《The Chronicle of a Witch》Chapter 45 A Powerful Ally?

“Say, the Goblins are running away from something, aren’t they?” Donald asked as he slashed the Goblin that abruptly appeared from the corner. He noticed that the Goblins were running away frantically as it was the sixth Goblin he killed in this way. And the deeper they went, the clearer they heard the heavy thuds.

“Let’s see what’s that,” Zero said as he ran forward. The others followed him immediately. They were only on the second floor and they never heard heavy thuds like this on the second floor. So, curiosity took over their reasons and they ran to see what caused those heavy thuds.

When they got closer, they heard a laugh, the familiar laugh along with the heavy thuds. Brian, Zero, and Donald looked at each other and smiled wryly. The others didn’t understand, as they looked at them questioningly.

“If my guess is correct, we will have a powerful ally soon,” Donald said with a smile at the others.

And when they turned in the corner, they saw it. Metal Golem. Its height was approximately three meters. Its width was around two meters. It was a gigantic Golem, but more importantly, the person who sat on top of the Golem.

It was a familiar figure for all of them. It was a beautiful and elegant girl that could always fit in any paintings… cough, that was me, naturally. I was too happy with what I got, so, I laughed happily. Not to mention the darkness and the Goblins drove me crazy before I got this Steel Golem, so now, I vented to the Goblins while laughing maniacally.

And when I saw Zero and the others…

“Hm? Oh, who might you guys be? Are you guys Players? Well, don’t you think the weather is nice today? The sky sure is beautiful, don’t you think so?”

Yep, I just acted as if I didn’t know any of them! I didn’t have Slimerin with me so I was currently not in disguise at all. In addition to that, the Steel Golem glowed so they could see me completely though. I wondered why it glowed like this when I turned it on earlier… perhaps it was so the others could see my embarrassing state?

“What are you doing, Fey?” Zero asked calmly.

“F-Fey? Wh-who is that? My name is Fey… Fey-not! Yep, I must be similar to that person you called Fey. Even our name is similar! Ahahaha!”

Uwaaah, I’m doing something extra embarrassing there!!!

“…”

See! They are stunned! Should I continue feigning ignorance? But it was too embarrassing!

“Cough, actually, I am Fey, but I am possessed by the spirits of the Goddess of Ice, no, no, sorry, don’t glare at me like that, it’s actually me, Fey.” I stopped making excuses when the God of Thunder glared at me when I mentioned her sister’s name. His glare was actually producing electricity, just like the intense spark of lightning between two glaring people in movies. Except, it was a one-directional spark. Also, it was the real electricity he emitted, so I immediately stopped making excuses.

“Alright, let’s be serious.” I cleared my throat one more time. Let’s ignore a voice calling me the only one that was not serious the entire time, alright?

“About the silly G... girl, I actually know where she is and she is safe at the moment. She uses, I don’t know, a seal of ice? Something like that. So, as long as she is sealed in that ice, she should be safe. As for actually saving her...”

I paused and looked at the eight people in front of me. They surely were brave, though I had to say they didn’t use their brain well. How could eight people save that silly Goddess from a Goblin-infested Dungeon?

I sighed and looked at the silent God. His eyes were full of defiance, and I knew to say that saving the silly Goddess by them and them alone was a suicide wouldn’t stop him from trying. I had to tell him that I had a method to save her.

“Alright, stop glaring at me. I know how to save her, but we need all the help we can get. I’ll teach you how to control the Golems inside the Dungeon. Fortunately, those Goblins are not bright enough to understand how to control the Golems...” I paused as someone interrupted me.

“Neither do we, I think.” It was Zero. I unintentionally mocked them while mocking the Goblins. And Zero pointed it out.

“Cough, anyway, how about it? Imagine a party of Adventurers or Players has a single Steel Golem. I believe there are hundreds if not thousands of Golems in this Dungeon. Or even more! What do you think? Do you think the Adventurers and Players will help us if we have that method? Oh, by the way, I also know where we can find that girl. You know, the Golems have the entire map of the Dungeon. But I’m not going to tell you unless we have a foolproof plan to save her, alright?”

Brian nodded and the others decided to use my plan. So, now, we were going to return to the nearest town, Bashura. In addition to that, we could hear footsteps from far away and we believed they were Goblins' footsteps, so I urged the others to retreat immediately.

“Let’s go! Steely Mk I, lead the way!” I ordered the Steel Golem and it started running toward the exit of the Dungeon. The others immediately followed me and Steely. Zero was running right beside me, and I didn’t know how but he still had breath to talk with me.

“Steely Mk I? Your naming sense is horrible.” He snickered while running.

“Shut up. It’s better than you, whose nickname is Zero because of... wait, what? You want to zero enemies’ HP?” I chortled mockingly.

“Hmph! You are lucky it is a Steel Golem. If what you found is an Iron Golem, what would you call it? Irony?” He snorted.

