《Undetermined》Chapter 29- On the brink

Trevor did not seem to be worried at all, despite the fact that Rylth was edging towards him across the web.
Twang.
Twang.
With each step the giant female spider took, the cobwebs that held the antiheroes captive vibrated violently, only further inducing the terror of the situation.
The webs were extremely thick, and the diameter of a strand was multiple inches across. It was not something that could be so easily cut, but Trevor swung his hand behind his head and grabbed an arrow from his pouch.
In the time that the spider was listening to Trevor go on about pessimism and optimism, Garett had already used [Tactical Analysis] on the spider to reveal its statistics.
[Spider Queen, Intelligent and Wild Breed] (Lvl 12 )
Attack: 10-20 (Melee)
Physical Defense: 10 (Thick Skin)
Magical Defense: 0
HP: 60/60
MP: 5/5
Special skills: Spit Venom (Ranged poison attack), 5-20 Damage over time, Spray Silk- Trap enemies to restrict their movement (Ranged) , Magical Defense up: Cost, 5 MP, Increase Magical Defense by 5 for 2 attacks.
Trevor took the arrow and began to saw away at the sticky web, however...
[Player Trevor: Dexterity roll: minimum roll needed: 81]
Trevor chucked as if he knew that it wasn't going to work, but he did not seem to be worried in the least.
[Dexterity roll: 57. Failure]
And with that, the arrow which Trevor was sawing the web with caught into the sticky mesh of the cobweb so that it was glued in, and completely stuck.
[Trying to cut my webs with such a measly thing? How desperate of you... perhaps you were too overconfident in your own abilities...], the giant spider exclaimed mockingly.
She seemed to be enjoying the fact that Trevor was struggling helplessly, yet Trevor did not seem fazed.
"Could it be that you did not hear a single word I just told to my companion? Or perhaps you are even dumber than she is, and failed to comprehend them?"

At this provocation, the spider hurried up her pace as she quickly crawled across the web.
She was not taking any more of Trevor's taunting.
"WHY DO YOU KEEP ON PROVOKING HER!? ARE YOU AN IDIOT!!?!?!"
Samantha screamed at Trevor.
Samantha was shaking in fear as the spider continued drawing closer, and she began to try and break loose from the cobwebs, to no avail. They were extremely sticky, and very strong.
Why did Trevor seem so calm as he was about to be devoured?
Why did Garett and Ashley merely sit back and watch as this was happening?
Why did these three continuously take in these insane situations as if they were nothing? Did Trevor really have a plan, or was this another bluff?
"I think that's about close enough", Trevor said, as the spider was only a few meters away from him.
[What!?]
Ashley let out a smirk.
Even though she was bound by the stickiness of the threads, she was still able to move her fingers around to aim a spell.
[Evil Eye(Lvl 1)]
The evil eye formed from a gathering of black particles, pulsating and flapping its bat like wings.
[Player Ashley MP: 79/80]
While the evil eye was forming from the particles of darkness, the spider queen was too focused on Trevor to notice that Ashley was doing anything.
The spider queen lifted her giant hairy leg once she reached Trevor, and thrust it down into his abdomen.
[Player Trevor: HP: 28/35]
Blood spurted from Trevor's abdomen, and he spit blood out of his mouth as well.
He did not take as much damage as the minimum damage for the spider queen would suggest. The reason for this was because she was playing with him. She was furious with how he had acted so arrogantly towards her, and was not willing to kill Trevor off so easily.

The evil eye was taking quite a while to fully form. That was the one weakness of this skill, was that it took a long time to actually perform, and that the enemy had to be completely focused on someone else.
[I won't kill you so quickly you insolent piece of garbage.... I will show you that you were wrong to take such an attitude with me...]
The fangs of the spider queen were now seething with bloodthirst as she drooled all over the injured Trevor, however he continued staring at her defiantly.
The spider queen once more lifted her pointed leg, and stabbed Trevor this time in the leg.
Arm.
Other leg.
Everything except a fatal wound.
[Player Trevor: HP: 10/35]
Trevor was covered in punctures all over his body at this point.
Samantha could not bear to watch this.
"TREVOR!!!! YOU IDIOT!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING ACTING SO CONFIDENT ON THE VERGE OF DEATH!??!?!"
Samantha was crying at this point.
Tears flowed down her face for the sake of Trevor. Why was he doing this? Why did he provoke this spider so much? And most importantly, how was he still acting confident even as he was being stabbed? Did he not feel pain?
"This... blergh!"
Trevor spit up more blood.
"This is nothing compared to the daily stress I incurred in my line of work... blegh!!"
"I hope you will learn a valuable lesson from this, you dumb woman... And I thought you knew that you aren't supposed to say my name..."
Trevor said this as if he was speaking his last words.
"NOO!!! YOU CAN'T DIE LIKE THIS!!! YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY ME BACK FOR ALL THOSE TIMES YOU CALLED ME AN IDIOT!!! ARE YOU GOING TO JUST LEAVE US IN THIS WORLD ALONE!!???"
Why was Garett not doing anything? Why was Ashley so calmly casting her spell? Was Samantha the only person here who felt human emotions? A comrade was dying in front of them!
However, Ashley had finally finished her preparations.
[Paralyze]
[Player Ashley Intelligence Roll: 25. 25 Seconds of Paralysis]
The evil eye blinked and opened itself wide. The veins on the eye looked like they were about to burst, and the queen spider froze in place with her leg lifted above Trevor.
[What is this...]
Ashley smirked and began to chuckle.
"You really are a businessman, taking such a risk like that... I would feel bad if I didn't follow up and seal the deal... and you, woman. better heal him before he bleeds out. What are you doing crying before someone dies?"

