《Jupiter's Rising》Chapter 33 – Cabin skills

Absorb energy from the surrounding environment, process it through your energy core and finally manipulate it into the elements of your choosing before compressing the energy into a tangible form of matter whether it be gas, rock, earth, wood, water, etc.
Having found a decent location for the base camp, I didn’t dally too long as it was going to become night soon and I really didn’t want to sleep outside where I didn’t even know what kind of new creepy creation was going to show up. I flexed my muscles and stretched a little before doing a couple of breathing exercises to make sure my body was doing good and started working.
I started by gathering a nice basketball size obsidian colored rock and started using the skills I learnt from earth spike and the rock needles I created and started molding the stone in a two disks. I continued by making sure the disks were about a third of a centimeter thick with my mana without breaking it and finally made the edges completely serrated like a saw.
My energy manipulation wasn’t amazing but having practiced with the needles for over a month helped me control objects with my energy within a short radius and I eventually had the idea that this skill could be used for more than just assassination type attacks with the needles. Just like when you shoot a fireball and control it in a certain direction, this level of manipulation can do amazing things.
I started concentrating with a calm expression on the two disks and created a link between them and my energy by imbuing it with a steady flow from my crystal core which seemed to really help with the manipulation part and started making the “saw blades” start rotating.
It didn’t take much effort before I got a slow spin going but it took a while before I got them spinning at good speed for my cabin creation.
‘If only I could make them spin this fast instantly, haa, my enemies would die from my superior penetration. Hehe, superiod penetration.’ Yes, I needed to get some sex and soon because all this intense hunting, running from giant OP wizards and trying to grow in power leaves a brother frustrated at times. The women in the village weren’t all that bad as some of them were quite cute but unfortunately, some asshole just had to go a burn it down.

I also regretted now going back to ransack some things but the scene of everyone just burning and running away just left a bad impression on going back to pilfer and see whatever gory sight remained.
Focusing my attention back on the task at hand, I started sawing some 30 centimeter size trees while using my second saw blade to cut off branches and bumps. I made logs all even sized and made notches in them on their ends so that they fit one on top of the other. It took a few hours but I managed to make it work with what I had.
Sun was finally bordering on the horizon and giving off a glow that resembled the northern lights back on Earth and it was just as beautiful if not more as the golden sunsets I used to love watching while sipping on my lonely hot chocolate. I didn’t really make a large cabin as once I made the four walls, it was close to being a 3 by 3 meters room and I just used some plants to create rope and use all the branches with leaves as a roof, I could of made it out of wood and all nice, but I was just exhausted and didn’t want to continue this laborious crap. Already I would of just made a small tent with some sticks had I not had mana.
Using the saws to cut out a small door and making simple hinges and a incredibly useless lock, I settled down in the cabin for the night.
Eating some leftover meat, I started chatting with Phoenix as I wanted some praise for the cabin and because she wanted to talk about our plans for the next day.
“Not too shabby” Was all I got and I seriously started wondering what kind of fucking magnificence this slime was raised in to call my amazing goddamn cabin. I was starting to think that Phoenix may have been a part of some slime nobility because I if she knew me a little longer on Earth, she would probably bow at how such a lazy, hermit, recluse, empty shell of a man could ever build anything beyond a stick figure on paper and yes, that is in fact, just drawing.

