《Between Gods And Mortals》Chapter 13: The Man’s Slayer

The bifrost transports the two warriors to Earth, they fall straight to the ground and are blind and deaf as the aftereffect of the teleportation. They get up and stay static waiting for their senses to return to normal to know what the current situation is. Ragnarson stretches his arms looking for Ivar and doesn't find him. He decides to call out his companion's name to see if it has any effect.
HERE !!!
Ivar's voice echoes and the giant realizes they are a few feet apart. A few seconds pass and both can see and hear better, and it is possible to maintain an upright posture. They raise their arms and greet each other looking steadily into each other's eyes.
Not a word is said, but it is clear that the two know that the mission began at this very moment. They look around and see that they are in a big, closed, and empty place. There is nothing around. Only multi-column rods that support the site.
Where are we ? - Ragnarson question Odin said that this is the best location for teleporting through Bifrost as there are no humans here. It used to be a place where he brought together several people to work on a common goal of producing something… That's what I understood Hmm… Let's move on then… Before that, what did you bring with you? Since we can't attract attention, I didn't bring my sword. But you won't need to use it around here. I have money with me from the country we are in, another pair of clothes... I get it… Let's get this over with… the faster we go, the faster we can get back! Right.
Ragnarson takes from his pocket the paper Lumnus gave him with instructions on how to reach the treasure. In it appears the name of the city and the region where the artifact will be. He sees the drawing and doesn't understand it yet. The help of local people would be extremely important. The giant warrior who was never one to use his head now has to think deeply about his next steps.
He puts the stone in one hand and looks at it, hoping to shine. Which leaves you disappointed. The stone will only shine when it is very close to the treasure, that is, in the region pointed out by Lumnus. Ragnarson looks at Ivar and says:
According to instructions we are in a city called Cleveland. I can't understand the location of the treasure yet, so we have to find somewhere that knows and ask. If we do that will we attract attention? I think not. We're undercover and we're just looking for a place! Here we go!
Both leave the factory and are outside, looking around. Now you can see noise, big buildings, metal objects carrying people. Totally different from the two of them who live in their homelands. On their first visit to land, the warriors are impressed at first sight.
Let's go to the center of this city. We should get more information from there! - says ragnarson who clearly doesn't want to spend more time than necessary to stay on Earth. Right!
Without knowing anything about where they are and lacking information about the Earth due to the disinterest of both nations and the impossibility of interacting with them in a more abrupt way, due to the laws that prohibit such interaction. Both are just tools of war. They don't know anything about Midgard. Since the mission consists only of searching for the treasure or artifact, more information was unnecessary.
The way was for them to go to a bar in town or something similar to look for information on where to start. But first they walk to the place where the big buildings are, not on the way there. It's still daylight, the temperature is pleasant with the sky all clear.

On the way there, Ivar looks all around him amazed, he sees the peace that is so rare in his world. children playing in the park, people laughing and happy, not having to worry about some war or death. These are impressions at first sight. However, he is also able to observe a large population with many poor people on the way, beggars and people living on the streets.
Which concludes that there is no way to have absolute happiness, but the peace you have or the perception of it is very interesting. The people of Midgard from what he heard work and with their money use for different purposes whether they are necessary or not, it depended on the human situation, some had more wealth than others. Whereas in Asgard, Ivar accumulated money from his conquests and only spent the basics to live on.
The people of Midgard enjoyed peace to the point of spending on things they didn't need or didn't care about. Ivar is amazed at such a difference between the worlds that for a moment he wonders what he would be like in this situation. In which he didn't have to worry if he was going to die the next day but in a job, having a wife and maybe kids. The image pleases him for a moment that gives a smile after a long time.
Ragnarson notices that his fellow missionary is smiling and thinks it's even strange, because until now he was showing a serious expression and knew of his attempt to die. Even though the giant is recognized for being too dry or inert, it makes him empathetic for a moment.
Even seeing so little. It's definitely an interesting place! - Says Ragnarson Yes! I'm curious to find out more! Too bad we won't have enough time for that! Truth…
Some time passes and both are in the center where the big buildings are, much more noise, people in a hurry, vehicles circulating all the time along with their horns. A rhythm they both saw only in battle. Ragnarson sees a large sign with food on it, which makes him assume it's a bar. He puts a hand on Ivar's shoulder pointing to that spot.
