《I can cheat? So let's have fun.》Chapter 20: Well. It could be worse.

Emily blinked. That light blinded her. “Welcome Heroes!” She heard a voice calling to them. When her vision returned to normal she saw that they were standing on a big magic circle. There were four mages around and one man in the crown.
“This is a welcoming party?” Tall guy asked. He didn’t look surprised at anything. “Aren’t you too young for a king? Where is your beard?” He asked the man in the crown.
“Eh… My father retired as he already helped two heroes and fought in two wars.” King answered.
“Is this much?” Asian looking boy asked.
“Normally it’s one or none. Many are thinking that the world is coming to its end.” He sighed heavily.
‘Of course they are! Laser gorillas are coming!’ Emily thought to herself. She also noticed that the boy was wearing something like a light leather armour. The taller one was wearing blue robe and she was wearing similar one but white. “So… what now?” She asked.
“Right! Come with me! We will see your statuses.” When he said it, he turned to the exit. Heroes just followed him.

Question marks could be seen above her head. She could understand most of the basic rpg elements as she played a lot of mmos with her brother. Still, there were just basic informations. And what about these skills? And the [Holy Flame] just screams ‘final attack’!
She looked over the boy’s shoulder to peek at his card. It wasn’t hard as he was a half head shorter.

‘EH?! HE IS OLDER?! AND HAS A NORMAL NAME?!’ Shocked expression covered Emily’s face.
“Yours are the same?” Tall guy asked while showing his card to them.

“How does it looks?” King asked royal magician.
Old mage looked in the king’s direction. “These guys are monsters.” He pointed at Emily. “She had the legendary [Holy Flames], the strongest healing magic and light’s attack magic.” His finger wandered to Nick. “This guy is a [Spirit talker] and can use every kind of magic.”
His gaze landed on Jack. “This one seems like a normal warrior but has a soul weapon. After looking at the other two I am afraid to be in the same room when he summons it.”
King’s mind blacked out. “How to summon it?” Jack asked the mage.
“Try saying its name in your mind.” Jack nodded to his words and lifted his hand.
With the red spark the black and red katana appeared in his grip. ‘Did that goddess also thought I am an Asian?’ He turned his head and get closer to the armour by the wall. Without using any strength he moved the sword.

‘Heh?’ The blade passed the armour with no resistance. It fell on the ground cleanly cut.
“Try using the [Analyse] on it.” Nick said with scary face. He already did this. Jack did as he was told.
Realm CutterSoul weapon of Jack Arrow. Sword able to cut through anything.
That was simple and scary at the same time. “This game need some nerfs.” Nick commented.
King then frowned. “How strong that Demon lord must be? What that monster could even be doing right now as we speak?”
******
“So where are we?” Jael asked.
Xiodar made the walls transparent. “On the left you can see the moon. And another one on the right.”
“YOU FLEW IN THE SKY!” Zelenia shouted.
“I told you it is called space.”
“Whatever just send us back!”
*******
“…The f*ck? This world has two moons!” Jack as he was looking at the sky at night.
Nick turned to him. “Well duh. Didn’t you watch any animes about that?”
Boy faced him with annoyed look. “I told you I don’t know the moon-talk.”
They were standing on the castle’s balcony trying to acknowledge what happened today. “Maaan. This is going to suck. Ten years! Can’t we just go there and ask nicely to end the war? That guy is also from Earth.” Nick complained.
“That doesn’t mean he isn’t some psycho.” Emily complained along. “And they want us to fight! And learn magic and swordsmanship in ten years! Don’t they take a lifetime to master?”
“Well I know basics.” Jack dropped the bomb.
They looked at him in awe. “We just mixed up stereotypes.” Nick broke the silence.
“It was a normal sword thought, not a katana…”
“Is there a difference?” Emily asked.
“…” Both guys looked at her like on an idiot.
Girl turned her head away embarrassed. “Nevermind! I didn’t say anything! ...Hey look! A falling star!”
Nick clapped his hands. ”Make that bastard burn in hell.”
“Dude, that’s just a fairy tale.” Jack commented.
“They said that about magic too!” As Nick said it, short boy just stared at him. After a moment, he clapped his hands as well.
******
“GOD DAMNIT! I AM TURNING THE ASHES!” Jael shouted.
Zelenia followed. “WHY THERE IS SO HOT?!”
Xiodar looked at them while waving a chain-made fan to cool himself. The pressure made them stick to the celling but he was sitting on his throne like nothing is happening. “That’s how entering the atmosphere looks like.”
******
The next day.
Heroes were supposed to take a training. Sadly they really can’t learn magic without a spirit. So the only one who received the training was Jack. They made him spare with the knights (not using his soul weapon of course).

