《Fallen God decides to live a little》Chapter 8: Overwhelming difference

Did I do something wrong?
I look at Kin.
Kin’s face is grim but she’s smiling.
I haven't been with her for a long time but I've seen her show a lot of expressions.
These expressions range from extreme rage to incessant guilt.
I think this smile is her scariest expression.
Creepy...
I think of the consequences of my reaction and forget that Calvin exists.
While Kin looks peaceful to the outside world, Calvin is the opposite.
Even though Calvin's angry, he looks hysterical.
The soldiers around the camp look at us with interest.
Even nearby villagers are approaching us.
My outburst must've attracted them.
While I look around, Calvin fumbles for words.
“Then if you’re so brave! Come meet me at the center of the camp!”
While Calvin was shouting his throat out, I’ve been thinking.
What was this village’s name again?
It’s a frontier village but what was its name again.
I think I saw a sign...
It was- ouch.
I feel someone pinching my shoulder.
I turn around and see that Kin is heavily pinching my left shoulder.
She’s still smiling with that creepy expression
“Magnus, you better back up your words and go to the center of the camp.”
She’s encouraging me to fight?
Are Felina’s conditions that lax?
Her next words actually managed to chill me.
“If you get hurt, don’t worry I’ll heal you.”
Kin's smile just got scarier.
Even though I appreciate her offer to heal me, I don’t really have any intention to lose.
Nobody normal wants to get hurt after all.
People give way as I follow Calvin to the center of the camp.
Calvin must have some form of reputation because a lot of people are interested in watching.
I hear people talk about Calvin and his attitude.
Some of them try to steer the topic to me and my pet wyvern.
Wait... Where the hell is that monster anyway?
I look around and I don't see it anywhere in the camp.
Good for nothing wyvern.
Well, it's not like I was going to sic it towards Calvin.
Kin would have stopped me.
Some of them are actually betting who would win.
Obviously, a lot of people are betting against me.
Wait Kin is betting as well.
She’s betting against Calvin…
Kin seems to have noticed that I’ve been staring at her. She gives me a thumb up with a reassuring smile.

Her smile says that if I lose, the church will be losing its funds for a month.
Why the hell did you bet the church's money!?
Felina! Your avatar is a horrible human being!
I give her a wry smile before I go to the center.
The center of the camp is a small clearing of dirt devoid of any grass.
I see a lot of cuts and holes, that obviously come from sharp weapons, on the dirt floor.
I guess we aren’t the first people to fight here.
“I guess you aren’t completely gutless."
Calvin starts spewing vicious words which I ignore.
He grabs the hilt of his steel long sword and takes a stance.
He looks like a great warrior preparing to use his legendary 1 hit kill move.
That must be his thought process right now.
I sometimes wonder what people think just before they enter combat.
Are they thinking the same thing, I'm thinking?
Before I could continue my random thoughts, the shouts of soldiers and villagers call me back to reality.
“Go! Calvin!!”
“Calvin I just bet 50 copper coins on your ass, you better not lose”
“Oi! New guy, I just risked my lunch for you, if you lose I’ll take your lunch”
I hear a lot of comments and jeers from the spectators.
I think I hear Kin shouting too but I don’t really want to ruin her image for me.
She's the first mortal I met after all, other than my wyvern.
The jeers and shouts invigorate Calvin, who's starting to swing and flourish his sword in inefficient ways.
What is this idiot doing?
He's wasting his stamina.
Instead of getting excited, I'm getting a bit frustrated.
Is my first round of combat going to be with an idiot?
Well, let’s get this started.
I take my whole sword including the sheath and remove it from the strap. I unsheathe the blade and throw the sheath a few yards to my forward left.
What I did next shocked everyone. I threw my blade to the right just a few yards away from arms reach.
If I had a spear, I'd show these people how to fight elegantly but unfortunately, I have to use a sword.
I'm not bad at it. I just really prefer using a spear or anything similar, like a halberd.

