《Virtual reality: Sorp》Chapter twenty one: Drudgery.

Three weeks into the training, every last one of the guys has a full grasp on the theoretical knowledge for surviving.
Majority of the time people are practicing how to utilize their knowledge. This comes down to talent, time spent practicing and passion for the work.
In some areas, people excel. In others they fall behind. But with a foundation of knowledge to work with, everything becomes smooth.
It still requires some repetition to properly instill the knowledge. While once over the material is fast and efficient, it still takes a few rounds to establish a strong foundation.
With three weeks on their back. The guys and Daisy have adjusted to the life in the Third wave reinforcement camp. Everyone more people enter the camp.
Daisy as skyrocketed in popularity. Even with the tasks she does are mundane, she is still a beautiful woman. Adding to that, she is still considers one of the leaders in progress.
In the real world, one week is about to pass since the release of Perpetual Power’s Perpetuity. That is six weeks in Perpetuity’s time. Diluted by a factor of six.
The time dilution makes watchings content made by People in perpetuity difficult. For one, any live broadcast is impossible. The speed would too fast to keep up with.
To compensate for this expected consequence, Perpetual Power has created A.I. editor system that, through various parameters, cuts out majority of dead content.
This program can’t be called perfect, but it does make it possible for anyone to jump into the scene. Which is the goal, more accessibility.
Perpetual Power also promotes through thousands of celebrities. Like Sorp. Sorp has a standing offer to begin creating content related to Perpetuity.
The problem was that he was only promised he’d be advertised. This didn’t register with Sorp and the guys.
An outsider can easily see this an opportunity to increase the value of the Sorp brand. The vicious fighter.
But being inexperienced, they do not see the value of investing into themselves. And fame is something Sorp doesn’t want.
Ret and Pal are afraid of becoming notorious. Kom and jarem might welcome it. Dart is afraid of the publicity. In the end, none of them broadcast anything.
Sorp did however agree to some terms. Any footage of Sorp can be directly ‘bought’ by Perpetual Power. This is a clause included into the agreement he signed for the virtual machine.
Not being a lawyer, Sorp never even considered these things. While Dart and Kom read over the contract, their abilities are limited.
Sorp still has the possibility of getting out of this contract by simply buying the device. There are also outstanding offers to do more promotional work.
While that promotional work doesn't directly affect the contract, it a means to mitigate the cost of buying another device.
This all sounded restricted and underhanded. But in a world where food and living quarters are given out free. Restrictions come all to often.
The poor were still poor. Their nutrition, maybe not lacking, but it was unappetizing. While the housing was adequate, the neighbor didn’t have to be.
The the advancement of technology, it became possible to produce more food, and the only ones to labour were the machines.
In theory, this should be a state of utopia. But there is always something to fight for. There are still limited resources.
What people understood was even with cameras on every corner, there was no way to filter through all this continuous data. Storing it was even less feasible.

Places like the Ring are not uncommon, over seventy percent of the entire population live in crime ridden zones.
Too many people, too much data, not enough processing power to monitor it all. This was how things were.
One might think, shouldn’t it be the same in the virtual world? It might seem that way to the layman, but virtual reality data is controlled.
It is controlled in every sense. They created the means that crates all data inside the virtual world. They also know how to filter through it with great efficiency.
It's not an exaggeration to say, that to a degree, every living person could be monitored simultaneously.
This is monitoring in the sense, they can actually set up parameters to detect any illegal action, if there are any.
Not only do they do this, but they gather specific information from every user in Perpetuity. This information used in research purposes, nefarious or not. This is a truth.
One of the most important research conducted, is the development of the human brain, while using a B.F.M.
The technology is still to young to predict any long term effects. It can’t be said to be safe or dangerous. There just isn’t enough data to work with.
A year in the virtual would should give them more reliable data than they ever had before. Two years doubles that. This can be seen as research data worth six years instead of just two.
Perpetual Power did not have to lie to people about these things. People accepted them all. In actual fact, Perpetual Power had more power than this.
Every person inside Perpetuity has nanomachines coursing through their veins. There is nothing stopping Perpetual Power from using them to kill billions.
But this was the world they lived in. Lives aren’t worth anything, they were instead an continuous sink on the economy.
A stark fraction of a fraction of the population actually brought more wealth into than it they took from it. This only grew as time went on.
Perpetuity is a solution of sorts. If things go as expected, birth rate will crash. Eventually humanity will be only a shell of its former self.
Of the reasons for this is a lack of resources. Already this can be seen. The technology to better the world is here. But to better the world meant more people.
This lends to a vicious cycle that ends with humanity eating its tail. The solution is technology and more resources.
Even with grand expeditions to outer space, fishing in meteors, moons or planets it is still unstainable. This is why there is a Perpetual Power. Why there is a Perpetuity.
According to Perpetual Power’s calculation, they only need thirty percent of the population to stop procreating.
With that they can complete plans to set up space stations, working as a middle man between them and other planets. Only then will resources no longer be a problem.
With that, the Earth can be salvaged without genocide or mass starvation. Anything else is irrelevant, even immoral experimentation.
Sorp and his friends wouldn't understand any of these things. But this was the reason why they had this new lease on life.
Although Sorp didn’t care for the fame he gained, it was still there. And his fans knew he was in Perpetuity. What’s more they now know where he is.
With the weeks of broadcasting Daisy performed, she grew more popular. With popularity, people that knew who Sorp was came in.