Wildling
Blurb: Silas--a scavenger living off the ruins of humanity--has spent his entire life fighting tooth and nail to provide for himself and his crew. But when a scavenging run goes awry and he's snatched up by an android patrol, he finds himself thrown into a cage and priced to sell as a pet. And when a suitor comes calling, he fears the worst: that he'll be turned into a Domestic, a human lapdog brainwashed into total obedience. Instead, he discovers an equally disturbing truth: that the creatures who stole his world have created a videogame the likes of which Earth has never seen; a sprawling, game-like theme park where humans are the Avatars and androids are the players who control them. And to make matters worse, his android guide is as hopeless as they come, having gotten all of her previous Avatars killed in record time. So if Silas wants to regain his freedom, he'll not only have to fight his way through a world that was specifically designed to murder him in brutal fashion--he'll also have to convince his android guide that he should be the one calling the shots. FAQS: Q: Who are you, handsome stranger? A: I'm Kyle Kirrin, the author of Shadeslinger, book 1 of The Ripple System, published by Portal Books, and I write crunchy LitRPG. Q: What is Wildling? And is it complete? A: Wildling is a crunchy LitRPG mash up of Fantasy and Science Fiction. And yup, Wildling is already complete at 64 chapters, or about 120,000 thousand words. You're looking at something like a third draft here--it's fairly polished, but it hasn't been picked over by a copy editor yet nor has my developmental editor seen it. Q: Upload schedule? A: 5 initial chapters today (2/15/2021) and one chapter a day for the next month. After that I'll probably slow down to 2 or 3 chapters a week until the story is complete. Q: How crunchy is it? A: It's pretty crunchy. I'd put it on the same tier as Ascend/The Land/RSSG, but it might be a bit crunchier than those three? Q: Is this the first book in a series or a web novel or what? And what are your plans for it? A: It's currently a standalone with series potential. Full disclosure: this story may head the way of my publisher eventually, but will be available on RR for quite a while no matter what. Likely several months after it's complete with plenty of warning before/if it's taken down. Q: What kind of build does the MC create? A: Sword and board! Q: Crafting? A: Plenty! Crafting isn't as center stage as it is in The Way of the Shaman, but it's close. Q: Base building? A: Two fully separate, distinct bases, both of which play a major role in the story. Q: VRMMO? Portal? Reincarnation or what? A: This one's a bit tricky. Basically an advanced race has created a game-like world that closely resembles a theme park. Think Westworld but with copious amounts of loot. And the MC has to fight his way through that to earn his freedom. Q: Permadeath? A: Nope! The MC gets 3 lives to play through the entirety of the game world, and death is extremely punishing, but not fatal. Q: Harem? Or romance? A: No and no. Q: Cursing? Blood? A: Quite a bit of cursing, yeah. There's blood, too, but it's not a gory book by any means. Q: How can I support? A: Instead of a Patreon/donations etc, I'd ask that you consider giving my debut LitRPG Shadeslinger a chance. It's free on Kindle Unlimited and the audio is already out narrated by Travis Baldree. It's an epic fantasy VRMMO where the main character gets 3 days of exclusive access to a new game plus a snarky, talking axe to guide him through it in exchange for agreeing to become the target of a serverwide manhunt once the Head Start period ends. Q: How's it similar to Wildling? And how's it different? A. The crunch level is very similar, but Shadeslinger is a much lighter, epic fantasy take on the genre. It's also VRMMO, but without any real world components aside from the first chapter. The MC is very different--he comes off as a bit of a jerk early on and can take a bit to warm up to, especially before his backstory is revealed--but he's also got a talking axe that constantly puts him in his place. Shadeslinger's a much more humorous story in general, and it's a great deal more polished as well. Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy Wildling!

