《I Fight to Return Home》Chapter 7: Elven Blood

Nathan’s vision grew red. In his life as a doctor he took an oath to never do harm to people, and tried to extend that to animals. This was the first time in his life he felt the desire to hurt something for the only reason to harm.
“MARCY!” He yelled charging forward with his spear. The Wolf was too busy shaking Marcilio’s body around trying to finish off his kill.
The spear sunk only a few inches, and the wolf dropped Marcilio and turned back toward Nathan with a growl. Nathan was now weaponless, and was face to face with an Alpha Wolf.
It was almost as large as a car, it’s eyes at the same height as Nathans. The smell of death waffed off its body, and Nathan had only one thing left to do. Run.
The wolf snarled and darted forward, somehow missing Nathan as he dove to the side behind a hay bale. Nathan quickly got up and heard the thong of a metal shovel hitting the Alpha Wolf.
“Hey ugly! Come get me! I was the one who stabbed you!” Nathan waved his hands as he ran away from the beast, trying to get its attention. Either it was luck or bad luck that it did return it’s focus to him.
Nathan put his back to the shed and prepared himself. “Please hurry up El!”
The Alpha Wolf charged forward to Nathan and opened its mouth to try and swallow Nathan in one giant gulp. Nathan closed his eyes, afraid to watch his own death if he messed up. He took a breath and dropped down to the ground. The air escaped as his chest collided with the dirt, and he tasted copper from biting his tongue.
The back two paws of the beast scraped across his back as the beast sailed into the shed. The sound of wood snapping and a deep yell of pain filled the night sky. Nathan scuttled away as fast as he could and blinked as another figure barled right toward him.
Nathan didn’t even have a chance to dodge. Yet it passed him, the fabric of a dress barely touching his face. El had just killed the last wolf, and was now fighting the Alpha Wolf.
He didn’t question if the woman could do it, he just silently hoped she could. Nathan ran to where he saw Marcilio’s body and Nadiel over him.
“Is he breathing?” Nathan asked, going into Doctor mode.
“I-I don’t know. He's dead isn’t he? HE’S DEAD!” Nadiel cried, snot running down his face.
Nathan saw Marcy was missing an arm and winced, but went to check if he was still alive. He put two fingers to his neck and waited.
*bump bump*
“Yes! Don’t you fucking die today you bastard!” Nathan yelled to himself. “Nady, give me your shirt.”
When Nadiel didn’t move, Nathan started to scream at him. “Now or your brother will die and it is YOUR FAULT!”
Nathan started to take his own off and held it to the stump, doing his best to stop the blood flow. “Find me a belt, or some rope. NOW!” Blood was pouring everywhere, causing the ground to turn red.

Nathan took the second shirt and held it to the wound. “Marcy, you better not die. You want to leave your family alone like this huh? You better fight like your mother is right now. You got that Elf blood in you don’t ya? Better be glad you have extra, you are going to need it!”
Nathan took a spare glance to watch El and the Alpha Wolf fight. He saw the two blades were alight with white flames now, El’s body had a few bloody spots. From her own or the wolves blood he had no idea.
When Nadiel returned with rope, he tied it around Marcilio’s arm and made a tourniquet. “Shit I need um, something. Shit, fuck why can’t I be in my surgery room right now!”
Nathan was mad that he knew there was no hospital nearby. Or was there? “Nady, where is the Doctor in Twin Oaks?”
He sniffed. “What?”
“The Priest, the Healer. What building is he in?”
“The one near the Adventures guild, has the giant snake statue out front.” He said between sobs.
Nathan tried to pick up Marcilio but dropped him. “Help me carry your brother. Don’t ask questions, just move!”
Nathan and Nadiel started to move. Once they got on the road, he saw the torch light of Peter and the two young children coming. “Peter! Give Dale to Nady, help me carry Marcilio, Don’t stop to ask questions or HE WILL DIE!”
Peter was far stronger than Nathan gave him credit. He did exactly as Nathan said, putting full faith in the man for the first time. His commanding voice could almost move mountains if the mountain was a new nurse in a hospital.
Peter was able to keep a decent jog as Nathan was behind him. They ran like that for several minutes before they heard another set of feet run after them. Nathan feared it was another wolf, but turning around he saw El.
“My baby boy.” She held his face crying. When she saw his missing arm she started to cry more.
“El! Listen to me” Nathan held her head and looked into her eyes. “He can live, there is a Priest, Doctor, the healer in town right? Help us get him there, he must have the tools to save him right?”
“He would pay us a fortune to save him.”
“You leave that to me, just help us get him there. I’ll do it myself, fuck magic.”
She took a minor glance and determination filled her eyes once again. “Okay, I’ll meet you there,'' she said and took his body. She took off in a sprint toward the city, far outpacing anyone Nathan has ever seen back on his home world.
Peter and Nathn both broke off in a sprint of their own, doing everything they could to get to the town.
The Guard already had the gates opened and didn’t question either of them as they moved. Nathan swore he smelled urine as he went, but didn’t have time to question it.

