《Reborn: Last Chance to Ascend》29. Inquisitors

All inquisitors quickly overcame their surprise and brandished their weapons. There was five of them. One of them was holding a massive whip covered with sharp thorns. The second was wielding a white glowing mace in one hand and a glowing golden sword in the other. The third one was holding a massive flaming sword. Another one had a small silver crossbow in one hand and an amulet in the shape of an eye in the other. And finally, there was their leader who had a long rapier. They slowly circled me to surround me. Just from their movements, I could see that they were well trained and coordinated. One of them, with a whip, swung it towards me as it glowed in faint white light. I ejected my claws, cutting his whip off, before casting a [Stun Bolt] with as much mana as spell circuits could handle. The pale blue bolt hit an inquisitor into a chest. He staggered for a while, but his colleague gave him a cover, "[Devils Bane]", white light erupted from a medallion he was holding in hand. I was bathed in light, but nothing happened. I was surprised, but the same was true for my opponents as they had weird expressions on their faces. Stunned inquisitor already recovered and swung remnants of his whip again.
'Shit, stunning bolt is too weak. It looks like it will be hard to catch them alive... Wait, I have an idea. Let's immobilize them. Without their limbs, they would be basically stunned'.
I blinked out of whips way and appeared right behind the inquisitor. I leaned lower and swung my claws towards his legs. His legs below a knee were separated. Blood sprayed around. Not wanting him to bleed out, I conjured a [Torch Hnad] and cauterized his bleeding legs. Of course, others inquisitors didn't wait for me and released their attacks. Bolt from a crossbow charged with magical energy hit my barrier simultaneously with the mace and the glowing sword of a dual-wielding inquisitor.
'This too bothersome I will just capture Sulivan... and leader of inquisitors. I wanted to try new staff anyway.'

I summoned my staff as I decided just to kill them. Six [Death-Flame Fireballs] started to grow in size as they orbited the tip of my staff. There was a great difference in their colour as they were no longer purple but magenta also, their flames looked more chaotic. I released them towards an Inquisitor with a crossbow. He immediately moved his hand, holding a holy symbol of eye forward, "[Faith Shield]". A shield made of light appeared in front of him. My fireballs hit it. His shield shattered as two fireballs got through it. Both of them hit an inquisitor. His body was engulfed in magenta flames. Meanwhile, their leader appeared next to me, where he released a storm of glowing rapier stabs on me. Inquisitor wielding a flaming sword stabbed his injured burning colleague on the ground with his sword. "[Purifying Healing Flames]", pure white flames spread over the injured inquisitor, vanishing magenta flames in the process. Soon an ugly burned form on the inquisitor started to heal.
I thought as I blinked to increase the space between us. 'What a weird way to heal... This is problematic, they are complementing each other, and I can't use my most powerful spells underground.'
"Quickly, kill that bitch", Sulivan ordered, giving me a good idea.
I blinked behind a Sulivan, grabbed him by the head and put my cutting claw on his neck.
"Surrender now. I have your boss. I want just him, throw away your weapons, and I will let you go."
They froze for a few moments.
"Do you really think that we would believe your lies?"
"Sorry priest, hopefully, gods will reward you in the afterlife." Said an inquisitor with a crossbow as he fired a glowing bolt towards me, ignoring Sulivan in its path. At the same time, an inquisitor with a flaming sword rushed towards his friend without legs.
I quickly threw Sulivan out of bolts path as I refused to let him die so easily. Bolt instead struck my barrier, which was already weakened after a fight with an angel. I knew that I had to end that fight quickly. Tossed Sulivan hit a wall and fell unconscious. Inquisitor with a mace already closed on me, so I blinked away again and cast six magenta coloured arcs of lightning towards him. To its path jumped an inquisitor holding an amulet in hand "[Faith Shield]". All six arcs struck his shield, shattering it before continuing towards him. For a moment, bones in his body showed like under a roentgen as he fell towards a ground spasming. Their leader and mace inquisitor rushed towards me again. I ignored them and cast six more arcs towards an inquisitor with a flaming sword that was healing his legless comrade. He was hit directly into the back and sent flying towards the wall with smoke coming out of him. His body turned into a bloody rotten mess by chaotic nether element and death element. Two inquisitors reached me releasing powerful attacks, "[Barrier Crusher]", "[Holy Piercer]". I used my free hand to claw rapier. My claws cut through the rapier without any resistance. But a mace struck my barrier, creating a visible crack on its surface.

'One more hit like that, and my barrier would collapse. Still, it was worth it as I took their healer out.'
I blinked again to the other corner of a room, where I fired six more bolts of lightning towards the dual-wielding inquisitor. He brought his sword in front of him like a lightning rod "[Absorb Magic]". All six-bolt changed their trajectory towards a sword, striking it like a lightning rod during a storm. After three bolts, the inquisitor's arm holding swords started to tremble. On the fourth one, his arm already started to smoke. On the fifth one, he dropped a sword and last lightning hit him into his chest. He dropped to the ground, where hehe spasmed a few times before he stopped moving. Only inquisitor leader and Sulivan remained alive. The leader looked at his broken rapier and started to despair as a sweat formed on his temple.
"Let me be you, beast. Take Sulivan and let me be." I ignored him as I slowly walked towards him. "Wait! I can serve you. I am strong I will be useful to you."
I took off my mask and smiled at him "Don't worry you will not die, yet. I have a different fate for you."
A relieved look appeared on the inquisitor's face. But I knew that he wouldn't be so relieved if he knew what I planned for him.
Eight stun bolts flew out of my staff and hit a surprised inquisitor into the face. He fell to the ground where he occasionally twitched.

I peeked out of doors to the hallway. It was familiar to me, and after a while, I remembered it was the hallway I saw when I was imprisoned there. I grabbed both survivors by the scruff and dragged them through the hallway until I arrived in front of a cell. I there both of them inside and secured a cell outside.
'I will leave them for later. It's time to finish this up.'

Mark of the Lash
Born from a precarious relationship between a Drow and his prize, Serena Lash struggles to find her place, and herself, as she fights to persevere through the hardships life throws her way. A story born from a D&D game I am currently a part of. The narrative will follow the events of the campaign as closely as possible, with some events having been tweaked to better fit into a written story. A slow burn, the narrative does skip around a bit due to the nature of the campaign, considering that not everything in the game needs to be written about. This will begin to peter out the further the story progresses, but for the first parts, expect a bit of skipping!
