《Between Gods And Mortals》Chapter 17: Time is war

Ragnarson is thoughtful in the garden where he and the king used to talk and he used to calm down. He's still trying to solve the crime that happened in his head. In his view, it's almost impossible for Ivar to be the killer, but he can't be anyone else. The king knew him and the sword was his.
When they both traveled together to Midgard years ago, he came to see her in his hands, the design is identical. But at the same time, Ivar abandoned his nation, friends, comrades, kingdom and all those who depended to live on Earth and because of that Thor, who should only erase part of his memories in Asgard, decided to erase them all and even put him in a world unknown to everyone.
With his memories erased and a place totally unknown, everyone had given him up for death. From hunger, unknown creatures, environmental hazards. The possibilities were numerous. Ragnarson takes a deep breath, the more he thinks the less he can understand, which leaves him frustrated.
If it were to kill one, Ivar should aim at Thor and not Lumnus, perhaps the Asgardian king is a future target. What Ragnarson is sure of is that someone is moving the pieces and running the game at will. However, it is not possible to know who this opponent is at the moment.
Ragnarson begins to remember Bella who a few days ago went to Midgard on her mission. The warrior realizes that she is so young and already has her father's wisdom. Even though she can't beat her brother for being the council's eldest political liaison. She will try to resolve this war through other means and if possible peaceful.
My lord! Yes… You are awaited in the war room! Right. I am going! Dispensed!
The next meeting will be crucial for the future of the kingdom, all the important people will be there to discuss the next steps, every care is needed because the peace ever seen and lasting has been extremely difficult to build over the years with the cooperation between Lumnus and Odin, the mightiest kings of all kingdoms. All of their work is about to go downhill from betrayal or held grudges.
Ragnarson walks along the corridor to the meeting room, his steps are heavy and deep, the path longer than usual. The warrior keeps thinking about what to do and tells everyone who will be there. The vast majority already know that the assassin is an Asgardian, but they don't know that the main suspect is Ivar. This will shock some who knew him from past wars.
Inside the room, the dome is restless, everyone is talking to each other to the point that it is madness the place where the men who lead a nation should be present, the loss of the king by murder and the doubt of who will take charge leaves the men and women in the room given over to despair and chaos.
It's up to Ragnarson now to clarify everything and show the way for everyone there. Some time ago he was taking care of his family and retired. And the world has changed to the point where he now assumes the roles of warrior and politician, the latter the one he most tried to escape in his entire life. Even Lumnus tried for him in this area.
Likely your old friend and king is laughing right now somewhere. The warrior goes deeper into the room and goes to the back of it. The room is square in shape and has several long tables with chairs for all invited or important members to take their positions, further on a table where the leaders stand in an elevated form to debate or lecture. What Ragnarson is about to do at the moment.

When the warrior takes a stand, the men and women who were arguing with each other are now quiet and sit down to listen to Ragnarson, even after years away, the respect he gives and which has been echoed generates this immediate effect. The door opens and Einar, Siegfried and Erik enter the room together. The warrior had not noticed their absence, such was the confusion.
All right… Let's start the meeting. We have to debate what we will do in the future and plan even for possible war. This future also tells the succession of the throne in its last details. Ragnarson!- Says Siegfried Yes? What did you discover in your investigation? That was the first subject I was going to deal with. Yesterday I managed to discover the possible assassin of King Lumnus! - At this point the room goes into a high ecstasy again that makes it impossible for Ragnarson to continue talking. SILENCE! - Yells erik who wants to hear right away that he's his father's murderer The regicide as you know is Asgardian and his name is… Ivar! What ? - You hear several people saying this with a mixture of anger and sadness We were betrayed by the Asgardians! - says the present elder It's a declaration of war! In the end Thor couldn't stand the peace treaty signed by his father and set up against us! - says Siegfried It's not possible! -unknown voice says Wait everyone! There is no way of knowing if it was really Ivar. The sword used to kill the king was a special one that I had even seen him use before, but there are certain circumstances that we have to assess first! - Says Ragnarson Like this ? We already know who the killer is... - Ask Siegfried. Calm down… Ivar was punished with the loss of memories and was thrown somewhere unknown in this world years ago. He was presumed dead. This fact was only known to Lumnus, Asgardians trusted by Odin and myself. What should we do then? - Erik asks. Let's go to Thor and talk to him… We can't be too hasty! You are crazy ? They killed Lumnus! I'm not! The puzzle doesn't fit! In a few days an excursion to Asgard will be formed! In my view, Thor used Ivar to kill Lumnus. It's enormously convenient to use someone exiled and without the memories to assassinate the king and thereby weaken our nation… From that eccentric blond I'm not surprised. He always demonstrated against us giants - Siegfried says that theory and many in the hall shake their heads at that. showing agreement Everyone knows that Lumnus was the strongest point and unity of our kingdom and peace agreement. Now without him, Jotunheim is collapsing and it would be the perfect time to attack - Again more heads nod in agreement. After the tour, we will decide! For now, we have to act with caution!
