《Reborn: Last Chance to Ascend》59. Unexpected visitors, part 1

"Kiii" rats squealed and ran to hide as the rainbow coloured portal opened in the middle of the dirty alley. I slowly walked out of the portal and sniffed before a disgusted expression crept onto my face.
'Pchh, it smells like rotten food combined with shit.'
I quickly walked out in the direction of a bustling street. As I kept getting closer smell slowly changed to that of freshly cooked food. The dark and damp valley was quickly replaced by the street crowded with people walking around.
"Fresh bukogas for sale! Best prices and freshness guaranteed!" tradesmen from stalls surrounding the street kept shouting, trying to sell their wares.
'It was only around the day from when fights were happening all around the city, and people had already returned back to their everyday lives. People in this world are much tougher than these back on the earth' I couldn't help but admire local people. 'Well, let's take a day off and learn a little bit about the city I rule.'
With a steady step, I walked directly into a crowd. My gaze immediately fell upon a signboard with a mug with foam overflowing on top. Doors were wide open, with merry voices coming from the inside.
The room was filled with a bunch of tables. People sat behind some of them while drinking in their respective groups.
I quickly found an empty table and sat down.
'Is there some kind of menu?' I wondered before a fat woman walked toward me and asked, "What do you want?"
"Ehmm, some good alcohol?"
The woman walked away while mumbling something about youngsters.
'Wait a second. What am I even doing here? It sounds kinda boring to just drink... and I don't really want to socialise with a bunch of peasant drunkards.'
Suddenly I caught something interesting from a nearby table, "I heard that the lord of this city is a sexy evil witch. Do you know what it means?"

I immediately looked in that direction. There were two young boys and one girl, probably in their sixteens wearing plain traveller cloth.
"No... but I can feel where are your thoughts heading, and I don't like it..." A fat boy with short brown hair answered his black haired skinny friend.
My eye was dimly shining in the expectation, 'Are they planning my assassination?... Wait, I already saw them somewhere. But where?'
Black haired boy's eye quickly dilated as he emotionally waved his hands, "As an evil female character, she will change her heart after meeting me, turning towards good while becoming my wife!"
I was so shocked that I cou}pt even react.
His female companion, with good looking slim waist and long blond hair that was flowing like a waterfall of gold down her back looked at the black haired boy with disgust.
In the meantime, his brown-haired friend blurted out loudly, causing a few drunkards to turn in their direction, "Don't be an idiot and don't go causing trouble."
My shock was soon by the urge to go and punch that punk, but I instead clenched my fists, suppressing that urge, 'Who are these clowns?'.
"Here is your drink, miss." My attention was brought away when the server woman brought me a glass filled with red liquid. I threw a silver coin at her, not knowing if it was enough or too much. The woman's face immediately turned into a grin as she slightly bowed before leaving.
I took a sip from the drink and looked again at the weird group.
"What trouble you are talking about? We are main protagonists. Everything will work out no matter how dumb a decision we make." The black haired man shouted, causing me to raise an eyebrow at his arrogance.
More and more people started to look at them. The blonde girl stood up and slapped the black haired boy leaving a red handprint on his face, "Be quiet, you moron! You are making us a centre of attention."

"Hahaha," drunken patrons in the tavern started to laugh, and the black haired boy quieted down while rubbing the red handprint on his face.
'Such idiots. I can't even get angry at them...'
I took another sip from my glass and returned back to observing them with my superhuman senses.
The brown-haired boy spoke, "Both of you calm down. We are here to gather experience in the rare demonic dungeon, not to fight some small time third-rated villains. We have greater evils to defeat."
Red and purple energy started to flash in my eyes, and the air filled with invisible tension, causing some of the drunkards to turn pale.
"Kachaa!" the glass in my hand shattered as I tightened my grip, spilling its content all over the table.
'Me and small time third-rated villain? This is the first time someone has called me in such a degrading way. I am not even evil!'
All three of them looked directly at me.
"Wow, what a coincidence... I bet it is her, and she was in this room the whole time. Tell me, do you still believe that this isn't part of the plot?" Black haired boy taunted his companions. Making me even angrier with his carefree attitude.
I immediately used [Analyze] on them, but it was blocked as always.
Then it hit me, 'What am I doing? Am I going to beat some kids for one insult? That would be a little bit over the top. Yes, I will let it be. In that way, I will at least prove to everyone that I am a reasonable person. Also, it is a bad idea to fight in my weakened state, especially against someone with unknown capabilities, and I doubt that they are ordinary as they blocked my [Analize]. There would also be a problem of creating bad public opinion by randomly creating conflicts.'
I immediately stood up and walked towards the exit while being watched by every pair of eyes in the room, but at the door, I stopped and looked at the three idiots, "You are lucky. I will let your slanders go this time."
As I exited, cold evening air finally cooled down my head, but instead of walking away, I turned translucent and jumped on the tavern's roof. The trio piqued my interest, so I decided to watch them.
Time quickly passed as I kept sitting on the roof, waiting for them to come out. That gave me a lot of time to think about their unusual behaviour and speech. One thing especially stuck in my mind, 'Was it really a coincidence that I randomly met such suspicious individuals or is really part of some plot as the stupid black-hair said...'
Another hour passed, and the sky had already turned dark. I was kicking my legs in the air as I sat on the edge of the roof with a bored expression on my face until I realised something horrifying, 'Please don't tell me that they are accommodated in that tavern and that I am waiting here like an idiot... Well, they must have a room somewhere.'
I started to walk around the roof, trying to locate their voices.
"Crack!" cracking sound came from under my legs. Before I could react hole formed in the roof and dropped into it together with pieces of the roof.
"What the hell?" came a familiar voice of the black haired boy as the roof on his attic room cracked, and I fell through it.
'What the hell? Now I am sure that someone is messing with me as there is such a no chance that this would happen,

Cheaters Always Win
Chester Everheart knew that life wasn't fair. Some were born in situations where it was almost impossible to succeed, whereas others were born with a silver spoon with everything at their disposal. A scant few were dropped into another world, filled with monsters and magic and forced to fend for themselves. The latter was a rare, somewhat ridiculous trope; but it happened to him anyway. Despite this he followed a motto that applied regardless of the dimension he was in. Playing fair is for suckers, and cheaters always win. Cheaters Always Win is a comedy-adventure that I've had churning in my head for a couple years now. I'd like to think it still has the charm that most LitRPGs have while also being unique in its own way. Every arc of the story will subsequently have a 'Level Complete' chapter that details all the stats, levels, equipment, etc. gained by the main cast of characters.
