《Virtual reality: Sorp》Chapter thirty nine: First wave city!

The guys entrance to the city was similar to those before them. They took in the sight, the native people gave a cursory glance or ignored them entirely.
First wave city does not have the ingenious logistics of Perpetuity, as it was built by later generations. These things are all explained in Perpetuity lore.
The city was built with Perpetuity as the model. The difficulty in generating enough power to create an underground railroad system became too difficult.
This does not mean that such plans had not begun. Conveniently for Perpetual Power, or inconveniently for Perpetuity’s people, these plans have yet to be realized.
Of course it is easy to see that this is a planned activity, perhaps a few months from now, such underground transportation system would become a reality.
Some would say that this was a very much intended to slow down general progress of the game. Perpetual Power does have plans to gather the entire world’s population here after all.
Ignoring overarching plans, grand but distant plans for expansion, we can instead look at immediate plans Sorp and the guys have.
It would be easy to get lost in this large city, not to the scale of Perpetuity, but easy nonetheless. It is convenient that this is a virtual world and all that comes with it.
The guys have not strayed from their objective, that is, to reach the First wave reinforcement camp. All they have to do is follow the compass guiding them.
In some ways, the entire city is the First wave reinforcement camp, but there is also a specific point of reference, where all newcomers must gather at.
This is a building. It is not in anyway outstand, and is instead plain. This is one of the first buildings inserted here, according to Perpetuity lore.
This building’s purpose is to manage camp affairs. The building has been outdated and the housing for managing everything is further behind.
Instead this plain building has become a registration facility, a information center, a gateway into the great caverns and general meeting place for people with great individual power.
Of course the actual entrance to the caverns that are worth exploring is far below. But the entirety of the cave complex is considered government facilities.
Below the ground are housing for trainees, employees, aspiring cave divers and other important personal.
In a way, these caverns, refitted to a great degree, have become a world of their own. Sometimes called as the bottom of the iceberg.
“This is the place.”
“Looks like it.”
“Why are there so many people here?”
It has been mentioned in the past that there are other facilities like the Third and Second wave reinforcement camps. They all funnel to First wave city.
But there is more to it. In the city live people that aspire to great things and the First wave reinforcement camp is the path to achieve greatness.
Millions of people, some live their lives content with what they have, but quite a few train everyday in hopes to gain the right to enter the First wave reinforcement camp.
While majority of people can use B.F.M. devices to a degree, not everyone can reach the level required to control more advanced B.F.M. items.
Then there are families of great people that live in the cave system or in the high class part of the city. These people can be considered elites of sorts.

“Sorp?”
“These are strong people.”
Sorp didn’t make this observation on instincts alone. He noticed their movements, even the unique aura that the B.F.M. exudes can be felt.
It is a vague sensation, but it can be felt on people who have trained their entire life or those that have reach certain degree of power. Sorp himself does not emit such aura.
Dart also sensed this aura but he did not make the same inferences as Sorp. Dart doesn’t think in the same way as Sorp. he only felt this place was crowded and he felt something was off.
Most people felt this strange sensation. Like their skin was slightly wet, as if they had just walked into the lightest of drizzling rain.
The people that emit this sort of B.F.M. energy have reached a step where they can actively use B.F.M. to coat themselves as form of defence.
This sort of defence is very unreliable and is better used to power B.F.M. equipment. In short, B.F.M. equipment can be seen as conductors for B.F.M. energy.
A person with enough experience in wielding their B.F.M. can use themselves as a conductor and even emit burst of B.F.M. energy as a form of attack.
In the same way that B.F.M. equipment is better at utilizing this energy, so are weapons and other miscellaneous B.F.M. related paraphernalia.
“We should go over there. I’m sure you can fight these people later.”
Kom reached up and but his palm on Sorp’s back and tried to convince him. To his surprise Sorp’s lips curved into a violent smile.
“Let’s go.”
Sorp ignored Kom and stepped towards the large reception desk, it was relatively crowded but not compared to the human traffic.
This is because most people in the area are not here to register for the First wave reinforcement camp or sign up for a test to enter it.
Majority is here on various other reasons. Mainly meeting to go elsewhere. There are multiple service facilities in the area as well. This can be considered a social hub of sorts.
“Here to sign up for a test?”
Kom was leading the group, he waved his hands in the air and then thrust if forward, towards the burly receptionist.
“I’m here to join the First wave reinforcement camp. We all are.”
Quite a few people glanced their way, it was rare for people to directly enter the camp. Usually people would sign for a test.
They would take a test to measure their capabilities, and if they were within the right age, they would enter, otherwise they’d have to partake in further tests before being given the right to join.
“Oh! Quite a few of you today.”
“Do you know how many?”
“About twenty eight. All in batches of seven, you are the first ones to come in six.”
The man returned to his job, like Kom he waved his hand about before thrusting something towards him.
Quickly all the guys went through, it was straight forward. What was surprising, and something that made Dart suspicious, was that they didn't need to pay a tuition fee this time around.
“Part of the training is considered repayment. For example, cave diving.”
Dart wasn’t satisfied with the vague answer, but he took it to mean they’d have to work in some form. It was only Dart who cared about this arrangement.