“Of course... not!” I almost fell to his trap! Iron Golem? If that were the case, I’d call it... ugh, Ironee? Iron-chan Mk I? No, Ferrum? Yeah, Ferrum’s cool. But not Irony, though Irony was not that bad either. Speaking of Ferrum, I heard that blood had a lot of them. And speaking of blood, I could only imagine a steak. Rare. Alright, medium-rare. And when I was thinking that, my stomach growled angrily, as if telling my brain to stop thinking about food, something that I hadn’t eaten ever since I tried the charred Goblin’s meat.

Embarrassingly, the man beside me heard it as well. He smiled, no, not a smile, he grinned at me. He took out something from his bag and tossed it to me. It was an apple. Well, an equivalent of apple in this world. But let’s call it an apple.

I stared at him suspiciously. Why would he give me an apple abruptly?

“What? You don’t want it? Just toss them away. That is a bait for Goblins actually.” Zero shrugged.

What... a waste! It was such a nice apple, red and fresh, and he used it as a Goblin’s bait!? How disrespectful!

“You shouldn’t waste food like that, you know? Rather than giving them to the Goblins, why don’t you let me use them for something more, um, well, more productive?” Like feeding me, for example. I didn't know which part of feeding me was productive though.

“Yeah, yeah, I’ll give them to you later, after you eat what’s in your hand first.” He shrugged.

Well, that was reasonable, so I started nibbling at the apple. Now then, let’s talk about the other things as well. For example, while running, Steely Mk I had killed two Goblins that appeared from a corner of the Dungeon. Also, it seemed, besides Zero and the silent God, everyone else was out of breath. It seemed that Zero was quite unique, huh?

As we reached the entrance of the Dungeon, I noticed something bad. Well, it was bad for me, not for the others. Clouds. Blue skies. Bright sun. Yep, it was an open sky. I immediately ordered the Golem to stop as my sweat started coming out. It seemed my fears of the open sky still hadn’t cured even though I lived well in the Royal Capital.

Now, what should I do? I couldn’t embarrass me more by telling others that I was afraid of the open sky, could I? I looked behind me and saw the others following close behind. Alright, let’s play it cool.

“You guys, go ahead! I’ll hold back the Goblins here!” I ordered Steely Mk I to stop running and turned around. I remembered a similar scene in a movie that I watched a long time ago. It was when a wizard in grey stood between his small friends and the giant demon. He blocked the giant demon's path to his friends. And he shouted loudly. 'You! shall not! pass!'

Thinking that doing such a thing would be cool, I opened my mouth and shouted at the Goblins behind us. However, before I could do that, someone grabbed me and pulled me down from Steely Mk I. I froze up and couldn’t react until I saw his face grinning at me.

“I know you’d do something like that. Don’t worry about the Goblins, just ask your golem to follow us from behind! Oh, and also, close your eyes and grab me tightly!” Zero grinned as he princess-carried me. I did what he said subconsciously. I couldn’t think at all, so I did it without thinking.

Also, I couldn’t see anything, but I could hear the cacophony of screams and explosion from behind us. It seemed the Goblins were really chasing us, and moreover, some of them were Goblin Mages. Honestly speaking, Steely Mk I was quite overpowered against normal Goblins, and it was still stronger than the typical Hobgoblin. If, well, if it were a one-on-one. But Goblins rarely fought one-on-one, unless you could ambush them. So, Steely Mk I would be definitely destroyed, especially if it had to cover us from the bombardments of the Goblin Mages. It was such a waste, so I recalled it and ordered it to follow us.

They didn’t chase us far, however. I didn’t know why, but it seemed the Goblins didn’t want to be away from the Dungeon without forming a formation to attack a city. I could only guess that if the Goblins were similar to Dungeon’s monsters, they could sustain themselves by using the Dungeon’s natural Mana. If they were outside of the Dungeon, they would need food, something that became a luxury for them.

“Alright, we’re almost there!” Someone shouted excitedly.

In that way, we returned to the city. When we almost reached the gate, I heard commotions. Well, they were shouting loudly, so I naturally heard it. What they shouted, however, caused me to cry inside.

“Ah! What is that? Metal Goblin? Look it must be chasing after them! What do we do, Captain?”

“We have to protect our fellow comrades! Kill that metallic monster! Be careful! Don’t hit the Players!”

“Sir, yes Sir!”

I opened my eyes abruptly and saw myriad Spells flew towards Steely Mk I. Because the Golem was different than my Familiars, I could only command it by voice, so it couldn’t do complex command at all. So, when countless Magic almost hit the Golem, I could only say something like, “Roll to the right!” or “Jump!”. I didn’t even have a chance to tell them that it was a good Golem…

There was a limit on how long the Golem could avoid though. After it rolled left, jumped right, rolled forward, lying prone to the ground, hopped forward and did all the acrobatic things that none of the robots on Earth could probably do, some Spells hit it.

“Steely Mk I!!!!!” I shouted, but the Steely Mk I didn’t respond anymore. It seemed that it broke when several Spells hit its head. Although it was strong enough to endure Goblin Mages’ Magic, it couldn’t endure human’s Magic, huh?

...goodbye, Steely Mk I, I won’t forget your courage when you stopped in front of the Dungeon and shouted ‘You shall not pass!’ to the Goblins...
