《Doomsday 2020》30. Mexico Ruins

The group had just arrived in Mexico City International Airport. Alex, Aria, Professor James and Cindy were walking inside the terminal.
Apparently, Cindy is not just the professor’s assistant, but she is also his top student, the professor likes to bring her around to help him appraise the relics and translate markings.
"Five flights and six cities in less than 10 days, many more in the next few days... I guess when the Doomsday comes, I am not going to miss these airplanes."
The group exits the airport gate and there is a person standing on the side, a guy is waiting for them.
"Professor John! Professor John!"
The professor stops and introduces the person.
"Alex this is Robert, he is from the Science of Human Civilization Foundation, SOHC, this foundation is what keeps the research going even when the university and the government has already stopped our funding. Now, they help me just about anything in regards the relic sites.”
"Haloo Mr. Alex, the professor has told me about you."
Robert stares at Aria, as she beautiful girl and is standing close to Alex, he couldn’t help his curiosity.
"Is this your girlfriend, Mr. Alex?"
Aria was startled...
"No.. no.. She is my associate, don't joke with me, I am old enough and I already have a wife and two daughters."
"Ah, I m sorry Mr. Alex. It is nice to meet you, Ms. Aria"
Aria...
Alex’s wife and daughters. That is new information for Aria. For some reason, she had mixed feelings hearing about this.
"Let's go. Due to it being on such a short notice, I apologize that I was only able to bring a simple car, but the ruin is only 20 kilometers away from here."
Mexico is a country in the southern portion of North America. The history of Mexico itself backdated to 8,000 BC and is identified as one of five cradles of civilization. It was the home for many advanced civilization such as the Toltec, Teotihuacan, Maya, and Aztec, until got conquered and colonized by the Spanish empire in the 15th century.

The group arrived in the ruins of Teopanzolco, where the name also meant ‘abandoned temple’, until this day no one knows why it was abandoned. The main structure of the ruins is the large double pyramid. It was also the place where they used to worship gods. The Aztecs were known to practice human sacrifice. In this ruin, a scientist has found a mass grave site of 92 mutilated bodies of men, women and children.
This site is actually one of the relic sites that was treated as special by the professor. In just a year and a half ago, there was an earthquake which revealed another hidden chamber. This is what Ales is interested in the most. He walks down the temple into the caves with high hopes.
Under the temple, the first thing they found was a simple maze, and then there was a mid-sized chamber with many markings around it. This is where the professor got the research materials for his study. In one of the corners inside the room, there was something that seemed to be a wall opening. There were many rubles and stones around it. This was part of the ruins that was opened by the earthquake. After clearing out some of the rubble, there was a long path going down for about 500 meters. They entered a larger chamber, it was a big hall as big as a soccer field. Professor James had mentioned this hall chamber in his book. This room has more markings than all of the other five sites combined. This chamber was accidentally opened by the earthquake a year and a half ago, this was the main reason that the professor was able to get enough samples to translate and came up with the theory about the incoming Doomsday.
Looking at the situation inside the chamber, Alex felt much more relaxed by now because for them to be able to go into the room, it meant that the seal is already broken. This seal was supposed to be only opened after the Doomsday Pillars had arrived. But contrary to his expectation, the earthquake had managed to open up a path leading to this secret chamber. Alex walks around the chamber and slowly checks some of the walls. Alex studied the wall markings, and finally, Alex found the spot he was looking for.

"Professor, this is the spot. This is the way in."
"What do you mean? I have already checked all the walls using a sensor, but there is nothing behind these walls."
"Trust me professor. Our current technology is not advanced enough to check what is behind these walls."
The professor replied,
"Then how do we get in?"
Alex has some C4s in his storage ring, but that plan is too risky as they are currently underground, if the explosion is too powerful, they might get trapped or the entry may become blocked. There seemed to be no other way but Alex had suddenly thought of the thing inside his storage ring.
"I believe I have more surprises for you professor."
Alex summoned out the golem from the ring. The group of four, Aria, Cindy, Robert and the professor were all shocked!
"This is an artifact that I got from the first relic."
Alex orders the golem to push the door with its full power. The golem currently has the strength of a Peak Stage Mortal Realm. Hopefully, it will be enough to open up the door.
BRRAAAKKKKK...!!
Fortunately, it really is enough, or else Alex would need to use some explosives instead.
The group was finally able to explore inside the next room and was still in amazement as they looked at the golem. Alex took back the golem and finally reached the secret chamber.
It was supposed to be a simple grab and take plan. In the first day that Alex got reincarnated, he already had plans and have decided to come and grab this artifact. This ruin has the artifact that Alex desperately needs. This is the one and only thing that Alex knows off and hopes to be the solution in saving his daughter Tiffany from the plague.
Alex already knows about the function of the artifact and where to get it. He has also half expected that the earthquake would neutralize the seal. His initial plan was to just grab and take from the site, but this time he decided to include the professor into his plan. He wanted the professor to believe in him and help him to prepare the people for the upcoming Doomsday.
The group enters the secret chamber and walks around the room. The professor has found another set of writings, this is what he came looking for. As for Alex, he already knows where to look for the item he needs. In the middle of the room, there is a coffin. Alex walks closer and then opens up the lid. This time, it was not a ring, rather, there was an amulet being held by the corpse. Alex took the amulet and put it inside his storage ring.
"Finally, the Amulet of Sun."
It's a medium rank artifact.
The professor had realized that Alex took something, but he didn't say anything.
Alex waited for the professor to document the writings and once they were done, they finally made their way back up outside of the abandoned temple.
‘Thankfully that went well.’
Alex thought...
But when they were out of the temple, they were surprised to see many people standing outside the temple pointing rifles at them. There were around 30 of them all armed.
The person in the middle of the group who seemed to be their leader spoke,
"I really hope that you guys did found something interesting."
The professor replies,
"Who are you guys?"
Surprisingly, Robert was the one to answer.
“Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Führer”

Magician's Pact
A young boy with a special key finds himself caught up with an old wizard, an ancient prohpecy, and a possibly conspercy. This sounds like the sort of thing most childern would love to be a part of, but there are just three small problems. The first is that he is not the hero. Someone already got that role. The second is that he isn't a wizard. He is a Magician which complicates things. The third is that there might be a chance that the whole 'problem' might be comming from his end. Personally he never understood (or interacted with) the 'secret' magical world, but that becomes a problem when the magical world apparently has what his role is supposed to be according to their ancient book... and they are not to happy about him not matching their book. Still it shouldn't be to hard right? All he has to do is go to a school, learn some wizard magic, make sure nobody takes his key... also avoid dying. Thankfully he has had a lot of expereince with that last part and a bunch of Twig Twirling childern can't be too dangerious? Right?

The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