The meeting lasts for a few hours, Ragnarson tells all the details of Ivar that he knew to those present there, many are scared and even confused, the death of the king and his assassin is more complex than they imagined. Within it it is decided that it is also marked for election to the next king. Some ask Bella why she disappeared and Ragnarson says she is on an important mission and her presence is elusive. Badly, from what Ragnarson observes, Erik is getting more and more votes, something to be expected, but not so abruptly.
The prince and possibly king approaches Ragnarson and nods his head, pointing out of the hall to talk. Last time the conversation was pretty heated. Both leave the room and go to a corner away from everyone. Erik, before speaking, puts his hand on his head and walks from side to side in a small space. Restless, the prince is distinctly nervous.

Is it my sister ? How are you doing ? - Erik asks this, but it's clearly not the main issue he wants to discuss. Transport to Midgard went well! We will try to keep you informed of what is going on here. I understand. Furthermore… What ? It's only a matter of time before I'm king and I will do anything to avenge my father's murderer and I ask you not to try to stop me! But Erik… Without further ado… My determination is intangible…
Erik walks in the opposite direction, leaving the warrior unable to respond. The elders and especially Siegfried made the prince's head. Which hinders Ragnarson too, since he would need to make political articulation to avoid a possible war and even the throne being given to someone with a strong temper like Erik.
Even though he had little time to analyze Bella, Ragnarson realized that she would make a great queen and would be able to continue the legacy left by her father, Lumnus. However, she saw that she had a mission that only she could do. The warrior doesn't know what to expect, but he decided he would put faith in her success.
The hall door opens again and this time it is Einar who comes out of it, in a short time he has already become Ragnarson's right-hand man. Your help, which was once through swords and tactics, is now through words and politics. The world has changed so much for Ragnarson who had to adapt as quickly as possible.
Einar... My lord... No need to call me that anymore, we're the same now! Right! Ragnarson… I know there's something about this story that doesn't fit… Ivar and Thor should be mortal enemies, not to mention he doesn't have his memories… Did he have his memories manipulated or remembered everything and now he wants revenge? Yeah… I don't have answers either! And that makes me sleepless every day since the king's death... In a few days we'll be entering enemy territory and we don't know what to expect or what answers we'll get! Yes, we have to demonstrate that we are diplomatic first and not point fingers yet! Let's talk to Thor without ulterior motives or being subjective! - Says Ragnarson And after this meeting the king will be chosen… Very likely it will be Erik! Yes, I believe the times of peace are numbered, unfortunately… and my hands are tied. Milor… Ragnarson! We'll talk later, I have something to do now! Understood!
The conversation with Einar makes the warrior realize that he is not the only one with doubts and questions hanging over his head, which makes him relieved that he is not mad. There is something wrong with the king's death and so Ragnarson walks into the depths of the castle. Place where the witches live.
In their last meeting they told about prophecies and their functions for King Lumnus, what he did with them was of such a secret character that not even his wife, daughter and Ragnarson himself knew. Hoping to get answers, the warrior walks to them, as they can see a possible future and advise him. Besides, they said it wouldn't be the last time they saw each other. Which can be interpreted as the ideal time for this.
In front of the big wooden gate, this time alone, without Bella's presence, the warrior doesn't see the door open upon his arrival or before knocking. They didn't anticipate his arrival as they did last time, which immediately puzzled the warrior that they could see or feel something as simple as his arrival. He then decides to hit. His attempts are in vain as he gets no response. Ragnarson decides to be rougher and hits again, but this time screaming:
Bridget, Agnis… Anyone? Please! Let me in! I have questions to ask! - the warrior's despair is heard and he hears someone approaching the door. Ragnarson! We have no business with you anymore! This is not the time for that! - seems to be Lilith's voice. What ? You said we would see each other again! Yes… But at the right time and now it's not! Good luck on your warrior journey! Don't bother us anymore! What ? I can not…
Ragnarson tries to push open the door and force his way in, but automatically he senses murderous intent and is thrown a few meters behind the large door. Falling straight to the ground. The warrior didn't even have time to dodge, the sorceresses don't really want his presence. He decides to give up, and leave. There's no point in insisting if they don't want to.