The results were… unexpected. “Why are you bulling them?!” Nick shouted his thoughts. Jack easily beat up twenty knights at once. He wasn’t even tired.
King just appeared to see how the Hero was going but it has already ended. “Weren’t there twenty of them?” He asked as he counted eighteen. Jack just pointed at the two broken windows.
“Are you sure you aren’t from some anime’s Earth?” Nick asked.
Jack looked away scratching back of his head. “My mom often rented a money from the shady groups. I am used to groups of armed gangsters attacking me trying to sold my organs.”
‘ ‘ The f*uck? ‘ ‘ Both Heroes were surprised at their friend statement.
“You don’t need that cheat sword!” Nick accused him. “So just give it to meACK!” Emily kicked him.
Then she turned to the cheated boy. “But still. You couldn’t do that back on earth?” She assumed he was just boosted up by a goddess.
“No way!” Then he looked on one of broken windows. “The first floor was my limit.” He didn't mention he was talking about throwing not sword swinging.
******
The next day.
Nick was worried. ‘What I am doing here? That midget will easily kill the Demon lord.’ He hoped that he could become a Hero like in all these stories he read. Sadly when you are good at something then there is always an Asian who will do it better.
“Today we are going to summon your first spirits.” Royal mage’s voice bring Nick back to reality. “Ladies first.” He said while reaching his hand to Emily. She stepped closer into the glowing magic formation on the floor.
Old man made a small cut on girl’s hand. When the blood dropped on the floor, the formation started to getting brighter. “It’s coming!” Mage shouted. The light blinded everyone.
*KWOOO!*
Nick slowly recovered his vision. ‘Is that, no… Impossible! But it surely looks like…’ He thought as he saw the spirit. “It’s a chicken!” Nick shouted as he could clearly see the small spirit.
“Fiery Chicken. Lvl. 1 fire spirit.” Mage said. It was smaller than a normal one and was bright red.
Emily looked at him with red face. “W-why this is a-a…” ”Fast food.” Jack finished for her. Now he felt little hungry.
“Forced spirit contract can be made only with the lvl. 1 spirits. It will go through changes as it grows stronger.” Old man explained.
‘ ‘ ‘ So it is a pokemon? ’ ’ ’ Heroes thought the same thing.
Mage pointed in Jack’s direction. “Now, your turn.” Jack nodded to his words.
Again, when the blood dropped on the floor… “It’s coming!” At these words they lost the vision.
“Great.” Jack broke the silence. “Now it’s a cat.” The little yellow thing just stared at him.
“OH GOD! It’s cute!” Emily ran to pet it.
Old man just looked at it and said. “Wild Lynx lvl. 1 aura spirit.” Then he faced Nick. “Now your turn Mr. Spirit talker.”
Hero just listened to him. “It’s coming!” When mage shouted, the three wondered if it’s part of ceremony to shout it.
Nick rubbed his eyes. He wanted to know what he is going to summon.
Before his eyes appeared… it is… well…”Will-o-wisp lvl.1 raw mana spirit.” What the mage said.
“Well, listen. Now I will teach you how use spirits.” Old man started a lecture. “Spirits can appear and disappear. It will be the first command to teach. Commands are made by sending a mana to the spirit. If you have skill [Spirit talker] you can just use words.”
Nick blinked at his words. ‘Heh? So…’ “You won’t use mana and don’t have to learn incantations. You just need to tell the spirit ’burn the motherf*cer down’ and it will work.” Mage said reading boy’s thoughts from his face.
******
“Hey.”
“Hm?”
“Can we go now?”
“You are asking this every minute! No!” Xiodar said as he watched the float. He was sitting on one of Pendragon’s statues with a chain-made fishing rod. After the splashdown they stuck on the middle of ocean.
“Why!?” Jael was still nagging him.
Xiodar just said for the xth time. “The flying mechanism melted. We have to wait for it to self-repair.”
“But why so long!”
*Ding* The screen appeared in Xiodar’s vision. “Oh! It’s finally working!” Jael almost shouted in happiness. Then he saw the cats on the screen.
“Now when internet is working I can start repairing the other ones.” Demon lord said with a smile. Then he felt the deadly stare on his back. “Oh come on. It’s only a sea. It could be worse.”
“How?”
“Emmm…” Xiodar thought for a while. “We could be eaten by a whale!”
“There’s no whales that can eat a whole castle!” Jael protested.
*WHHHOOOSSSHHH* The moment he finished the giant opened jaw appeared in front of them. *CHOMP* The castle disappeared from the surface.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

But what happens when Sage shows up at her doorsteps in the middle of the night, bruised and bloody?***"Sage?" whispered Solace in utter shock. He smirked at her as he leaned against the doorframe, looking her up and down from her blue penguin pajamas to her oversized t-shirt until he met her eyes. She felt a rush of emotions when she heard his voice after six months. It was the same: deep, unbothered, and familiar. "Solace Laurent, I need your help."