Hey look! Looks like a bar. Let's go in and get information! A pub ? After all, we have some similarities. Yes, let's go inside.
The two warriors enter the bar and see something totally different from what they are used to. A clean place, with no screaming people, drunk men and lots of people dressed alike, are likely to be the people who will serve. They stand there watching, that place of different and impressive architecture and look for a place to sit at the table.
A woman with hair in the shape of a ponytail even introduces herself. She has the same outfit as the others in here. She hands us two large sheets with a smile plastered on her face and leaves.
Reading what she just delivered is apparently a list of options you can eat and drink at this place. The two look at this and immediately look for alcoholic beverages, which is what is most consumed in their lands. They go through such a list called "menu" and find only beer.
What else is here is something to eat… - asks Ivar. Is it good? Let 's try. Is he sure? Bar food is horrible! We are no longer in our realms hmm…
Ivar calls the girl who just handed him the menus and orders beer for both of them and a dish called fettuccine, Ragnarson on the other hand orders spaghetti. The girl took orders in a small notebook she carried. By doing this she leaves.

A few seconds later she brings out the two beers the warriors ordered and they are amazed at how quickly. They touch the beer and are again surprised at how cold it is, which makes them smirk because the colder the better. They turn the beer and gulp it down until there's nothing left. The woman standing there is surprised to see someone turn a glass so quickly.
Miss, I think you brought the wrong drink for us... - Says ragnarson I don't think so sir! That's beer according to what they ordered. Is that beer? Yes sir! Oh, right! Sorry! Can you bring me more please… What's your name? Alessandra... Thank you!
Ragnarson didn't think it was beer because it was too weak and too little alcohol. Despite having a good taste, it is very different from what is served in Asgard, precisely because it is stronger. With what the girl Alessandra served, it's impossible to get drunk. Now what's left is for the food not to be too bad either
Both have not yet asked for information about the location of the treasure, they think it would attract a lot of attention if they asked someone directly. So they drink and exchange a few words with Alessandra before the main question.
After ten minutes, their food arrives with such a good smell that it makes the warriors' eyes widen and their mouths salivate. Alessandra puts the house spaghetti chosen by Ragnarson on the table and the fettuccine for Ivar. They pick up their fork and eat their food.
They were positively surprised by the taste. Something like that doesn't even work for the kings of their countries. Such delicious food has never come to the attention of an Asgardian or a giant, which is utter waste and incompetence. They have a lot to learn from the humans of Midgard. Ivar calls alessandra and asks:
This food is delicious… Who was the genius who made this? Well… our restaurant specializes in Italian food. Their kitchen has several spectacular dishes… Do you have more of this type? Yes sir! My gods! I barely ate and I already love Italian food! How funny you are, sir! Alessandra… I need your help! You can see this map here and tell me where it is please! Of course, gentlemen! I'm just going to ask for a really fat tip hahaha Right!
Ragnarson hands the map with the instructions to Alessandra, she observes and makes a strange face at first, it must be because she doesn't understand our language, but with the drawing she could have some idea. The girl takes a very large piece of paper from behind the counter, and brings it to the two men.
The woman puts the map on their table and makes a circle with a pen she uses to take orders. The warriors crane their heads and see a map all detailed with a blue circle. They don't understand anything and look towards the girl. Ragnarson says:
What does that mean? Well… this is the region indicated on the map. It's easy to find, most of the circle corresponds to the Saint James military hospital area… Military hospital? Yes, many soldiers go there for post-war treatment and surgery. Do you have wars here? In Cleveland? Ohio? No, war is not happening in this country I see. How did we get there? It's about ten kilometers from here, you have to walk east and you'll find a big building all full of glass! Right! Let's go! Thanks for your help! Your account will come to forty dollars! Okay, take it!
