《Slayer of Kings》Chapter 17 - Water Techniques

Chatter and yelling rang inside the room. The sunlight crept into it as the hot wind blew open the dark brown curtains.
Waking up from his sleep, Leo sat on the bed as he stretched. The wound in his arm had almost fully healed while the pain disappeared.
Knock Knock.
His door sounded as soon as he got up onto his feet. Who could it be? Leo wondered as he opened the door.
A man stood in front of Leo with one arm missing wearing a black coat. His body was tall and well built. The man carried with him a package "Take this it's from Sir Gerard meet me down in 10," Said the man as he pushed the package into Leo's hand who caught it. The man left using the staircase, leaving Leo clueless.
Who was that? Wondered Leo the man said this package was from Gerard what would Gerard have to send him? Leo went back to his room as he closed the door.
In it were three pairs of clothes one grey the other brown while the last was black placed in a stack. On the top, there were 2 silver coins with 100 written on them for 200 silver.
These were things that Leo needed as right now he was short on money and had no extra pair of clothes. He kept the stack and money on his bed as he went into the bathroom to have a bath. After returning, he wore the grey dress. It was a little big for him but there was no other issue.
When the door to the building opened Leo saw the one-armed man in front. Right now the man was talking to another person, but when he saw Leo the man said farewell as he walked towards Leo.

"Follow me," The man said as he walked away from Leo who soon followed.
It was still early in the morning people still set up the shops unlike the village, Leo saw no one selling things in carts but he wasn't sure if they would appear as the day progressed. The workers near the town gate were loading up the carts pulled by horses Leo's best guess was that they were good to sell in Rynce City.
After 15 minutes of walking Leo and the one-armed man reached an old and worn out building. It had cracks all over it and looked like it could fall apart any moment. This was a deserted part of the town as the neighboring buildings were also similar to this house.
The man pushed the door open after turning the lock with a key, but Leo did not understand why the man did this because looking at the condition of the building a kick was enough to open the door so anyone could get inside which defeats the purpose of having a lock.
The wooden door had two metal bars that ran from its left to right. The inside was like a cave and filled with webs, but these webs didn't belong to spiders rather another creature. It had two eyes on its head and four long legs like a spider while the body was long like a caterpillar. The creatures didn't move even when they entered the house. These creatures fascinated Leo.
The man went near the only bed in the house and pushed it with his one arm easily moving it. Leo could now confirm this man was a magic user as a normal human could not push the bed so easily.
There was nothing out of the ordinary about the wooden floor after the bed moved, however, the man bent down and drew a pattern with the tip of his finger on the floor where the bed once stood. The area lit up with white light to form a big symbol Leo had never seen before. The man then pushed the tip of his finger into the floor with even more force and then pulled it back. The part where the symbol lit up broke from the rest and came out attached to his fingertip.

The opening revealed a dark staircase that led into the ground. As soon as the man placed his feet onto the staircase, the sides lit up with torches that burned with bright flames illuminating the staircase.
Leo followed the man into the staircase after 15 steps they reached the bottom.
It was another room lit up by torches on the walls rather than windows. It had countless scrolls and weapons of all sorts scattered across the floor some were on top of tables as old as the house.
The man looked like he was searching for something in the pile of scrolls. After 2 minutes of searching, he brought two scrolls to Leo.
Two of them looked identical with two brown wooden knobs, sticking out from the top and bottom. The knobs had chamfered edges to them and carvings. A light blue thread which circled the scroll kept it from opening. When Leo held them they made his Crystal shake lightly.
"It's normal for it to react like that as the scrolls belong to the water element," Said the man as he brought another scroll to Leo.
This scroll unlike the other two only had one handle which had a darker color than the other two. It had the same design as the other scrolls like the chamfered edges and carvings on the knobs. This one had two light blue threads that circled it. The shake created by this scroll was greater when compared to the other two. From the look of it, anyone could tell this scroll and the other two were different.
"The first two are spell scrolls 'Water of Deception' and 'Frenzy of The East River' while this one is a manual called 'Atomic Water Manual'." Said the man looking at three scrolls in Leo's hands. "I would let you choose but the other techniques are bad and not of any use." Saying this the man walked toward the stairs.
But when he got near Leo, the man kept his arm on Leo's shoulder and whispered "Do not disappoint or it will cost your life," After saying this he went to the stairs.
It was not a threat Leo knew that. It was like a warning, but from whom? Was it those four? It had a high chance to be them as four of them did not like Leo.
