《Slayer of Kings》Chapter 50 - Infiltrating The City

The night was calm as the sky on a normal day. The air remained cold. Trees danced in the wind.
Two figures overlooked a city. It was Leo and Artos.
Artos hid a knife inside his clothes. This would be his way out if he got found. He had no problem killing the people that kidnapped his squad members and almost kidnapped him.
Leo had a secret weapon. Tenebris. But he still kept two daggers with him. He could summon Tenebris anytime. One dagger was for the clone while the other was for him in case of an emergency.
"We both need to split up. Enter from different parts. I don't know if we will meet there or not, but if we meet do not act familiar in case they doubt us or something. Got it?" Artos said. This did not scare him, but taking precautions were necessary because they could stop his powers.
Leo said nothing. He left Artos alone. Why would he ever go talk to Artos? The only reason they even knew each other was because of this mission. Also, he did not plan to return on the next day since he needs to find more information about the power Aldous used.
Leo went to the east side of the city. When he arrived there, the place had four guards. The guards had normal clothes. They had spears on their backs. The spearhead extended above their heads. While the shoe was near their knees. The spears were kept on the guards back using ropes. Two. Both in the stomach region.
It was late into the night. The torches lit up the place. There were two near the entrance where two guards stood. Then two more torches were kept on top of baskets filled with sand. They erected the torches on top of the sand. Two guards stood near these torches. They were towards the side of the gate.
There were also many people sleeping inside the gates. Some in tents many without tents.

There were also more guards across the wooden gates. Torches also lit up the area, but this place had the least guards, but they were concentrated. This will make things difficult.
He needed a distraction. A thought came to his mind. The rock beast. Yes, he could use its carcass as a distraction.
Leo left the city. He rushed towards the pond. Then he followed the direction he had taken. Finally, after fifteen minutes he found the carcass of the beast.
He took less time to reach the pond because the city was close to the pond when compared to the village.
The beast was heavy; he had to cut off a lot of its body using Tenebris. It was hard and time-consuming, but he did it. He cut the beast in half from its stomach. He only took the front part of the beast while he left the other part. Leo took the carcass and moved back to the city.
He needed to position the beast. He would do the same thing the beast did.
He would summon his clone and use its pressure to make the crunching noises. Then, he would sneak into the city. After that, he would summon the clone back.
Leo position the beast behind a bush. It was towards the left of the gate. He then summoned his clone and move away from the area.
Leo then commanded the clone to break twigs and to crunch the fallen leaves. The clone followed his orders.
He had to be quick before the rotten smell of the carcass spreads.
One guard who heard the sound asked his companion. "What is that sound?"
"Huh?" The companion also heard the noise. He had not heard it at first, but now he did.
The guard who heard the noises first untied the rope and took out his spear. "Shit, don't tell me it's a beast attack."
The shaft of the spear was made of wood while the spearhead was made sharpened rock.

His companion used his hand to put the spear down. "Don't rush to a conclusion. You know what happened last time you screamed about a beast attack right?"
Ahh, The first person to hear the noise screamed on the inside. He did not dare to think about it. He could not scream this time.
His companion walked towards the direction of the voice. "Let's go check it out."
They both walked towards the source of the noise.
Leo got ready to sneak into the city. If anything went wrong and people gathered his only option, then would be to blend into the group of people. That was a dangerous plan, so this had to work.
Leo recalled the clone.
The man who heard the noises at the start looked past the bush. There he saw the rock beast. Since it was the night, he did not get a look at its body, but he had seen beasts like this before.
"AHH," The man screamed.
His companion tried to stop, but the man did not listen. "It's a beast attack!" he shouted.
Hearing the shouts the two guards at the entrance and more from the sides came towards the area. With their weapon in hand.
There have been beast attacks before, so they were all ready. Well, some more than others.
"Alert the main guards!" The man shouted once again.
He got a hit on his head. When he looked back, it was his companion. "Shut up, you fool. It is only one beast, right? We can handle it. No need to alert the main guards."
The man's companion along with the others moved towards the bush where they found the beast.
This was his opportunity. There was no one in the area. Ten people who were near the area moved towards the bush. He could not get a better chance than this.
Leo moved. He activated frenzy. His clothes were black which made blending into the darkness easier. Leo picked a patch where light from the torches did not reach.
He made it to the wooden fence. Leo did not stop. He hopped over them. Now, he needs to find a place to hide.
As he thought this. There were two people coming towards him. Both were busy talking with each other. He could not move fast now because there were people sleeping on the ground. He had to find a place to hide for some time. He also could not go into tents as people were sleeping in them.
He needed to find a building, but before that, he had to escape these two people.
Leo was near a tent. He moved towards it. Leo ducked on the opposite side of the tent. The two people walked away from him without seeing him.
Leo looked around. He found many small buildings across the area. He checked them one by one.
Some had people in them while some had weapons, medical supplies, food, and clothes.
He had to change his clothes. The ones he wore differed from the ones the people in the city wore. The clothes they wore were. The materials were of lower quality and they got torn in places. This showed the dire situation of the people in the city.
He had seen this many times before. A revolution was never a good idea. Especially when you are outnumbered and outpowered, but this was not his revolution to fight. He had two goals for coming here. One was repaying Xander. The other was getting information about the power Aldous used.
Leo found a good set of clothes, but he tore them. To make blending in easier. He had to wait until morning. He did not have to sleep as he had taken rest before he came here.
Now, he had to wait.