There was a hope that the witches could help a little more, on his way back to the castle, Ragnarson starts to think about the first meeting with them to see if he can find any tips or something he could help now. He scratches his head and his beard, forcing himself to remember and notice something they said. At the time he saw an ancient memory with King Lumnus that Ragnarok could happen, and that he had chosen the one who could save them all. But before that, Lumnus was preoccupied with something else.
When Ragnarson began to see his memories he was worried that something might happen to the point where he believed the prophecy might be wrong and believed he was possibly dead which it would be impossible to help or resolve. Ragnarson stops walking and punches the wall.
Someone is kidding us! I need to find out who it is before I can't help it anymore!
A few days passed and finally it was time for an excursion to Asgard to speak with Thor. Diplomacy is the best for now, Ragnarson knows that the paths to be followed now could lead to a possible Ragnarok. He didn't speak to anyone about what he heard from the witches so as not to cause despair and alarm in people and around him. Many are already frazzled by the king's death, like Erik.
In the caravan to Asgard, there was the entire dome, like Ragnarson, Erik, Siegfried, Einar and other elders. It is possible to go to Asgard through the terrestrial environment, so they choose horses and some chariots for the end. It takes two days to finally reach the realm of the Asgardians. There they see a very bright and beautiful city, with apparently happy citizens. Not much different from Jotunheim. After peace was established, it reflected in all the kingdoms that could invest in their citizens and in the kingdom.
Einar beside Ragnarson on the horse thinks all this peace may be coming to an end if matters are not resolved diplomatically and Thor has indeed orchestrated the king's assassination. Entering Asgard, some soldiers stop them and ask who they are, after knowing they let them proceed. They whisper to each other and one man immediately leaves while the other keeps allowing them to pass. Probably came to warn of the presence of the giants.
Ragnarson first finds this passivity strange in letting Asgard in, as they are the biggest suspects. Which leads him to believe that Thor may be being manipulated or even acting against them. Walking with the horses for a while longer. They see the great castle of Asgard. The politics of Asgard and Jotunheim are not very different. Both have a castle where all the power of their kingdoms is centralized.
Arriving at the castle, the caravan is received by Thor's employees who receive their luggage and direct them to their rooms to be received by the king of the country shortly thereafter. A common tradition is that negotiations and conversations even on issues of war are civilized and peaceful. Ragnarson and the others go to their quarters and wash up to meet Thor in the hall he will be waiting with his advisers.
The caravan of giants descends and sees another servant to accompany them to the king. Now is the definitive time to find out who the future enemy might be, some of them even hold their breath or don't blink their eyes out of nervousness. Even without Odin, Thor is very powerful and even more so with Mjolnir.
The doors open and everyone enters the hall, the employee closes the door and leaves. In front of them are some tables and at the back of the room Thor is sitting on the tilted throne holding an axe, prompting Ragnarson to ask why he is not in possession of Mjolnir but of another item that is clearly not the mighty hammer that accompanied all these years and made his fame. This catches Ragnarson's attention, but it may have been on purpose. The Asgardian king wants to show civility and be peaceful, aspects he has never shown in his entire life.
Standing next to Thor is Loki, his brother who has always been more prone to politics than violence like his brother and even his father for a long time. He would be a better king than Thor in the eyes of many, whether Asgardians or even giants, so thought Lumnus too. He never aspired to or rose to this point, but there's something that scares Ragnarson and that's the fact that he's dark and cold. As if he was hiding something.
After seeing several warriors, kings and different people, only Ragnarson sees this. For ordinary people and others, he never felt that way, only the warrior can see it. That doesn't say much, but the warrior always keeps an eye out for him. Not underestimating him in any way.
Everyone was close now, and Thor remained seated while Ragnarson, Einar, and Erik took the lead to speak to the Asgardian king. The advisers surround themselves behind them. The king's posture irritates some giants, who he didn't even want to get up with and still didn't speak a word to them. Conduct like this and others always made him hated. Ragnarson is the first to break the silence in the room.
