《Lucky SP》Chapter 19 - Vanguard

Mr. Peter excited walked out of Lucky's holding cell and hurried into his laboratory nearby. He placed a sample of Lucky's blood on a glass slide under a microscope and stored the rest in a temperature controlled shelf rack. "Amazing." he muttered to himself. He watched Lucky's blood cells under the microscope move around. Lucky's cell vitality alone was too strange. The cells would shift from highly active to a nearly dead state. Mr. Peter picked up Lucky's autopsy report from the morgue and read over it. "His cause of death was mentioned as heart attack. But the organization records noted he was transferred to Dr. Ray for further study due to his genes undergoing genetic breakdown. " He muttered to himself. "An estimate of 4 liters of Alpha-genetic awakener were absorbed through his skin?! Gene break down is expected." He put down the report and placed a separate slide of normal human blood cells, under the microscope next to Lucky's. The comparison was obvious. The normal blood did not have the vitality deviations. "It must be the genetic stabilizer solution reacting in tandem with the broken down genes." Mr. Peter took a pen and began writing some of his thoughts down. Of course, it was nearly impossible for a mere genetic stabilizer solution to bring about a change to this degree in the human body. Genetic Stabilizer solution 958 had gone through many stages of development. It was a solution composed of engineered enzymes, which would facilitate unbound DNA blocks to rebind near the damage site. It was designed to be taken immediately after a genetic breakdown occurred. Otherwise, if the wait was too long the DNA might no longer be considered a humans. And there were an unimaginable amount of genetic diseases which are millions of times more probably to occur during restructure. This subject "Lucky" truly deserved his name. Mr. Peter couldn't remember when the last time he had been so excited and happy. He was an industry renowned scientist, genius in genetics, the most important geneticist in Vanguard! But none of these titles ever meant anything to him. Evolution! The most perfect human evolution was his dream alongside his boss, Carlos Montero. He could only feel satisfied when he was making progress towards this goal. And now this 'Lucky S.P' specimen was unexpectedly captured from a group a kids... This body was a treasure trove for a geneticist! Mr. Peter was routinely following experiment procedure with analysis and documentation. He had an excited smile plastered on his face the entire time. 'When I heard Oscar was sent after some Special Alpha human kids, I never would have expected to find such a treasure. Such a variant... this is no longer the realm of a special alpha!' Vanguard had developed the Alpha gene solutions after studying for many years. It was founded by Carlos when he chanced upon a ruin in Mexico in ancient writing. It talked about powerful spirit entities who were worshiped. Human sacrifice was common to appease these spirits and satisfy their hunger. 'Of course, all the talk about ghosts or entities is just hogwash.' Mr. Peter thought to himself. In those writings, some humans were called champions. They were blessed by the entities and awakened strength, speed, or long health. How these champions obtained their power is open to doubt. However, the truth is evident. Carlos found the remains of one of those champions. It was well preserved and had been mummified. Ever since then, Vanguard had been formed! The newly formed organization was unified under one man, Carlos Montero. He was a well connected and famous explorer. Upon mentioning his discovery to his network, he immediately received support from world powers and businesses. They were especially interested in human evolution's pursuit of a longer life span. After receiving massive funding, Vanguard immediately funneled resources to further excavate the ruins. The result was the identification of more than 31 champion's salvageable remains. Along with the follow up research, showing 3 distinct 'powers' of the champions. From there, Vanguard has always climbed higher and higher. Mr. Peter Gonzales had been a significant part in the research of the alpha gene solution from the mummified champion's cell structure. He developed three distinct awakener solutions which aroused a new era. The Alpha human era. Mr. Peter finished organizing the data and recording his results methodically. He left the room and walked towards the executive lounge in this HQ. "It really isn't easy. But this shouldn't be an issue anymore." He muttered as he smiled again unconsciously. Despite his and Vanguard's best efforts, creating an awakener which could combine each of the mummified champion's powers was severely problematic. A human body cannot support much change in its base architecture. Only one of the three champion powers can be contained within a single human body. The Alpha gene awakener makes changes to a single chromosome in the human body. It can only change in a single direction. If someone were to try and add all three changes to the same chromosome, it is impossible! It is like working to bend a compass which points north, to point north, west, and east at the same time. To simplify things, Vanguard classified all alpha humans as: Speed type, Strength type, Vitality type, and Special Type. Special types, specifically has a broad range that covers all non-champion based mutations which occur randomly. Their powers do not come from the single chromosome mutation normal Alphas have. However, with Lucky's weird characteristics of cell inactivity and revival. Is just too strange. It may be possible to force a speed type, strength type, and vitality type to cooperate. "Ha Hahaha haha. Finally!" Mr. Peter laughed to himself quietly. He unlatched the door and appeared in the executive lounge. A small bar was in the corner. Low jazzy music was playing and the room was black, white, and red. Eccentric design patterns were on the carpet and ceiling. Stars, shapes, and animals were outlined parallel to each other. A large fish tank was filled with exotic life. Some high tech plasma tv screens were lining the walls in front of a large leather couch and chairs. A fireplace was smoldering next to the bar. A tall man with black hair and dark brown eyes wore an expensive leather black suit made of jaguar skin. It looked like a normal suit, but if you look closely you can see the small black hairs visible. The man had a scar over the corner of his lip. He looked over at Mr. Peter when he entered. Mr. Peter reigned in his eagerness and reported what was needed. "Chief Carlos, I have prepared my report. "

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
