《Reborn: Last Chance to Ascend》47. Beasts!

I turned in the direction of the growl. My mount immediately fell agape after I spotted an unknown beast. It was four meters tall bipedal beast with a bulky figure covered in white fur. Its arms bulging with muscles were disproportionate to the rest of the body. Two bull-like horns decorated both sides of its head. Behind it was a twirling furless tail covered in bone blades. Three of its eyes were glowing in dim blue light. But the weirdest was its aura that kept flickering.
'What is this thing? It looks like a weird mutation of a gorilla... Is this result of some weird case of crossbreeding?'
I used [Analyze] on it, and it surprisingly worked, at least partially...

'Its MP is low, so it looks it will be fighting with its strong looking body. And that HP is ridiculous... It is more than double as big as my... Wait a second. It is more ridiculous that this giant thing has only a little more than double my HP. Still, what the hell is that ridiculous name of species? It looks like whoever made the system refused to think even a second about it and typed random thing on their universe controlling god-like keyboard.'
"Grahhh," the beast ran towards me with speed unfitting of its size. I jumped to the side, and the beast ran by me, hitting a massive rock with its horn like a bull. Rock cracked and best shook its head before turning towards me. It grabbed the rock with its bulky hands and threw it toward me.
The rotating stone flew towards me at such speed that it turned into a blur. I blinked out of its trajectory, and my staff appeared in hand. I aimed staff at the beast while dodging another flying rock. A sphere of solar matter started to quickly form at the tip of my staff. I didn't raise my dome as there was no need to care about collateral damage out in the mountains. The sphere reached a size of a melon, and I released it toward a beast. It reacted by throwing a rock to meet my spell. Rock closed a distance towards a bright sphere, but it melted and fell to the ground like a lump of lava before it even collided. Beast jumped upwards with its powerful muscular legs. Sphere hit the ground under the beast creating a blinding flash of heat and light. The ground around an impact zone melted.

"Achhhtretsfd!," the beast let out a horrifying shriek as its fur caught a fire turning it into a living torch. The ugly smell of burning fur and flesh filled the air.
Gravity finally caught to the beast as it fell towards the ground, creating a shockwave that sent me flying down from the nearby cliff. I spread my wings and stabilized myself in the air. I looked towards a best, 'He is big, but such strong shockwaves make no sense... This system is really over the top in some aspects.'. All of its fur had already burned away, and flames extinguished, revealing a gruesome view of burned skin leaking a black puss. I couldn't help to feel like vomiting at its gruesome looks. Then, I noticed that burned skin was already regenerating at a relatively slow speed.
Not giving it any chance to recover, I aimed my staff at it again, releasing a thick magenta coloured beam. Beast tried to dodge to the side, but the only slight movement of my hand was enough to redirect my beam, leaving a trail of molten stone and glass behind. The beam hit the beast in the chest. Extreme heat accompanied by extremely bright light devoured the beast making me avert my gaze. Shrieks were coming out of the blinding light for a few seconds before they stopped.
Ding!

I looked towards the location where was previously a beast. There was only a glassed hole that I drilled with beam, 'It must have really strong resistances that it survived so long in such temperature before disintegrating. What was this? This corruption, it looks...'
My thoughts were interrupted after I spotted more flickering auras approaching my location. I quickly counted nine of them. It didn't take long for me to spot them on the bare rocky mountains. There was no uniformity in them, as a whole group consisted of different species. Greatest in size was another crossbred gorilla. Two others looked like regular wolves, only twice as big. Five of them were ugly looking humanoids with purple skin and black puss leaking out of their eyes. They were equipped with fur clothing and primitive weapons made out of wood, stone and bones. The last member of the group was a regular mountain goat. They were moving in a group of some kind. Then they quickly spread and started to surround me.