“ We can scope out the perimeter of this area tomorrow and try and get used to the area for a while as we head into deeper regions and try to fight stronger beasts.” Phoenix mentioned as she was going over our to do list to keep busy, mostly to make sure I work on improving myself.
“Yeah, I am worried about what you said earlier at how some of these stronger beasts most likely have their own unique abilities though. Would my needles and my little magnetic repulsion field be enough?”
I was seriously regretting not at least buying or looting a sword or a bow and arrow. I was sure they had a blacksmith but my shitty luck made sure all form of “external” help would obviously burn into ashes within a day of my entering a village.
“Yeah, I am still surprised at how people on your planet don’t really practice martial skills of any sort aside from the sports and some minority groups you mentioned. It’s amazing how a planet could be so defenseless against the universe.”
“Well, you said it yourself Phoenix, Earth was a backwater planet in a backwater system. We didn’t even know for sure whether life outside our planet existed.”
“Hahahaha! I mean you guys had some knowledge as to how big the universe was, how stupid must a race be to think they’re the only ones! Hahaha.” Phoenix couldn’t stop laughing once I made that comment which made me regret it as I still didn’t like my humble origins being mocked.
“Shut up. You’re no better, getting lost to Earth of all places. Some super slime you are.” I tried to get her back but I felt like I just added oil to the already burning reputation that Earth had ever had.
“Ouh, someone is sensitive about Earthlings. Haha, alright it’s fine. I won’t keep reminding you of your super hometown.”
“Sigh, whatever. Oh yeah! Phoenix! I’ve been thinking about this recently but you think if we gathered enough toxic herbs, I could add poison to my needles? It might make hunting easier if they die faster, you know?”
I was really striving to go towards a quick, stealthy and relatively safer method of hunting as I didn’t feel like I had it in me to really be the type to just start one on one matches with unknown monsters or even those super mages. I was considering maybe even learning how to make my own plants or grow poison plants of my own creation as Phoenix mentioned that synthesizing is possible through energy manipulation but sadly, Phoenix didn’t have the required specifics aside from general knowledge on a lot of things.
“Potentially but I don’t think it would be a good idea to use anything that goes beyond stun or paralysis since we may want to absorb the creature or you may want to eat the meat. We could probably make some really toxic stuff but it would be useless if it doesn’t help us improve besides just obtaining their beast cores.”
She did make sense, my fantasy of creating some super bio weapon fell down the drain with that explanation.
“ Also Jupiter, if we wanted to get some level of stun or paralysis we would have to capture a bunch of guinea pigs to test out different combinations of plants from the area.” She added
“Wait, when did we see guinea pigs? You mean those rabbit looking things?” I didn’t remember seeing any guinea pigs and was wondering when Phoenix noticed one.
“No you idiot! TEST SUBJECTS!” Well, let’s just say that when it came to my intelligence, Phoenix was not impressed. Not one bit.
“Oh! Hey! I’m just tired from building this goddamn cabin, cut me some slack!” I however, will deny all allegations towards my superior intellect not being superior.

8 151The Runners of Westal
Anya Vorian wasn't picky. She'd take any apprenticeship that came her way. She, Lori and Andrew had prepared all winter for the interviews, but when only one offer came with her name on it, she suddenly wasn't so sure that she could do it. It was hard work, for one thing. It was dirty. They were respected, certainly, but in the sort of way that one respects a skilled plumber - grateful to have the job done, but glad it isn't your arms elbow deep in dung. In short, runners were odd folk. Maybe it was time to get fast. - A first-person tale inspired by long distance running.
8 117Shadowrun: Blake Island School of Magic
It's a high tech, low life. It's the Seattle Metroplex in 2074. It rises like a steel and concrete cancer out of the earth. Poverty is rampant, corruption is everywhere, crime is out of control, corporations basically control everything, the old United States is fractured, magic has come back and now it turns out that humanity has been joined by elves, dwarves, orks and trolls. The old world ended but the rent is still due. Life goes on. You'd be surprised what people can adapt to, especially if they don't have a choice. One of the places where life goes on is just west of Seattle. Surrounded by the waters of the Puget Sound is an island. On that island is the Blake Island School of Magic. A decade ago it was known for producing some of the most talented awakened in the world. That reputation was hijacked by the wealthy corporate elite who now park their teenage children there. And since it's a boarding school, their parents mostly forget about them. Three young people, who are certainly not wealthy or elite, are chosen this year to attend this school of magic in hopes of revitalizing their reputation for talent. One from the ash drifts of the Puyallup Barrens, one from the most densely populated slum hive in the world and one from prison. This is their story. -- This story is set in the Shadowrun universe. If you're not familiar with Shadowrun, it mostly tells the stories of deniable mercenaries called shadowrunners in a cyberpunk dystopia. Instead of telling another story solely about shadowrunners, this story will tell the tale of young people navigating a world that is indifferent to them at best and actively hostile at worst. Shadowrunners will be in the story and we'll see them operate, but they won't be its main focus. This story originally began in 2017 as a passion project and continues to this day on the Somethingawful.com forums. The unedited version is over a million words strong. There are currently seven books in this series and I am currently in the process of editing them. If you read this story then you won't lack for content. -- The Topps Company, Inc. has sole ownership of the names, logo, artwork, marks, photographs, sounds, audio, video and/or any proprietary material used in connection with the game Shadowrun.
