《Ehror, The Ascent》Chapter 8

They eventually arrived at the wooden gates, with helmeted guards in leather and steel armour. Sevyn’s novice level senses on their Ehror led her to believe that these people were incredibly weak, she really could not understand how it was possible for adults to have so little Ehror. As the guards noticed their approach they looked far more alert and took aggressive stances, or the stances would have looked aggressive if it was not for the fact that they also appeared to be on the verge of pissing themselves. Sevyn could not help but remember a kitten that wandered around the facility just like with the guards it had very little Ehror. The people in front of her had far more than the kitten but the difference between them to her was negligible. In fact if it wasn’t for their physical appearance, to her who has only ever been around either the Novas or their superiors in the facility they would not have registered as beyond an average animal. They calmed down somewhat when they finally noticed Raavar in the group. They dumped the wolf body on the ground near the gate and Raavar approached the guards.
“Raavar.” One of them said, both bowing slightly. They were still on high alert judging by the how they each had a hand gripping the sword on their hips.
Sevyn did not like the look on their faces. Defiant. They had realised in their ventures within this jungle that creatures with such a low level of took care to steer clear of their paths. Yet those in front of her barely any stronger than said creatures in the wild dared to try to stand up to her. She felt like it was a challenge one that she had to answer so as not to look as weak as these pathetic men in front of her. Her eyes flashed with a predatory light as her Ehror was released unconsciously, the aura crashed against the guard forcing them back and to the ground. Raavar was stunned at the event before he released his hold on his own Ehror defensively. His usually friendly demeanour was gone and replaced with a serious and dangerous expression. The guards were able to stand again, Raavar’s aura countering the pressure she put on them. The breath they did not know was stored in their lungs released.

“Sevyn…stop.” His voice was unyielding, displaying the strength that everyone knew he had.
She wasn’t listening, the intensity of her aura only rose against his. It was then that Raavar realised, he may have been able to beat her in a fight but the amount of raw Ehror she could bring to bear was staggering. The guards stepped back as the air and ground shook under the forces of the two energies being released against each other. A small crater was being formed between them but to the disbelief of the guards Raavar was the one being pushed back slightly. Raavar started reaching to his bow, this was getting dangerous.
That was until Gael put a hand on her shoulder. Gael as always could understand what Sevyn felt in situations like this he was second only to Akuuna in this regard. Gael could understand the struggle that Sevyn had with relating to others she perceived as ‘below’ her. This was not deliberately condescending, Sevyn’s very nature was that of a creature that perceived the world through individual power. All the Novas were similar in this sense, however Sevyn and Hector in particular, he noticed took this to another level. The rest of the Novas in the facility had essentially taken sides within the first year of their release from containment. Hector’s side, he took anyone he perceived as useful, those he deemed powerful or with abilities that he wanted, and he was obvious about it. Sevyn had never been as bold not for lack of confidence. It was the opposite she wanted people to come to her and she would do the selecting, and that was exactly what happened. Multiple others had wanted to join her side, but she had declined them. The only one she had gone out of her way to recruit was Angelo. This also meant that her standards were high leading to only the three boys being her companions. There had been others, but the experimentation had led to their demise.
However, this method also had somewhat of a downside for those she selected. Hector had recruited far more than the fourteen he had, but people had disappointed him and were promptly removed from the group. Sevyn had never thrown anyone away but in that it also meant that those she selected were considered ‘hers’ in every sense of the word, she was highly possessive. He had been sure that only Akuuna could part without a proper explanation without incurring her wrath due to how well they knew each other. Gael also knew that neither he nor Angelo had ever though of leaving her company, not just yet. Their reason for following Sevyn was almost fanatical and it was hard to explain why even to himself. Nevertheless, while he could understand her, he also tried to guide her. He saw himself as a person of good judgement and Sevyn took his ideas seriously.

Thus, under his touch her raging aura calmed. Sevyn herself was confused, ever since she had left the facility, she had been more volatile. The new sights, the growth in her power and lack of knowledge of the world combined making her emotions rage out of control.
“I…apologize for that.” She could barely get the words out.
“Tha-that’s okay.” Raavar was confused, what was the relationship between her and the platinum haired boy? And why did she even go mad in the first place, the guards were rightfully on alert with how the three unknown people were radiating Ehror like massive bonfires, that in itself looked like an attack.
“Sorry about that, these three are in a bit of a unique situation.” He explained as he turned to the guards without actually giving an explanation.
The guards relaxed slightly, they trusted Raavar he was known as the village’s Hero after all. Raavar, the lightning arrow, a wanderer who went out of his way to save the small village from the brink of destruction against a stampede of beasts.
“Let us get in, I promise that there wouldn’t be trouble.” The guards nodded almost too quickly, if Raavar couldn’t handle the situation then they were in trouble. They were glad he bothered asking, he could have ignored them and invited his guests in anyway, but he was a kind soul and treated everyone as an equal.
A heavy knock on the gate and it was pulled open from the inside. As Raavar walked in with his guests, Sevyn took the surroundings in. A lot of small buildings and huts dotted around the small village. The buildings looked a tad fragile, being made from wood and hay. Children of various ages screamed and ran around in a cacophony of noise. Sevyn couldn’t wrap her head around what they were doing. Adults walked around going about their business and occasionally having to dodge out of the way of children. But just like with the guards, the one word that came to Sevyn was weakness. Everything here looked far too fragile, the Ehror she could sense was far too low in either amount or in purity and quality. It wasn’t like with the Director where she could tell that despite holding it in there was far more to him. She didn’t get it. Were these people defective? She glanced to Gael and Angelo. Angelo looked like he was more interested in joining the other kids than anything else. But Gael met her eyes and she could tell that he understood.
They followed Raavar through the centre of the village, dragging the wolf body along with them, garnering some looks from the villagers. Raavar approached a particularly large building stopping in front of it. Sevyn could sense one person in side with Ehror that she felt was normal if not on the lower end of said normal. He knocked on the double door and with a grunt a woman pushed one door open slightly, glancing out to look over the group. She had long blonde hair and deep blue eyes that once could find themselves lost in. Her expression became one of recognition upon seeing Raavar amongst the group before she opened the door widely.
“Raavar.” She said in greeting.
“Hey Ariel, can you call the chief for us?” He replied, in a friendly tone.
“Sure thing, but first come in and have a seat.”
They walked into a large room with a fireplace in the centre of the wall, there were plenty of sits and sofas.
“This is the village hall.” Raavar explained helpfully as they all took a sit. Sevyn’s group all took one red sofa.
“You sure, have an interesting group with you today.”
“Met them on my hunting trip, they are a bit of a special case so your’s and the chiefs help would be appreciated.”
“You, asking me for help?” She snorted. “Well, I sure do not want to miss this.”
The group watched on as Ariel went up the stairs.
