《Virtual reality: Sorp》Chapter thirty four: Subtle or blatant, control is control.

Education, or better, the accumulation of knowledge has been simplified to a point where any individual can absorb and store information easily.
It does not mean that complex ideas are easily understood. However, through possession of every related piece of knowledge, it is easier to make an attempt at understanding these ideas.
When it comes to crafting, it is not really about the materials as much it is about how to interact with the materials. Especially when using a B.F.M. tool.
There has been limited testing in this regard. But Perpetual Power did create innumerable recipes and more can be created at a whim.
These recipes have certain paraments to fulfill, fulfill them and the degree of completion is increased.
This is one side of crafting. The other is mastery of B.F.M. crafting tools. Once mastery has reached a certain level, an item can potentially reach one hundred percent completion.
Each side can be measured from one percent to a hundred. And if both reach one hundred percent, the craft can reach one hundred percent completion.
It is expected that people reach thirty percent completion of the B.F.M. tool and eighty percent completion on the material recipe side.
These requirements were set after testing thoroughly. The upper limits of B.F.M. control or manipulation, is still not considered found.
It is still uncertain whether such a limit can even be found. Perpetual Power has the theory that it is a muscle. Who is to say what the end result of a trained muscle can achieve?
In addition to B.F.M. limitations, Perpetual Power has found various ways to accelerate B.F.M. growth. This is the real life growth of the pituitary gland.
The issues they had with this, was traumatizing pain in the form of headaches. After several years of experimentation, they found that the natural growth of the Pituitary gland does not cause debilitating headaches.
There have also been cases of people who have adjusted to the sudden growth. The science on why this occurs is not yet conclusive.
In the end, Perpetual Power thought of multiple ways to increase people's pituitary growth, and the most neutral way is the crafting system.
The whole world of Perpetuity revolves around crafting for this reason. As crafting professions is a form of training their individual power.
A formidable crafter can be considered a powerful warrior. Or at least with the potential of one.
It is also because of this that Sorp’s advantage has been stunted to a degree. While Sorp is physically gifted and is considered hyper observant. His Brute Force Method, just like everyone else new to Perpetuity, isn’t developed.
Like in many things, it is actually the youngest people that hold the largest advantage. But this age is too young. It is children in the ages of five to nine that posses the best adaptive properties.
The question rises, how was this knowledge unveiled? The answer is without a doubt another sin. Another notch on the travesty that Perpetual Power has committed.
The most prominent reason for this, is that children this young have not yet experienced atrophy to the pituitary gland. And it is easier to strengthen something that doesn’t need to be repaired.
It is also through experimenting on children that Perpetual Power has discovered majority of the ways to better the Pituitary gland.

What is actually somewhat baffling is that the nutrition given free to the entire population in these last few years, has properties that do exactly that.
This is in preparation for their eventually migration to Perpetuity. Once they enter Perpetuity, using Perpetual Powers devices, there will be an additional foreign material in their nutrition.
This is a material that nanomachine use to replicate themselves, as they eventually get excreted from the body in various ways.
It is no considered a waste as any human excretion is recycled. With near infinite power, at least for now, it is easier than ever to recycle efficiently.
Efficiently. Only in the sense that power is not counted as harsh expenditure. If it was, it would be wildly inefficient.
The same nanotechnology used to maintain and improve the human body, is used for recycling. This can be done because nano technologies largest flaw, power, is no longer a flaw.
There are still limits to what these nanomachines can do without risking catastrophic failure. One such limitation is interfering with the human brain.
When nanomachines enter the brain through the blood they only make sure they remain in the blood’s circulation and are otherwise inert.
This limitation is also why Perpetual Power has such strong requirements on crafting, or in better terms, B.F.M. requirements.
It is surprisingly Dart that has advanced the furthest in this regard. For some reason he has a natural affinity for it. Almost treating it as an extension of his arm.
There are multiple applications of B.F.M. within Perpetuity. One such application is that it is possible to control the entire user interface with it. Including drawing out items from the inventory.
Right now, this is a difficult thing to do as it requires more finesse than crafting does. At least if one wants to outperform mental commands.
While both can be considered mental commands, they also wildly differ. It is almost like a person using their non dominant hand to throw a ball. The feeling is similar.
Speaking of dominant hands. Sorp and Dart can be considered ambidextrous. Perpetual Power has found some correlation to B.F.M. control and being able to control all limbs equally.
Sorp spent most of his time training his combative abilities, because it was he enjoyed. His high attention to detail allowed him to experience monotonous exercise differently.
Dart isn’t like Sorp. He seeks out knowledge but he isn’t any more intelligent than the guys. But when it came to crafting he similarly sought to see his knowledge put to use.
Had Dart focused on one profession, it would be likely that he could have completed what the Second wave reinforcement camp asked of him.
The reason he did not rush this, was because he knew he’d be waiting for the rest of the group. He was no in no hurry and instead took it upon himself to study two crafting professions to occupy his time.
As it stands. When it comes to the B.F.M. Dart can be said to be strongest in the group. Maybe not in endurance, but in deftness.
This ability of his does not very bright in current state of affairs, but once people are equipped with B.F.M. devices that allow the use of this resource, he can seize an advantage.
It must be noted, as has been noted before, that It is not only the people going through the reinforcement camps that are training in crafting.