Like before, the guys had an updated contract that included a new destination to follow. Just like the previous camps, they had to go for a round of introductions.
They were given updated maps of the underground facilities, if they looked into air they’d see a skylike ceiling, it was quite convincing but also easy determine it was man made.
The underground area was even more busy than the outside city. Not in the same way of people roaming about, but that there endless training areas.
People were on stages sparring, running alongside each other, sitting in groups appearing to practicing the B.F.M. exhaustion exercise and quite a few were just move about.
The noise was entirely different as well. This has to do with the cave structure, it was somewhat overbearing to begin with. When the guys entered the living quarters, the noise suddenly vanished.
“I’m not sure I like this place.”
“At least I can permanently stay with you guys this time.”
Due to the limited space beneath the cave system, some restrictions were in place, one such restriction is the number and size of animals. Four large coreses simply take up too much space.
What Ret was given instead to further his animal rearing is a type of monkey. A monkey that is commonly found in the caves. These Monkeys are both predators and scavengers.
This monkey was on a lease that lead to Ret’s wrist from its back harness. This harness is a B.F.M. equipment developed to control these small creatures.
Like most cave dwelling creatures they have some form of B.F.M. appendages, in the case of this particular type of monkey, it is their tails.
Their tails cannot be controlled by others but they can be taught to use them properly. The B.F.M. Harness is mostly used as a way to embolster these little guys defence.
“And I already like Balboa.”
Ret not only received this animal, he is also considered capable enough to self study. He does however, have the option to seek the help of experienced beast rearers.
The corses were taken in by the First wave government, they’ll be fostered and made to do some menial work fitting for such large durable beasts.
“What do you guys want to do? Rest for a day?”
“I’m going to find someone to sparr.”
Jarem felt like resting for the day, which seemed odd as they had been resting for what seemed like months.
“Ret and Pal are going to find some tail. I’m going with Sorp.”
“Guess i’ll join you.”
It was only Dart that that went alone, he was heading towards the crafting facilities but not before selling his and the guys accumulated information.
Sorp was itching to fight, and there are numerous places to fight. Those sparring in arenas are generally a part of a group, a sort of small team.
This can be a team of two or upwards to a hundred. Majority are small teams and even the large teams will split into factions between themselves.
Due to Perpetual Powers arrangements, the world developed a synergy, and this is why you see rather small groups.
That is not to say that larger excursions do not take place, there can be circumstances where people decide they are willing to take a loss on loot and use overwhelming power.
“What are they fighting with?”
“Their hands?”
“I can see, Jarem. What are those sounds?”
“Sounds similar to electricity.”
While Kom and Jarem chatted, Sorp was concentrating on the altercation. The two fighters didn’t seem to move very quickly.
“Why does it feel like they are just playing?”
“Even I can dodge those strikes.”
Kom and Jarem are no master fighters but they have some experience, their words can be taken into consideration.
Sorp felt the same but he noticed they weren’t really training their fighting techniques as much as they were training their Brute Force Method.
“They’ve got the same aura.”
“Aura?”
“I don’t see any aura.”
Sorp was talking to himself but he still glanced at his friends after hearing their responses.
“Their Brute Force Method is so strong they are using it to attack and defend.”
It was only when he mentioned that they noticed it. When they concentrated they noticed how the two fighters never actually touched.
This is because one is trying to project his B.F.M. energy while the other it to neutralize it. The forces neutralizing can create different sounds depending on how the force is dealt with.
“How are doing that?”
“Why are you looking at me? Ask Sorp.”
Kom rolled his eyes before turning to Sorp.
“I don’t know.”
Sorp stretched out his hand and felt the B.F.M. energy move according to his will. It wasn’t to the extent of actually covering his hand, but he felt he could indeed move it about his body.
When stopped he felt his hand go slightly numb and an uncomfortable feeling linger. It was his bodies first experience conducting B.F.M. energy.
Kom and Jarem watched Sorp fall into a daze. He let B.F.M. systematically travel to every part of his body before he let it enter his right hand again.
“Jarem, here.”
With a very slow motion Sorp thrust towards Jarem with an open palm. He was going to try out the B.F.M.’s energy effects.
“What are you doing?”
Jarem opened his palm and made the same gesture as Sorp, this is one high five Jarem will not ever forget.
“Ah! What the hell Sorp!”
Jarem felt his hand shoot backwards, the quick motion felt like he was about to pull a muscle. There was also a sharp stinging sensation but no noticeable wound.
“Kom, High five.”
“No!”
“Fist bump.”
Kom took a few steps backs before taking his eyes of the excited Sorp to look at Jarem. Jarem looked like a wrong housewife, he wasn’t crying but his eyes teared up slightly.
“How do you do that?”
“Use your Brute Force Method, starting from here.”
Sorp pointed to a point between his eyebrows and then used his finger to draw a path down towards his chest and then up again towards his shoulder and lastly towards his hand.
“Huh.”
It wasn’t just Jarem and Kom that were astounded, there were more than just the two busy fighters and the guys there. Someone witnessed Sorp experiment

Core Chronicles
Core Chronicles is a series of interrelated stories, including in-depth major story arcs and shorter side stories about Cores and those affected by them through direct and indirect means. The first arc is planned to be Dungeon Core with City Building elements in an Urban Fantasy setting. It will mainly follow one main character's point of view, but on occasion, the POV may shift to side characters to give more information about what is happening in the wider world. The stories will also examine how the world changes with the introduction of magic and its various purposes. The System will be between soft and crunchy, with discrete levels and stats for characteristics and skills. But, for example, the health statistic will be a less clear indicator rather than a distinct stat.

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/