The one who’s shocked the most is Calvin.
I can’t help but smile at the thought that I’ve been reduced to fighting low-end soldiers, with no hope of rising through the ranks.
Well, I have to start somewhere.
Calvin stops his stupid flourishes.
"What are you do-"
I suddenly lunged forward.
Calvin finally comes out of his stupor and fixes his stance again.
He suddenly unsheathes his blade to cut my head off.
I predict his attack and I lunge downward, just below his blade.
I use my right hand to grab his right wrist.
"Urgh"
I twist it with a quick movement and he drops his sword as he groans in pain.
I use my left hand to catch his falling sword and it quickly finds itself nested on Calvin's neck.
I add a bit of pressure just to intimidate him.
“I win.”
I look at Calvin and see his face. He wasn't expecting this.
I let go of Calvin’s wrist and give him back his sword.
He’s still frozen from shock.
I turn around and walk towards my sword.
"Ahhhhh!"
Once I grabbed my sword, I immediately twist my body and parry Calvin’s sword.
When I parried his blade, I hit his handle hard enough to make him drop it.
I catch his blade using my own and throw it up towards the sky.
I punch him in the gut with all of my strength making him drop to his knees.
His blade quickly falls down towards us and I catch it with my free hand.
I use both swords and pin his neck with them.
“I kind of knew you would do that. You’re a pretty obvious person.”
The only ones more shocked than Calvin was the crowd.
No one knew who I was and what I could do but nobody expected that I was capable of using my sword so proficiently.
After proving my point, I throw Calvin’s sword and behind him and walk towards my sheath.
I sheathe my sword and strap it to my side.
The crowd suddenly goes wild and cheer, especially the ones who gambled for me.
I see Kin from behind the crowd looking extremely happy and satisfied.
She's holding a thick pouch filled with a lot of silver coins.
I smile and signal for her to come to me.
Seeing that I called for her, the crowd goes even wilder and pushes Kin toward the center.
[Recovered hidden skill Martial Knowledge From the War Goddess]
[Martial Knowledge from the War Goddess is permanently active]
[Martial Knowledge from the War Goddess is sealed and its bonuses are lessened]
I ignore the status notification and focus my attention on Kin.
“So who were you going to heal?”
Gods are proud not because of petty fights but because we simply are.
But... This type of pride I'm feeling is something only mortals would feel and it feels amazing.
Smiling ear to ear, I stare at Kin like how Elyis used to stare at me.
Adopting a proud pose, Kin retorts.
“No one, I had full trust towards you, I was just scaring you.”
She ended it with a smile.
“How much did you win?"
“Tch”
Kin looks away but recovers easily and faces me with a bright smile again.
"20 Silver!"
She shows me a pouch that jingles with metal.
Some poor lad out there lost their money.
I don't know how much that is worth but money is money.
I stare at Kin and chuckle.
I’m happy but I am not stupid enough to forget the important things, so I ask Kin quietly
“When did you cast an illusion?”
Kin doesn’t respond and just smiles at me.
I guess I’ll have to thank her later.
Before we could continue our conversation, a dignified shout hushes the voices of all the soldiers and people at the camp.
“THE PRINCESS IS HERE!”
Princess?

Dungeons Are Bad Business
Vee Vales has been kicked out of his home and directed to make his own way in the world. Along with his friend Alforde Armorsoul, Vee travels to the city of Oar's Crest. Once a prosperous and well-to-do city, Oar's Crest has fallen into depression and disrepair. After finding a strange stone that takes up residence in a tattered top hat and introduces itself as Reginald, Vee and Alforde decide to open a dungeon in Oar's Crest to revitalize the city and, more importantly, make some fleurs. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Author's Note: Dungeons are Bad Business (DABB) is a slow burn slice-of-life dungeon core litRPG citybuilder that's focused on the day to day experience of running a dungeon. There will be some action, but it won't be the focus of the story and Vee and his friends will usually overcome their problems with their minds and their pocketbooks instead of their weapons. Since I'm participating in the writeathon, I will probably be uploading chapters almost daily for the duration of the event. Thanks for reading!

How to have fun in an apocalypse (Rewrite)
After spending an unsavory amount of time in hell, our protagonist finally manages to escape the place that had kept him captive for so long... again. Unfortunately, even after plotting and planning for years, he ends up in a place not much different from the burning and agonizing Tartarus he once had to call home. Guts, blood, and carnage start to reign over Earth as soon as he set foot in it, much to his dismay. What use is it to cry over spilled milk, though? Tired of the monotony of endless torture, he steps into the world intending to have as much fun as possible. While others might try to raid the Orc Lord with as many people as possible, why not challenge him to an arm-wrestling tournament? The power of friendship will surely be on his side. Why hide from the big, bad wolf in one of your houses if wearing camo in plain sight should have the same effect? Now, making friends and going on adventures would be perfectly fine, if it wasn't for the fact that he hides a few more secrets than one might think at first. This is a complete rewrite! Due to being unsatisfied with the previous version, I have decided to work the story up, beginning from the older chapters! Version 2.0 includes: - enhanced writing and editorial skills - additional information and aspects to characters - minor deviation from storyline and improvements

Long Shadow
No destiny, no choice, no hope. Our protagonist, a coward summoned to a world meant for heroes; a new world with new rules and old cruelties. Join him on his adventures as he must deal with menus, monsters, and mysteries in this litrpg fantasy. Thomas Goodwill was an average boy with an average life, all that changed when he woke up in a new reality. Now, out of his depth, damn near out of his mind, he must learn to survive in a game-like reality with no reloads, checkpoints, or save scumming. He does, however, have a drunk snake. Thank you for reading my first story, hopefully, the first of many to come. This will be my main story and is meant to help me practice and hone my skills as I slowly produce more complex ideas. It's a litrpg in which I want to only lightly focus on the mechanics as I don’t want to pad out the word count with math and number tables and while I want to add a few of my own twists here and there, overall I’m going to keep this story close to generic as possible so that I don't let my inexperience lead me into a corner. Thanks again to all willing to leave a review or some constructive criticism, without you I'd never improve. Unfortunately, Cover art is by me.
