《Witches of the North Book 1: Winter Journey》ch5: Belwhite’s countryside mansion / Ian, iii

Ian finished buttoning up his shirt and draped a small towel around his shoulders to keep his clothes from his wet hair. Another towel, one he’d used just moments ago, lay forgotten on his bedroom floor. Ian didn’t bother picking it up; he didn’t care much for keeping his bedroom here particularly tidy. It didn’t matter anyway.
He dried his hair with a third towel until his curls started sticking up and out again, then went along to soaking up the two locks of hair hanging by his cheeks. When he managed to get most of the water out, he pulled them back into a low ponytail in an attempt to straighten his curls. Then he stopped.
Ian touched the sides of his face and looked at his reflection in a tall mirror on his dressing table.
On the left, close to the ear and in a section that was usually left unseen, there was a long vertical cut crossed by stitch marks. There was an almost identical scar on his right side as well. Both old, both dark and ugly, both equally impossible to heal. Just one more sign of his failures. His father tended to remind him that less and less these days, but Ian had never dared forget it.
Every time he read one of his father’s all too infrequent and all too formal letters, usually informing him of his whereabouts, Ian tried to convince himself that everything had always been for his own good, that his father had his best interest at heart, that Ian was not afraid of him. That maybe his brother and that other brat were indeed better than him, and Ian just had to try harder.
On the other hand, thanks to Miss Winter more so than anyone or anything else, Ian had been made aware of his own abilities some time ago. He had moments where he caught himself thinking that, yes, his shields in particular certainly were not brilliant, but on the other hand, his father didn’t always have to focus on that and ignore the other things that Ian was much more—
A knock on the door cut off his train of thought.
Distractedly, he said, “Enter.”

Shi Yan was a lonely orphan boy. That was only till he met an injured fox hiding under the bushes, whimpering. After much care and concern, the fox soon became his irreplaceable kin. When the situation was just starting to turn colourful, Mistress of the Orphanage found the little fox hiding under Shi Yan's bed. After the little fox-faced relentless torture and abuse, Shi Yan took revenge. The youth stole from the Mistress and ran off. With only the fox in his arm and a small pouch of stolen goods, he never looked back. *Well, I tried... This story is written in my spare time just for fun. It's very experimental so readers; do note. There are major changes in writing style within the series as I keep testing things out. Of course, that does not mean that the story actually deviates from its intended progress. It just means that your reading experience may fluctuate quite often... Anyways, I hope you enjoy this story. :D p.s. not sure if there will be any sex scene in this novel but the boy starts off as 7... so... long time till we get there. May have lollies though! 8 203The overgrown mansion
The main character returns to her deceased recluse uncle's home to get his effects in order. This is the beginning of a lovecraftian story inspired by somebody telling me about the Brombeermonster, a particulary nasty blackberry shrub overtaking her family's abandonned home. A backdrop for a story about eery and unexplained things if I ever heard about one. I will post the two parts I already posted on reddit; more maybe if there is interest from the community.

8 83The Light in Death
Set in a modern city where Jesse Gil narrates his experience running a business capitalizing on his ability to heal any affliction — even death. He's forced to take on a student, Shawn Ellison, a spoiled college dropout who awakens abilities of his own, to prevent him from accidentally killing himself. As a result, Jesse must become more than just a healer. He'll need to master his power over energy: the fuel for life, the soul, and magic. I'm uploading the initial draft of each chapter so people can follow along with the story as I complete the manuscript. I'm hoping to gather interest, and potentially attract an editor. After going back to revise and edit; I will self-publish it.