While his face and voice as blurred. His massive figure stood out. It was still speculation, but couldn’t they just ask Daisy?
Her response was she couldn’t say. But that was just as good as conforming it. Clearly Sorp was right there in the camp.
The guys knew Daisy was broadcasting since day one of the camp. They would also check in on her live broadcast. They would see her views chat.
When Dart informed Sorp about this development, Sorp shrugged. He didn’t care. Most of his time was spent on training. He saw purpose and enjoyment it.
Sorp always acted on his wants and desires. Sometimes he was swayed by his brothers, this was also part of his wants and desires.
If Sorp was his own person, the his brothers were a part of him. In action, he proved this time and time again.
Right now, things were quiet. Dart was especially busy trying to study one profession after another.
Pal, Kom and jarem went through the motions. Neither bored or entertained. They never had this kind of discipline. Someone pushing them.
Ret didn’t need this either. He found the beasts to be kindred spirits. He himself had no idea why he felt so strongly.
Ret was not alone in training beasts. Every few days a new person or two would join the program. They lived with the beasts, fed them, groomed them and trained them.
These beasts were all docile. Bread due to their calm nature. But these skills could also be used to tame wild beasts. A valued ability to have.
Daisy was excelling on her own. While she was still lacking when compared to Din, she was second in all other aspects.
Only in practicing making survival related items did she defeat him, only to lose to Dart. These are still remarkable achievements.
The training in the Third wave reinforcement can be seen in two parts. One a threshold to endurance. Two practical application of survival studies.
Sorp has exceeded the endurance threshold. He managed this by the first week. This wasn’t because he had talent for it. He practiced every moment he was awake.
Unlike Kom, Jarem and Pal. Sorp never left to relax. Sorp found himself in his training. Even the studying, though he did not have as much passion for it.
Similarly the others didn’t hate this type of discipline. It appeared contrary to their previous behaviour. And it was.
They still lacked passion for it, but they didn’t reject it. In this way they spent their free time messing about instead of mimicking Sorp and practicing.
Then there was Ret. He was separated from the others, but not by much more than a short stroll away. But he still didn’t spend too much time with Jarem, Kom and Pal.
His work never ended. He could hand duties to others, yet he rarely did. He also had to train his endurance like the others. He also had to learn miscellaneous survival trivia.
On top of this all, he had to spend time with the beasts. He had to know how their B.F.M.’s worked.
Unlike controlling a normal beasts to travel from point a to point b, he had to control them to react to combative situations.
This was the reason that most cavalry troops will use static B.F.M.’s and most of them time they would use a non B.F.M. weapons until the situation force them to bring their B.F.M’s out.
They did this because most of their mental resources went into controlling the actual beasts. The better the beasts was trained, the less they had to do.
In this way, a beginner will struggle just to not sabotage themselves. And because of this, the contrary result of beast tamers saw more combat training than expected.
They had to not only protect themselves, but also their beasts. A death of a beast was nothing short of devastating. Most would rather recall their beast and let themselves die in their stead.
At least if they died, they only lost some time, their items and some Vcoins. This is often nothing in comparison to a trained and beloved companion.
Out of the multiple types of training, most were put into either general taming, these beasts would be controllable through any B.F.M.
Then there were more specialized tamed beasts. These beasts almost had their own will, they’d listen to voice commands, and would fight even without B.F.M.’s
The latter have obvious advantages. But they are far harder to train. Meaning they are more expensive and often the tamers are attached to them. And the beast to their tamers.
These were the things of things Ret was learning. His goal was now to tame his own wild beast, instead of the low risk, domesticated corses and so on.
After the group achieves the required threshold and an adequate time passes, they will receive contracts. These contracts will test what they have learned so far.
Once this contract is finished. They will be considered graduated. If they fail. They’ll have to reroll into the training camp and wait the entire four to six weeks again.
This window for a contract will soon begin. Within two weeks they’ll have to officially begin their excursion. They’ll have a standard B.F.M. and a non B.F.M. weapon.
Outside a small ration of food, meant to last two days, they’ll have to manage everything else by themselves.
For now, the team is still reaching the required threshold. If, after two weeks they still do not meet the requirements, they can only wait four additional weeks for another contract.
The entire team understands this. Four weeks of training may not seem long, but to them it’s quite the haul. Wanting to proceed to the next checkpoint is understandable.
It is still not possible to see the quantity of ones B.F.M. endurance. This sort of thing will be done in a one or two months.
After two to three months of data accumulation, they believe they’ll have enough information to estimate future growth, the average statistic of individuals.
Following that, they’ll be able to properly quantify, in numbers, how much endurance each individual has in comparison to the rest of the population.
Until then, they are compared to their own base endurance. Meaning from the time they arrived in Perpetuity. These statistics are not worth much by themselves and therefore not shown.
The endurance statistics are used to measure against a person base increase in growth, and allow them to eligible for the promotional contract.
Later this will change to actual hard baselines based on the population as a whole. This will lead to increase in difficulty but also a more adjusted foundation.