'This will be interesting. Such a diverse group will be hard to fight... At least that goat looks harmless.' But I didn't worry as I could always fly away with my wings. Why didn't I do it? Of course, for an XP. It was hard to refuse a free XP when they literally came to me.
Using my range advantage, I held up my staff, and two magenta star-like orbs manifested at its tip and started to grow. Beasts increased their speed and rushed towards me. Gorilla stopped to grab a boulder lying on the ground and threw it toward me. Not interrupting my casting, I let rock hit my barrier. Rock hit it and shattered into smaller stones. In the meantime, fast wolves had already passed half a distance toward me. I released the first orb towards a gorilla in the distance. It jumped once again, trying to avoid my spell, but its fur was caught on fire again. Before it could reach the ground again, I released a second orb. It flew at a great speed leaving behind a trail of red coloured blazing stones. It hit a gorilla in midair, creating an explosion. A seared black skeleton fell to the ground, sickly grey flesh slowly reforming around naked bones only to be rotten away in the next moment by a death attribute that was in my spell.
Wolfes had already reached me, but I blinked away from the encirclement, creating space between us and disrupting their formation.
Twelve magenta-coloured fireballs gathered around me, and I sent them towards regenerating skeleton. They flew towards a skeleton exploding it into dust with twelve small explosions.
With a ranged beast dead, I spread my wings and flew thirty meters above the battlefield, where I stabilized myself by slowly flapping my wings.
'It's time for another unfair cheesy tactic.'
Typ of my staff started to glow, and I aimed it toward a humanoid. A bright solar flare like beam erupted towards them. They attempted to evade it while shrieking, but only two of them made it as a beam was too fast. Bright magenta coloured light surrounded three humanoids forcing me to turn away from them, and they shrieked once again. I kept firing it for a few seconds as these corrupted beasts proved to be resilient.
Meanwhile, two wolves and a goat had already got under me and started to jump, trying to reach me.
"Hahaha, idiots." I couldn't stop myself from laughing at their futile attempts.
Then a small rock hit my barrier with such force that the rock turned into small pieces. I looked for the source, and I found it.
Two remaining stupid ugly humanoids held a bunch of rocks in their hands and started to throw them at me. I immediately moved my hand, holding the staff and aimed it at them without stoping my beam, leaving a trail of lava on the ground where it passed.
"Unga Bunga," one of them shouted before a beam hit them. Horrible shrieks came out until they stopped a few moments later.
'Stupid fools, staying in the group even after what happened to them before...'
I turned my head under me, and both wolves and goat still kept jumping, trying to reach me.
'To be honest, they are so funny with these attempts that I almost do not want to slay them...' I quickly suppressed stupid thoughts and moved my beam towards the remaining beasts, and closed my eyes to protect them.
My mana was quickly dropping, and my mental exhaustion was rising from the continuous casting of powerful spells.
My barrier suddenly started to drop, and I, in panic, opened my eye, only for them to burn away and regenerate immediately.
Then I realized, 'I fired that beam directly under me. Of course, my barrier started to drop...'.
Finally familiar system "Ding" came, and I stopped my beam. My whole forehead was soaked in a sweat, and I kept panting at the strain from my spells.

Choosing a college when your family is struggling can be difficult, but it isn’t supposed to be world ending. And the falling meteor is seriously limiting Matt’s options. Now in the aftermath, his home city is locked down by a mysterious dome, corporations are looking to monopolize a wealth of new untapped resources, and people are suddenly developing powers via a system that seems to have borderline sinister intentions. But be forewarned. It won’t be easy. I'll be writing this fast, so keep in mind there's likely to be typos that we'll correct as we go. Developmental Editing by Lev.

Authors Comment: Hello guys, I am bilingual, sorry if there is bad grammar or it just doesn't make sense or something along the lines. If there are any mistakes (which I know there will be) please tell me even if it's just a minor one. Thank you. Jake was just a normal high school student who plays games and reads manga/novels, he doesn't like to go outside that much and he's a little socially awkward. On one day Jake was just reading a novel and he mumbled ''Status''.
