《An Upgraded Soul》117 - Where to Start

Cries of pain rang through the bungalow as a group of people were being beaten black and blue, without any respite. The house was luxurious, filled with extravagant decorations. Aditya placed himself in the dark so that the people could only see his outline. He wanted to create an inexplicable fear of the 'unknown' in these people.
Aditya sat a comfy chair as he gazed calmly at these people. These people were the last batch of the day. It was nearing midnight, and everyone was exhausted.
Thomas and the other wrapped their faces as it was standard practice. Aditya taught them some basics so that they wouldn't make simple mistakes like showing their faces, leaving fingerprints etc.
In the beginning, Aditya thought that beating these bastards would be fun. But, after two helpings, he grew tired. In the end, they were too weak. Almost all of them had one or the other kind of medical disorders in their bodies. Aditya felt as if these people would be good subjects for Hamsa's medical practice.
Let alone Aditya, even if a healthy youth threw a punch at them, they would die. He had spent more time to concentrate on 'not' killing them by mistake. So, Aditya did not have the time to enjoy. After some time, he left the beating to Thomas and others.
Aditya prioritised the local politicians over the others, as they were the actual ground forces. He had to deal with them in the future. It was not hard to control these people, as they were corrupt and weak-minded. It was not like they were people with moral integrity. All he had to do was clarify their options.
If they choose to surrender to Aditya, their advantage would be that they and their family members would be alive and out of jail. Refusal would result in their death. It was quite simple but effective.

In the future, Aditya had to 'train' them to fear him. It was a time taking process. Some people would be killed in the process and serve as 'excellent examples' for others. Aditya wanted some people to cross the line and act brave. The earlier some people acted smart, the quicker the results.
Aditya had no barriers, neither psychologically nor socially, about using 'murder' as a tool, anymore. He conditioned himself accordingly. Aditya wouldn't even bat an eyelid if he killed any of these people.
These people deserved death, and Aditya did not mind being the executioner. Keeping people suffering from poverty and diseases for decades, while the rest of the country moved forward, was their sin.
Aditya looked at the person, who was crying the loudest, with a cold gaze. This person was the last member that Aditya wanted to bring under his control. He was a little special. He was not a local politician but a politician of state-level (Province).
Aditya waved his hand. Thomas and others stopped the beating. Even they were feeling quite frustrated as they couldn't utilise their full strength.
"So, who are your contacts in Raipath family?" Aditya could find out these details by himself. But, he wanted to find out if the 'thrashing' was enough or not. If this person lied, then another 'round' would start.
The person who was in the middle hesitated a little. Thomas temper was flaring because of all these 'controlled' attacks. He took a beer bottle and smashed it against a table.
The bottle broke on one end, exposing sharp glass shards. Thomas smirked as held the broken bottle and said, "Boss, I always wanted to know how a person would feel if I shoved it up their ***. Maybe this honourable person can volunteer?"
The person violently trembled when he saw the broken bottle. He scurried towards Aditya as he held his legs and said, "Sir, the in-charge of these affairs in our state is Manjunath, he lives near white field, the person who I contact with regards to these things is…"

It was not just that person, even Aditya's legs slightly trembled when he heard Thomas's words. But he could not deny that his words worked as this person yielded. These followers of his had a rough upbringing on the streets after all.
"Did you get that?" Aditya asked a follower, who was recording these confessions in his phone.
"Yes, Boss."
This recording was his way of preventing these people from going back to Raipath Family. No one would want fickle-minded people as their followers even if these followers were coerced into confessing. Who can guarantee that it wouldn't repeat? So, any competent organisation would not accept such people.
From the confessions of these people and information from the 'dream world', Aditya knew a lot about the Raipath family. The cruel methods that Raipath family employed, to keep all the news under wraps, were discussed widely in 'dream world'.
So, in a way, Aditya used Raipath family's infamous reputation against them. When threatened with instant death, these people confessed. But if there was a notion that Raipath family would forgive them, they might turn back immediately. That would not allow Aditya's plans to be implemented. But now, these people knew that once they had betrayed Raipath family, there was no going back. They knew what would happen to them if they said that they leaked critical information about Raipath family.
The only way to ensure their survival was to work together with Aditya. Aditya could escape from Raipath family but they can't. They would have to take more caution so that news of their betrayal was not revealed.
Aditya also did not plan to go after all the pockets. For one, the area of the affected territory in his state (province) was enough for now. Also, if he targeted every member, his plan would not work. If five to six members became traitors, they would be eliminated. But, if everyone did the same thing, then even Raipath family would have to think twice before acting. This scenario might encourage these people to go back to Raipath family.
Aditya wanted these people to feed false news to Raipath family while working for him. He wanted them to act like 'double agents'. Even though these people were not professionals, Aditya believed that the threat of death from both sides would make them work efficiently. He also revealed that they were other people, too, who had surrendered to him.
If Aditya could make these people believe that they were other people who were similar to them, it would instil a sense of dread and confidence in them. So, the next time they saw any other member, they would have question themselves if this person was a traitor like them or not.
This situation would build a sense of distrust and disharmony among the group, which was what Aditya wanted, precisely. As long as the sense of belonging to a group weakened, Aditya could implement his next plan.

Upheaval - The Gentle Apocalypse
The world is changing, but people carry on. Early in the summer, the world started changing. It is not known who first found out, but magic was real, or had become real. Of course, with the world as interconnected as it is, it took only two days for most people to know about it. Online groups sprang up, eager to test humanity’s collective new toy. Quickly, it was found out that it was all but harmless; there were (unconfirmed) reports of deaths as soon as the first day. Nevertheless, it is a novelty to most, trying it out like you’d try sports or a game. The world marches on as scientists set out to study this new phenomenon, to use it for furthering our collective knowledge and to understand it. But that won’t show any results any time soon; it is only five days since the “Reveal” meanwhile I’m out camping. I had planned this since March, to unwind from sixteen years of studying. Finally! Finally I am done with school! Getting a job is another matter… So I figured, with this magic stuff, why not try out meditating on it? I’ve enjoyed more than enough books and other media that at least some of the magic methods should be viable. Turns out, the world might not let me relax. R15+ Coarse language and adult themes. This story is finished.

First time writing any sort of story. Everything is still a work in progress. As I improve on my writing I will go back and edit parts. Early chapters are subject to change as I grow my ability. I am going to try my best to write this world and improve as I go. My goal is to make my dream come to life through the medium of text. This is why I wanted to post it here. Feel free to comment, and bring constructive criticism. Hope you enjoy! More info (Spoiler warning): only read if you are picky, read a lot, and want to waste no time with a story you may not want read. This book is a litrpg. This means it contains stat tables, and other game elements. (Which you may gloss over if you would like) It is written in a fantasy world, in the style of a progression fantasy. The main character grows in power as the story plays out. My characters are written to my best ability, but you may find them immature. The MC has to adjust to fighting, and killing which he struggles with for a while. His partner is a magical salamander who is a friend and mentor. The world building, monsters, and descriptions are also low tier. (I am working hard to change that!) If you are okay reading something by someone who is just getting started then welcome! I am doing my best, and incrementally improving as I go.