Ragnarson hands her two stones that he received before going on a mission. Lumnus said before coming here that these stones were precious to the people of Midgard and could be exchanged for the local currency. Alessandra is immediately startled by what is handed to her and says:
Sir, we cannot accept this! Besides being an exorbitant amount that we don't even have to change for it, we don't accept it as payment! Cash card only... Seriously? No, diamonds cannot be used as payments here and I believe in other places as well… What are you? Sheiks? Sheiks?
Ivar notices that the girl is suspicious of them and hands over the paper with a value corresponding to her local currency, interrupting their conversation. She returns the two diamond stones to ragnarson and takes the meal money. The two stand up and Ivar says:
Thanks for your help! Thanks, here's your fat tip! That didn't come from us... - Ragnarson says that and hands a diamond stone to Alessandra who sees them leaving the restaurant.
Alessandra sees the two leaving and can barely speak. She looks at her hands and sees two diamond stones worth more than a year's salary. In the Jotunheim and Asgard kingdoms, diamonds are abundant stones and have no value as they are not transmitters of any kind of magic.
The real value of a stone is judged through its magical effectiveness. They can be attack, telekinesis, strength, wisdom, elemental and more. There is a huge variation in its use. And that's why the price for them is expensive, often not enough money to have them, requiring the exchange or going on a dangerous journey to meet monsters, assassins and looters. However, the price needed to get the best stones and metals.
The warriors are excited now that they've barely arrived and already know the stone's location sooner than they expected. They walk these blocks quickly, Ragnarson asks a few people to ask about a nearby military hospital and they point in the right direction, and they keep walking.
A long way to go on foot, as they didn't want to expose the mission and didn't know how to use human transport. They keep walking until they see the big glass filled one the girl from the restaurant had mentioned. Ivar puts his hand on Ragnarson's chest, and points out that the stone Lumnus gave them has just blinked, which can only mean they're close, plus the treasure is possibly inside.
Alessandra said this is the hospital! Lets go in! Calm! We have to plan our steps first! What ?
Ivar points and Ragnarson sees men circling with guns and dressed all in black. You don't have to be from this world to understand that they are guards and that entry will not be so simple. Furthermore, it is a military area, meaning several trained soldiers, even if they are sick or injured. If they are discovered it will be very complicated and the mission will fail.
Every care from now on must be taken not to compromise the mission, although the two warriors are exceptional in action, they have to use their heads now. The two decide to go into the alley and argue and see the entire field first. Ragnarson says:
You're right! We have to be careful from now on! Let's wait here and see all the movement going on in the hospital and then make a plan Right!
The two warriors spend an hour watching people go in and out of the hospital. They see that many give their name, show some identification and are allowed to enter. The white outfits all come in easily without any problem. There are soldiers who are clearly wounded or even mutilated coming. It hurts both warriors' hearts to see these, in wheelchairs or without a limb, something that can happen to anyone in a war.
The plan is to infiltrate and find the treasure as quickly as possible, which should be at night when your guard is down and you can move around precisely. The two discuss the best ways to infiltrate, including these men in white or soldiers for treatment.
In the latter, the disguise wouldn't be a bad idea because the two had fought a lot of wars, which shouldn't have differentiated too much between their bodies. There are wound marks and marks all over the body from sword blows. Not counting the broken bones that have been many over the years, so they could easily pass for these soldiers in search of treatment.
So what should we do, Ragnarson? I think we should go in like these soldiers, looking for treatment, infiltrate, look for the treasure and only then look for it at night. I see… but why only at night? Wouldn't it be better to take it off the moment we meet? Not! We don't know the condition that we will find the artifact. Okay! I don't want to hurt or involve anyone in this! We are at the most difficult point of the mission! There are many risks even infiltrating! I agree! The hardest thing is to get through the entrance as we don't have white IDs or attire that must be the doctors. What should we do? Hmm
The two warriors are thoughtful and see a large vehicle with several cylinders approaching the hospital, drawing their attention because of the noise. The giant watches carefully and sees that they have several drawings written on them that apparently mean those cylinders might explode. Ragnarson looks at Ivar and says:
I have a plan! hehe You will enter the hospital alone! You will know when the time will be! Stay near the entrance while I get everything ready! Understood! I will trust you!
