This must be what they call light at the end of a tunnel. It’s almost what I thought it would be. Less of a tunnel, more of a well, though. Yes, just like lying at the bottom of a well, staring at a sky above your head.
It was calm indeed.
“What are you doing?”
“Nothing?”
All of a sudden I heard two dry voices echo through nothingness.
“It is Ogbunabali’s duty to help the souls pass on. Are you Ogbunabali?”
“Of course I am. I am Ogbunabali. I am definitely not Ekwensu.”
“I know it is you already, Ekwensu.”
“How?”
“Because I am Ogbunabali.”
“Is that so.”
For an eternal rest it sure was noisy. Engulfed by light, I heard the two of them arguing. As if in monotone, their voices were emotionless and distant.
“Why did you bring this one here?” the one called Ogbunabali asked.
“It was his time to pass on as this one died of old age,” Ekwensu replied.
“Isn’t he just twenty years old?”
“... It was his lowkey dream to die of natural causes.”
“There’s nothing natural about dying at twenty!”
“So you’re saying it wasn’t his time, Ogbunabali?”
“Wasn’t that the female next to him?”
“That is a shame.”
“Are you going to rectify?”
“Then I will grant him a god-like ability and send him to another world to become a hero loved by everyone,” Ekwensu responded. “Same as I do for the others.”
“There are others?”
“... No others. This is the first. I am Ekwensu.”
All things considered, they were talking about me, weren’t they? More than that, it was the old hag that was supposed to pass on. Guess it was just my luck.

I couldn’t really see, not to mention speak. All I could do was listen.
“There is no need. There is still time,” Ogbunabali returned. “He was out of his body for only twenty minutes. You can still send him back.”
“Twenty minutes. Won’t there be brain damage?”
“A little brain damage never hurt anyone.”
Oi oi! Wait! What do you mean brain damage? Wasn’t I dead already?
And what’s with that monotone?! Did they even care what would happen to me? I’m here because of you in the first place!
“Then send him back,” Ogbunabali concluded.
“Should I give him an extraordinary ability?”
“No ability required.”
“No ability required,” Ekwensu acknowledged.
As I felt myself being spirited once again and the light that was surrounding me faded, I couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
Guess I’m going back after all.

The Abyssal Dungeon
The world of Vol, a huge, bountiful plane where the only constant is life, in its many, many forms. One such form is a dungeon core, a peculiar little gemstone, and the focus of our attention. Watch as this otherwise unremarkable gem awakens in one of the most resplendant places in Vol, an aptly named Mana Reef, and how it turns its simple hole in the ocean floor into something truly unique, all while the rest of the world is forced to deal with its growth. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is my first venture into writing for fun, and I'm hoping to keep this running until I run out of juice. With that said, I very much enjoy dungeon core novels, and wanted to do one a bit outside the norm. Hope you enjoy! I have won wars with other gods and as brief they were, they took thousands of years. Time has become meaningless to me and the only proof of it are the deaths of my servants. I have created lives, magic and gods. I have seen civilisations die and Houses collapse. I once used to want to return through the way back to earth. Pure foolishness, as foolish as a sane Dark God would be. I have wronged many. Once I gave our planet magic and they brought me hate. Another time I save one and had to kill another. I nearly destroyed a whole people in my rage once. I want to stop this, but every time my little lights are there. They seem so satisfied that I cannot help but think I have done well. Every time they mention my House, they bless its gods. My House has always been there for them, even against the others. When I then think of them without us, i can only think of death and ruin. That will never happen, not with me here.

An Account of Humanity
It has been 50 years since humanity has made its mark on the galaxy. Before that, humans were a simple species, living in isolation in their own little part of the galaxy. But times have changed, and so have the views of the humans that have now spread across the stars. Some see them as challengers of their galactic dominion, others look at them with eyes of envy and reluctant gratitude, and others find them merely interesting. Regardless of their opinions, the one thing that they can all agree on is that they are here to stay. Perhaps, by chronicling the effect these humans have had upon the galaxy can they figure out the mysteries of humanity themselves. These are their accounts.