Thor, I'm going to be very direct… As you may already know, our king has been murdered! Yes, a sad fact I knew. What you don't know is that the killer is from his land, he's already shared moments with you, he fought with you, he ate your food... Where do you want to get ? King Lumnus's assassin was Ivar! What ? Impossible! We didn't do anything! - At this moment Thor rises from his throne with anger expressed in the face of an unjust accusation. Loki is surprised too. Yes, he invaded the castle and killed Lumnus, his sword was seen by Einar who is here, he drew it for us and I automatically recognized it. A gift given by Odin only to those who trust.
A silence in the room is perpetuated, now Loki and Thor change their poses and expressions because they know where this conversation can lead. Ivar had been exiled by Ivar himself and was a warrior of great status. Which makes it impossible to take away your guilt or prove your innocence with words alone. He didn't have to keep listening to the giants' explanation to understand that he was going to lead the war.
Ragnarson believes that Thor and his brother remain cold-faced, but hide their surprise and concern in front of their former enemies and now allies. The Asgardian king approaches Ragnarson, Einar and Erik. He looks into the eyes of all of them. He sees the prince holding back from advancing on the king.
Look… We have nothing to do with Ivar, he's been missing for many years, not to mention he's out of memories! - Says Loki in a peaceful tone Does not matter! He may have recovered and YOU ordered the attack on our king! - Ragnarson purposefully raises the pitch to extract something from them No way! We are interested in peace and enjoy it all this time! - Loki is the most incisive while Thor is quiet. We have a history of rivalry that has led to years of violence and wars, and evidence points to Ivar as the killer. Either he acted on his own which I highly doubt or he is being manipulated by someone in order to end our kingdom. Hmm… - Thor didn't say a word, but showed annoyance. Why doesn't he say something king? I made several mistakes in my life, I was selfish, cruel, among many other things you already know. But, I did not kill King Lumnus. You have my word on this and I will do everything in my power to help you. As my brother said, we reap the fruits of peace and we want to continue planting them. This is not enough, Thor. We need certainties...
The conversation lingers and Thor appears to have changed in the sight of Ragnarson and others in the room there. A difficult conversation with the Asgardians was expected, but the attractive ones were good and were important, since they won the guarantee of the Asgardian king. That can't be much and make the future king of Jotunheim nervous, but it's a first step.
After a few days of intense conversations, the giants' caravan to Jotunheim left with peace in their luggage, but still no answers. Apparently, Thor had nothing to do with the death of King Lumnus, let alone his soldiers, commanders or summit members. Coming to the conclusion that the crime would have been committed on his own by Ivar or some other nation interested in the king's death.
At the meeting, Loki explained that the artifact used to erase Ivar's memories was very effective and very difficult to reverse. However, it is possible to be bypassed and recover old memories. Ragnarson still suspects Thor that he doesn't have Mjolnir in hand and is changed. Nobody changes that suddenly.
From now on, there will be intense persecution by Ivar in both realms. Asgard and Jotunheim prepared several soldiers to arrest Ivar and pass his sentence of death. And while this will take place there will be the coronation of the next king of giants.

8 164Rage: Crisis / Consequence / ???
Its been ten years since Seth was given his powers, ten years since his town was driven mad by that very same power, and ten years since its source was shunted into his head. A species of energy beings, a people filled with regret for what their entrance onto this world caused. Regret for the deaths that town perpetuated, the devastation they brought, the blow they served to the once proud heroes of this world. Heroes Seth now hopes to join, hopes to heal and atone to for what transpired. But their wounds run deep, their ire sharp, and their acceptance thin. And to top it all off... Seth's power is run far deeper than he knows, and sees his world in a light all its own. This series is my first foray into authoring, with two parts out of at best four if the readership stands. But part three will still book end nicely otherwise. And I'm not stopping till then. It is action heavy with varied and ramping up fight scenes through out. (Book 1 is heavy / Book 2 a little lighter) It is bloody in places, mildly gory in others, and heavily gory in simulated places. Nothing truly horrifying, I think, but be warned. It has trauma. PTSD is a major part of the story, but I will never trust that I got it completely right, so your mileage may vary on how believable or impactful it is. Lastly it has language. Swearing ebbs and flows as the story progresses and attitudes harden or soften. Sometimes bleeding through into the narration... somehow.