A trail of blood was illuminated leading them both to the Priests Clinic. Nathan saw the ‘Snake Statue’ was a medicine rod. His smidge of hope grew slightly larger than this man would help them.
Inside Nathan heard two voices arguing.
“And I told you, I know you don’t have the money for the materials. I refuse to heal this point any more than I can do freely.”
“YOU WILL FIX HIM, OR I WILL REMOVE YOUR SPINE AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS!” El roared.
Nathan saw Marcilio on a table, blood dripping out of his body. “Good, moving blood means heart is still pumping, but not for long”
Nathan walked up to who he hoped was the Priest and slapped him. He had a difficult time as the Priest was shorter than him and had a lot of hair on his face. “Are you or are you not a healer? Either you help this boy, with the best of your abilities, or I will take that spine after it’s shoved up your ass and shove it down your throat! Are you not a Doctor good sir? THEN ACT LIKE IT!”
The Priest, who Nathan now realized wasn’t a human at all, but what he learned to be a dwarf. His face turned redder than his beard. “You dare slap a Priest? You are going to jail for-”
Nathan slapped him again. “I am DOCTOR Shultz! If you won’t save him, then I will give me your tools, and not the magical bullshit either. I need something to stop the bleeding, or something to singe his wound close. A fire would do, but would be a last resort.”
Nathan walked over to a basin full of water and started to wipe his hands clean. He noticed all the filth seemed to just evaporate off of his hands as he dunked them in.
“You just put your hands in holy water! It’s tainted! The imposter just ruined that batch!”
El took out a dagger and held it to his neck. “I will give you one more chance, before I cut your beard off your face and give you a clean shave. Then the spine stuff will happen. If that boy dies, you will too. So what will it be? Money, or your life?”
Nathan didn’t wait for an answer. If this water could clean his hands, it will clean the wound for sure. Nathan moved the basic over to Marclio and poured it all over his wound. “Risky situation, risky procedures!” Nathan quoted one of his nurses who was fond of working with him.
The Dwarf tried to say something, but the dagger pressed harder and stopped a single word coming from his voice. He looked up to El and nodded, showing he would save Marcilio. El backed away, but kept her eyes on the back of his head.
“Move Doctor Shultz. I have it from here. Go get the amber stone from the table over there for me, if you want to help some more.” He said with sarcasm.
Nathan didn't question him and handed him the fist sized rock. Taking a deep breath, the Priest pulled out a metal symbol and started to chant words Nathan couldn’t understand.
At first nothing happened, but soon the symbol started to glow. The Priest tapped the rock and it in turn glowed a brilliant golden light. Nathan watched with amazement at what was happening before his eyes.
When the rock made contact with the open flesh of Marcilio’s arm his eyes opened and he started to scream. Nathan took action and went to hold him down. “What the fuck are you doing?”
“You wanted me to save him? This is how we do it at my clinic. This is going to clean, seal, and fix his stub. It won’t regrow it, but this is the best way to ensure all his wounds close and all infection is removed. If we had a basin full of Holy Water, this would be a bit less painful for the boy.” He said looking at Nathan.
Nathan almost felt bad, but if the Priest acted sooner and did his damned job, that could have been avoided. “El, Grab his legs! Peter helped me with his other arm.”
Between the three of them, they could hold Marcilio still for the Priest to finish his work. It felt like hours but in reality was around fifteen minutes before the glow faded away.
The Dwarf’s face was covered in sweat, and the amber rock was half the size it once was. “There, that should do it. His wounds are closed, all infection gone, we just need to wait for him to wake up now.”
Nathan took a step back and winced. His own injuries finally made themselves known. El as well clutched her side where a large dark patch of blood could be seen.
With a sigh, the Priest motioned for both of them to take a seat. “You two will be easy to fix with those minor wounds. Might as well make your debt greater to me, eh?”
Nathan glared at the man, but when a light enveloped him and he felt a burning sensation over his wounds, he could do nothing but try and hold back a scream.
“Healing Magic ain’t all sprinkles and cupcakes. It’s the transfer of mana into health. For those who have yet to Awaken, it’s even more painful.” The Priest explained and then moved to El, who didn’t even flinch from the magic touching her.
Nathan was breathing deeply, and did everything he could to not pass out. After lying there for half an hour, he was able to stand and walk. He moved and flexed his body, astonished at the results.
“Now I really need to learn healing magic. No scar tissue! No pain! Full motion to...everything!” Nathan kept checking himself out, but noticed El and Peter both waiting by Marcilio who was still unconscious.
Nathan saw the Priest was sitting on a nearby bench and made eye contact with him. Nathan pointed to the front door, and walked out hoping he would follow.
