《Slayer of Kings》Chapter 19 - Normal Rank Level 1

The Crystal in the center of his chest resonated with his heartbeat as Leo envisioned himself absorbing the water by splitting it into ‘Pure Essence’ and ‘Pure Element’. From the image, he created in his mind the water rose in the shape of a river and moved closer to him. The ‘Pure Essence’ which was dark blue followed the water in the same shape.
When both almost reached Leo the ‘Pure Essence’ twisted around the ‘Pure Element’ and slowly absorb it.
While this was happening inside Leo’s mind in the real world only the ‘Essence’ dark blue with white specs of light rose from the river. It made its way through Leo’s palms and into his body. Leo could feel the mist going through his bones and flesh, but it caused no pain to him. The ‘Essence’ made its way to the center of his chest where lay the Crystal.
The mist revolved around the Crystal. This scene looked exactly like the one that happened when he killed the assassin. This would mean both the mists were the same as they were the ‘Essence’ of water.
The ‘Essence’ got devoured by the Crystal. Leo through his mind could see that the Crystal was filling up.
After five minutes of absorbing the ‘Essence’ the Crystal released another mist by itself. This white mist made its way through his body starting from his heart and lungs to his toes and head. Leo could feel everything that the mist touched increasing in strength. He could also see a faint trace of a line forming on his Crystal however, he did not understand what it was.
Leo guessed what he absorbed was the ‘Essence’ and this new mist was the ‘Pure Essence’ used to increase the power of the body mentioned in the book. With this, it made sense that the Scroll would ask him to split it into ‘Pure Essence’ and ‘Pure Element’ since the ‘Essence’ comprised the two.

So as the ‘Essence’ gets devoured by the Crystal the ‘Pure Element’ gets stored in it for use while the ‘Pure Essence’ goes through his body to increase its power.
It was now that the scroll in his hand shook and left his hand as it floated in front of him. Leo saw symbols forming on his scroll. He could not read them as the symbols were written in another language. The writing on the scroll disappeared and got replaced by these symbols which combined to form the shape of an ocean.
Leo had stopped absorbing as this happened he wanted to know what the ‘Enchantment’ mentioned in the scroll was he did not have to activate it as the ‘Enchantment‘ automatically activated itself which was a good thing as he did not have to try various methods. The symbols in the Crystal then broke apart as they ascended from the scroll, then shot straight through his chest and into the Crystal.
The Crystal shook as the broken symbols went inside it after twenty seconds there were no symbols remaining. The writing appeared on the scroll once again. Leo caught the scroll as it fell.
Leo finally saw what the ‘Enchantment’ mentioned by the scroll was, however, he felt no difference in his body.
After another fifteen minutes passed the Crystal shook. The ‘Essence’ around it spun faster. Then the ‘Essence’ inside his Crystal exploded. It was like a star had exploded, however, this explosion was way less destructive. This explosion made its way through his body Leo felt everything that the explosion touched rapidly increasing in strength.
After it cleared, he saw a horizontal and vertical line on his Crystal that combined to form a plus sign. Does this represent my power? Leo thought. If that was the case, then the vertical line should represent his rank while the horizontal represents his level since vertical is moving upwards, which means a rise in power while horizontal is moving sidewards which could be taken as a subdivision to the rise in power.

So this would mean that he is at Normal Rank Level 1.
Leo did not stop absorbing the ‘Essence’ even after reaching the new rank. He could feel the increase in power throughout his body, but he also knew this was far from where Cao was if he were to run into Cao once again there would be no escape like last time. Leo did not understand how he had escaped last time the only thing he remembered just before his consciousness faded was a strange symbol in front of him however his eyes were too blurry to see the symbol properly.
Leo wanted to find out more about the symbol, but he did not understand how to trigger the symbol. He also wanted to know how the symbol got into his body as when he got teleported back to his inn he saw two thick lines like tattoos on his hand.
Leo laid out his hands with his palms open, then he pulled out the ‘Pure Element’ which is water from within the Crystal. As he did this, the water came out of his palm. The amount of water coming out was less, and it lacked any power to it so Leo increased the pull which in turn increased the amount of water coming out from his palm.
Leo then thought the shape of a shield in his mind, he then broke the shield into its atomic form then he also broke the water into its atomic form after that he combined the two. All this happened in his mind and not the real world, however, in the real world a circular shield formed in front of Leo. The shield covered his chest and stomach but was not big enough to cover his entire body. The water which made the shield looked exactly like the water from the river. This made sense because it was from the river that Leo absorbed the water, hence the shield looked like it.
Leo doubted if it could defend against anything but if he could increase the pressure, then it would be helpful.
Leo closed his eyes as he tried to increase the size of the shield. It started out fine as the shield grew bigger, but then the pressure placed on his mind from maintaining the shield increased by a lot which made it break apart and fall back to where it came from.

8 81Cinder Roots (Undergoing a Rewrite)
This novel is currently undergoing a major rewrite, as I noticed several plot points that needed to be revamped. I'll leave the chapters I've posted here to anyone curious to see how everything started, but I'll be posting the rewritten story as a new novel in the future. The characters will be the same, but the journey will be more understandable and hopefully, a lot more fun to read. -------- First, everything was fire, it killed, it consumed, and it gave him life. He was just a tree, born in the biggest forest that remained in the world, full of dryads, naiads, elves and treants, but he was alone. He couldn’t see. He couldn’t talk. Curiosity plagued him. He dreamed of wandering the land, but could only wonder what stood outside the reach of his roots. The tree was tired of waiting. He decided to not just dream, but to act. How could he survive against a invading empire, a grand conspiracy that threatened to shake the foundations of the world, and the raw danger that lies within these woods? With pure determination. Warning - There are quite a few POV changes in the first chapters, but that'll change after the introduction is done, as I'll be focusing on the MC perspective only.
