never got the “that name is taken” message.
Enter another name.
Altreyes. Name of my alt.
Enter another name.
How many names do the developers want anyways. Rayael. Done.
Enter your lineage name.
Ugh. Arganox.
Confirm your character.
Leviene Altreyes Rayael Arganox.
Race: Perrian Let
Gender: Female

Height: 5’4”
Body type: Slender
Feather color: White: changes as a characters grows and develops
Wing color: White: changes as a characters grows and develops
Wing span: Small: changes as a characters grows and develops
I press the confirm button with impatiences. Get on with this.
Confirm your character by typing confirm in the input box and press enter.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14

Humanity's End
Given a year to prepare by the mysterious ‘system’ for contact with the wider galaxy, humanity must work to ensure the Earth’s defense is ready to meet any challenge. Sadly, most of the world seems dedicated to tearing itself apart as the year-end deadline gets closer. The west is in barely contained Chaos, while the east descends into internal conflict and war. The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. Beside these brave warriors, tanks, helicopters, artillery and more stand ready to defend humanity at each of these powerful installations. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.