The Second Coming of Fate [A High Fantasy Story]
Prologue Arc: The Day That Begins Your Fate - COMPLETED Story Arc 1: Chaos in the Lamorian Kingdom - ONGOING Please consider following/leaving a rating. I plan to turn this into a long lasting series, and it would really mean a whole lot to me. :) ----- Having succumb to amnesia, Galvin one day appears in the Grand Forest east of the capital kingdom Lamora. For the next two months, he lives a perfectly carefree yet boring life until one fateful day changed everything. Encountering all sorts of characters and dealing with all sorts of shenanigans, Galvin begins to experience visions of what appears to be the future. With this newfound power in a world full of magic, yet plagued with war, discrimination, and brutality, will Galvin be able to change fate…or die trying? ----- Do you like stories where the protagonist doesn't start out strong and is deeply character driven (with a LOT of inner monologues)? A story that has its fair share of comedic and dark moments? Well then you've come to the right place! However, if you're looking for LitRPG mechanics, then unfortunately, this story doesn't contain too many of them. The dynamics of the story will be based on real life physics and mechanics (with a bit of magic of course!) Also, I delve deeply into a lot of disturbing topics, so readers do be warned. However, if any of this sounds interesting to you, then please come by and give my story a read. ----- Expect releases as soon as possible (which is like 4 - 10 days). Just know that I'm writing this story as it progresses, so a lot of first drafts are to be expected. :D

The Last Guild: Remastered
Crimson Strife, the most famous guild in all of Eternia. Known far and wide for amazing feats and powerful users. In the final days of Eternia, members would start to quit as the day for shutdown drew closer. In the final minutes of the game, the founding members of Crimson Strife came together and waited for the end. However the end didn't come as expected, instead something new began.I have taken over the writing of this series from Thecode. Since this is the first time I am writing a fanfiction, I am very open to people posting comments in order to tell me what I am doing wrong or how to make the series better. I will also do my best to respond back to people's comments. I will upload a picture once I figure out how to do so. The first few chapters will be pretty much what Thecode uploaded before with a few changes in order to set up the story. I will try to upload a new chapter at least once every three days.

Dauntless: Origins
Snow white hair, blue eyes, pale. Devil, monster, mutt, failure. This story follows one Tyr Faeron, crown prince, heir primus and mass murderer. A wrathful, angry, and lost young man that has made it his goal to hunt down the men that killed his mother - and he is on the cusp of finishing the promise he'd made before her cairn stones so many years ago. On the surface he is duplicitous, whimsical, and base of cunning - but within the depths beyond the many masks he wears, something is waiting. Waiting for an end, the end he'd come to long for, whether it be to himself or any possible threats in his vicinity. After that long labor of vengeance is completed... Nobody knows, not even him - an arrogant and otherwise solitary individual with nothing in the way of friends - only the brothers of the blackguard who follow him through life as he pursues this mission. He was born a prince, but he'd be called a disappointment - failing to manifest the great power that he was born to before being summarily discarded by his father, a 250 year old 'primus'. That word again... Men who can shatter mountains and level cities, that's what he was supposed to be. Some call them demi-gods, all Tyr sees is a poor excuse for a parent. Time had made him bitter, cruel, and arguably psychotic - seeing only enemies wherever he looks. They'd come for him, too, one day - to wipe the slate clean and make room for another - and it's his conviction to ensure that he dies while taking as many of those rats with him. This is a story about finding acceptance, growth, and understanding - from the point of view of a cold and brutal individual who wears many masks. Of someone who was born to be the greatest emperor the eastern continent has ever seen - but he failed in that. Strong, yes, but only in the context of a man - Tyr's magic is weak. His convictions are weak. He has been made a beast of instinct by loss and a constant confronting of his own impotency in the face of his father. A mythos that stretches across planes, of magic, a pantheon of cruel gods. Of someone who's dedicated his entire mind to the art of killing a man, and none to living a normal childhood or coming to understand friendship, empathy, or compassion. The first five years of his life a mystery, a hole none have ever been willing to fill, leaving him warped and twisted. His formative years gone and what must've been most of his humanity along with it. Now 17, he is on the cusp of leaving the city he'd never been permitted to leave for what might be the first time in his life. Always searching, though he won't know what for, for some time. An episodic that follows experience and symbolism rather than a never ending series of battles - where the conflict lay in constantly searching for wholeness in lieu of great villains or heroes. This is where it all started, the origin, the tale told a million times - and yet it hadn't been, 'reality' is tricky like that. The greatest lie ever told by the tongue that speaks is that any of this was real at all.
