《Reborn: Last Chance to Ascend》30. Finally, my throne.

I walked out of the cathedral back on the square in front of it where I proclaimed, "Sulivan was captured, and most of the churches forces were destroyed."
Exhausted and loud cheers erupted from some of the darks that were camping in front of the cathedral while the rest of them remained emotionless.
The leader had already woken up and walked towards me. "Finally, victory is almost ours. Take a small group with you and take over lord's castle." then he looked towards others and shouted order, "Go and secure the cathedral. Capture or kill anyone who survived.".
I immediately wanted to gather my group to secure a castle, but there was a problem, 'How am I supposed to create a unit? Should I just pick random people? Am I supposed to ask them or order it? I have no clue.' I looked around for a Rose to help me, but I only spotted her familiar magical aura coming out of the building of the square. She wasn't moving, so I realised that she was probably still unconscious. Then I spotted a group of darks talking to each other, and it struck me with a brilliant idea, 'I don't have to form a group by myself, I just have to put someone else for that task. Yes, that is a proper ruler like behaviour.'
So I walked towards a random average looking man with brown bowl-cut hair. "Hey, I have a task for you".
He looked at me as If he wasn't sure that I talked to him. "Are you talking to me?"
I sighed and continued, "Yes, I am talking to you. Gather a small group. We will be heading towards a castle."
He immediately stood up and rushed to do his job as he excitedly shouted, "Of course, it is an honour to do the assignment given by you".

I briefly smiled as a fantastic feeling of superiority filled me.
A few minutes passed, and a group of twenty masked individuals were lined in front of me.
'Is this a time for a speech? Nah, that is a waste of time.' so I said, "Let's go".
We went directly through the main street. The whole street was empty, and even shutters on the windows were firmly locked. The only sounds that were on the streets were our steps, animal sounds and occasional crying child in the houses. It didn't take us long to reach a cattle as we moved at a speed that would put Olympics athletes back on the earth to a shame.
Castle was huge with a design similar to that late middle ages in Europe, but there were still elements from gothic castles like massive windows on the keep and heavily decorated walls. A layer of ten meters tall walls surrounded a central keep. There was only one entrance that was flanked by two massive round towers on each side. Four more towers were placed on corners of walls, and two massive ones were attached directly to the keep. The main gate was locked, and the portcullis was dropped. There were no soldiers on the walls, but I could see some auras inside of the keep. It would be easy for me to destroy that gate as there were no defensive enchants on it, but it would be like damaging a house you are going to buy. So I instead blinked at the ramparts, then I threw a rope down so that my unit could get inside. Everyone started to climb a rope one by one. It took only five minutes for all of them to reach the top of the walls. It was due to their body being boosted by the power of stats. We all just jumped from the walls directly to the courtyard. The internal gate leading to the keep was luckily open, so we just walked through it. When we entered a castle, it was nothing like what I expected. There were no uncovered stone bricks in the wall. Instead, walls were covered in polished black marble-like stone. Everything was brightly lit with massive chandeliers filled with a glowing magical crystal that hung from a tall arched ceiling.

I focused on the nearest aura. With the help of the [Scan] that I used to map a castle, I directly navigated towards it. As I ran towards an aura with darks on the tail, I couldn't stop being impressed at how luxurious the castle was. Finally, I arrived close to the aura. In front of me were engraved wooden doors. By their size and position, they probably led into some kind of storage. I pushed them open and walked inside. It looked like some kind of room for servants as there was plenty of shelves filled with a utensil. In the corner was a woman in a maid outfit trembling. I walked towards her, "Do you know where is a lord?".
She looked towards me before hastily averting her gaze, "Please do not hurt me. I am just a maid.".
I just smiled and gently put my hand on her trembling shoulder, "Do not worry, I will not hurt you. I will be a new lord of this city, which makes you my maid from now on. And I do not plan to murder my servants just like that. So please speak."
She stopped trembling as she calmed down, "Lord took treasures and escaped with his retainers through an underground corridor.".
I clenched my fist in anger, and my eyes glowed starling a maid, 'He stole my money and escaped? I wanted to be merciful, but now I will add him to the revenge list... Wait, he didn't steal just my money. He stole money from the city. He stole from everyone.' I grabbed a cup from a nearby shelf and threw it towards the wall, where it shattered into hundreds of pieces.
I breathed out multiple times to calm down before I ordered darks with an authoritative tone, "Search the castle. Leave the servants alive. If you find something that you can't beat, just retreat."
All of them nodded before they dispersed into the corridors of a castle. Then I looked at the maid again, "You, show me the way into the throne room or whatever is it called.".
"O-of course." She slowly stood up with evident worry in her eyes. She led me through the corridors until were arrived at the corridor that was wider than others. Decorated armours were standing along the walls like guards. We continued until a big hall opened in front of me. At its end was a beautiful throne made out of some silver-like metal. It wasn't imposing and great enough to call it kings throne, but it was still majestic enough to call it a throne. My heart started to beat faster as I blinked next to the throne. Then I slowly sat on it. The soft cushion on it was very comfortable.
'This is it! I have my throne now.'

It swings between action, drama, and sometimes some darker comedy. Warning: A whole lot of profanity, alcohol, drugs, implied violence, actual violence and mega-violence—the kind that involves knives sliding into eye sockets and brains spilling onto floors—the usual stuff, scenes of intimacy, mercenaries, pirates, lots of moral ambiguity, including a wizard that likes to make tea with the heat sucked from his victim's bodies and a heap of world-ending monsters ready to eat people. _______________ Expectations: Updates every Monday and Thursday. Chapters will be between 2,000 and 5,000 words. I'm Irish and write in "Irish English" which is to say that I don't use much of the letter "z"