The city has a quite a few entrances to it. And if you follow the roads that lead out, in tandem with contracts to guide them, you will find similar institutions.
Once people complete whatever goals are expected of them, they can use their training so far as proof of their capabilities.
They may not be as adept at surviving or fighting, but they’ll certainly be capable of crafting, foraging for crafting materials and even know how to build temporary outposts.
The expansion outside of the Pebble in the river requires more than just combat ability. It requires a line of logistics, a degree of self sufficiency and other miscellaneous factors.
One major factor required for an outpost to become a settlement is to set up certain facilities, mainly crafting facilities.
This is done because Every death comes with a penalty that forces people to abstain from exploration or combat.
It is expected of people to train their crafting once they die. Because through crafting will they become stronger.
Of course there are other ways to become strong, but this is the single most powerful thing in the world of Perpetuity. The B.F.M. The Brute Force Method.
Perpetuity, being a virtual world, there is no need for superhuman strength. This can all be implemented through game logic.
Overwhelming power does not require overwhelming physical strength. As far as the world’s internal system is concerned, all a person needs is an item with high attack damage.
Similar to physical strength, physical health is irrelevant. With overpowering defensive items, a person’s defence can become impenetrable to those with low attack power.
Impenetrable in the terms that the damage is reduced to negligible numbers, for example from a thousand to the low tens. It might still deal damage, but will require attacking ten times to equal the original assumed one thousand damage.
Neither of these things require the robust strength that Sorp possess. But the reflexes, the fast reaction speed, the combat experience, these things all matter.
While B.F.M. items cannot rely on physical strength, there are B.F.M’s in the form of weapons and they do require speed. Against powerful opponents, even battle technique is important.
It is possible to dodge, block and deflect attacks as a form of defence. Similarly it is possible to stagger opponent that try exactly this, if they fail to do it well.
This all does not mean that Sorp’s large stature does not give him an advantage, it does. Just not when two B.F.M. weapons meet head on.
If both opponents drain themselves of B.F.M. endurance, physical strength will become king. Whether this will be a common situation is to be seen and hard to predict.
One of the negative effects of draining ones B.F.M. is something alike to losing one's senses. Vision blurry, hearing muddled.
It is actually just the vision and hearing that become significantly impaired, any other senses are difficult to perceive. For example touching or smelling, these are reduced but is not noticeable.
A veteran B.F.M. user should know not to reach such low B.F.M. levels. It is instead better to rely somewhat on one's physical prowess to dodge or retreat to recover.
It is also possible to take up normal weapons at the end of such a fight. While the damage cannot compare to B.F.M. weapons, it can prove useful.
As defence depends on B.F.M. equipment, if the user is forced to rely on this B.F.M. equipment to defend against normal attacks, their B.F.M. endurance will be drained.
This happens until the user is no longer capable of supplying B.F.M. energy to their equipment and can then be killed outright by normal weapons.
Whether such situations will be rare or common place, is yet to be seen. And if it does become common place, it will be a great advantage to those physically gifted or trained.
It doesn’t take much time to become good at something, even natural talent or gifts can make you good from an early start.
But to become great, to become excellent, to become a master. This requires time, more time and then more time. Time not used on practicing the dominant Brute Force Method.
Sorp can be said to be good at fighting. His ability with myriad weapons can be said to be good. But his B.F.M. endurance or manipulation can’t be said to be good.
Not even Dart can be considered good when it comes to B.F.M. manipulation, even though he shows talent for it. Controlling a new apandage isn’t this easy.
The tools people train with in these early stages do not have many functions. They do require some very elementary understanding of the B.F.M.
To put this into words, if they were an infant child, they are attempting to move their fingers. Not trying to grip something, just move their fingers.
Their fingers are weak and they don’t really understand what they are doing, they rely almost entirely on their instincts in doing this. Instincts that have faded away.
This is a part of why very young children have an easier time to adapt to the Brute Force Method. It is easier adapt to something at an early stage when neuroplasticity is high.
Part of the Perpetual Power’s scheme to improve people’s B.F.M. control is to introduce neuroplasticity to people. This can lead to hallucinations, but it is within acceptable risks.
Perpetual Power does not need to abide by moral conduct. This is because they can dictate what is and what isn’t right. They can break and bend laws to their will.
Not only this, they are the highest power, meaning they would have to condemn themselves and sentence themselves. This is unlikely to happen.
It is this overwhelming power that Perpetual Power possess that influenced Perpetuity. As it is their creation, they do as they see fit.
This includes making the world Perpetuity for all intents and purposes, lawless. The pain and pleasure people experience is very real.
It is Perpetual Power’s belief that this method of giving and taking, are required to control people. This can be subtle and it can be blatant.
It is subtle when they need to reach as many people as possible over a long period of time and it is blatant when immediate results are required.

Mari was happily whisking up some butterscotch slice when our story suddenly whisks her into another world. You'd think it'd be the beginning of another classic Isekai adventure, but it soon becomes clear that things won't be so easy...Her nerdy-teenage-genius summoner has trapped her in his room, no one speaks English, and Mari's gut is NOT prepared for a whole new world of bacteria. Can Mari overcome the travel diarrhea, learn a whole new language and escape before she develops Stockholm syndrome? Most of all, can she learn to flourish in a world so different, yet so similar to her own? ****** Author note: This story is written in response to all the unrealistic, plot-armour Isekais out there. I believe that adventures are more fun when there are unexpected surprises and challenges to be had. That said, this is my virgin voyage into writing an ongoing fiction, so please take care of me @[email protected] Constructive critisms, suggestions and typos in the comments would be most appreciated! Respectfully, Mhm
