《Reborn In A Cursed World》Chapter 4

"Are you alright madam?"
It's the old man with the silver bar across his face. He helps my mother to her feet and looks at me with surprise.
"Y-yes, what just happened? And who are you?"
My mother's face is pale and is slightly trembling.
"I am Benjamin Walkins, A senior officer of the Crystallyn Organisation. And I believe that Collin over here just lost control of his gift"
The silver wall dissipates into small silver particles and the devastation reveals itself.
Black crystal pillars with sharp tips jutting out of the floor and walls. Some pillars stand menacingly, some stabbed into appliances or furniture.
The bookshelf was untouched, it stood pristine with not a scratch on it.
"Madam, please calm down. Take a deep breath"
A few seconds pass by as my mother takes a few deep breaths.
"Crystallyn like Collin, sometimes lose control and their ability goes out of control due to emotional distress."
"w-what's going to happen now?? Is Collin going to be taken away from me?"
My mother holds me tighter, unwilling to let anyone take me away.
"That won't happen, all Crystallyn need their mothers, or else they risk becoming dangers to everyone around them"
He walks over to a pillar and places his hand on it
"Without you there, these crystals would have kept growing. They would have grown like a tumor until Collin calmed down, or was put down."
"Put down? They would have killed my baby?!"
My mother was hysterical when she realized that these people would kill even babies if they were dangerous enough.
"Only if they couldn't or wouldn't stop, no matter how valuable each crystallyn is. If they risk being a danger to the people then they must be.... put down."
Exhaustion then hits me like a hammer, I fall asleep as I see Benjamin say something else to my mother.

(Third POV)
Evelyn walked past the destruction as she holds her child in her arms.
Collin had caused all of this, but she couldn't bring herself to blame him. He was her only child, and she was his mother.
"Madam, if you want, we can monitor Collin for a while until you feel comfortable taking care of him"
Benjamin was extremely comforting and accommodating as he escorted the mother and child past the rubble and debris.
"No, my son stays with me"
Benjamin had a slight smile as he heard her response.
"Of course, but we should get you and Collin checked out first"
They step out of the house and leave the destroyed house behind.
Benjamin drove Evelyn to the crystallyn headquarters
As they leave a shadowy figure steps out behind a particularly thick pillar of crystal.
"Your brother has potential"
Another figure steps out, a young child who has blonde hair and blue eyes
"I have no brother, Master. And he is weak"
Disdain drips from his voice
"Liam, you were weak. I saved you when I realized that your parents could never realize the potential you held"
"But Master he-"
"No buts, we must get ready for their arrival"
The "Master" dashes off as Liam hesitates
He looks at the black pillars before placing his hands on one, the crystal reflecting his appearance.
Woong
The entire pillar disappears as if it was never there, leaving a large hole in the ground.
"Potential? He's just a normal Crystallyn"
Hate fills his eyes as he dashes off, following his master

(Third Pov)
Benjamin walks through the long white hallway of the Crystallyn Organization.
He reaches a large metal door, he places his hand on the panel in the middle of the door.
Beep! Whoosh
Air leaks out as Benjamin steps into the main control room
"Sir!" Jones greets Benjamin before briefing him on their findings

"Collin and his mother have settled down in room 4B. We are monitoring any spikes in cursed energy from him"
"Good, and the results from the lab?"
"The black crystals seem to be an enhanced form of normal crystals. They are 4 times stronger than diamonds. There's also an unknown element that we are unable to determine the purpose of."
"Hmmm, What's the purity of his cursed energy?"
"Its 95%, Sir"
Benjamin looks at a monitor showing Collin sleeping in a crib.
A baby with 95% energy purity, Insane.
"Jones, get Squad 9 to watch over the family. Make sure they are unnoticed. I want anyone and anything getting close to that family to be eliminated if they are dangerous."
"Yes Sir!"
______________________________________________________________________________________
(First Pov)
I wake up in a white crib. My memories are hazy but I remember the destruction and the anger.
"Oh, your awake!" My mother picks me up and starts to breastfeed me
While it feels weird to be breastfed, my guilt of almost harming her fills me.
She puts me down and a few minutes pass until my father bursts through the door
"Leon?"
My father rushes in looking disheveled and pale.
"I thought I lost you and Collin."
He runs over and hugs her, tears running down his face
"They didn't tell me anything. When I saw the house I thought, I thought"
"I thought I lost both of you"
They hugged each other as my father cried
"Don't worry, I'm not going to die that early."
My mother comforts my father until he calms down. They both sit down at the table and talk about what happened.
I watch as the look on my father turns from sadness to disbelief. He looks me in the eyes and I see conflict in his eyes. It lasted for a moment before something akin to guilt appeared.
He looks away before getting up. He walks over, picks me up, and brings me over to the table.
He cradles me in his arms
"Collin, you are a man, you have to protect your mother ok? Promise me that"
"Ah!" I gave a little nod, not expecting the reaction that I was going to get
"Oh my god!"
"Did you see that?"
They both freak out and start smiling like maniacs
"My little boy is a genius! Hahaha!"
My father was very quickly smacked by my mother
"My little boy?"
She glares at him causing him to shrink his neck and correct his statement
"Our little boy"
His meek smile barely satisfied my mother. They both start smiling and look at me with love and joy.
In this life, I don't want to mess it up again. I don't know why I was reborn, but this is my life and my family.
And I won't let anything take this away from me.

(Third Pov)
Some time passes by, the Merian household has been completely repaired. If one were to look at it, no one would be able to tell the destruction that happened here.
Collin is sleeping peacefully in his crib and completely ignorant of his parent's current predicament.
His parents are currently worrying over...
Collins's First Birthday!
"Honey, how about we make the theme black? Since he's a black crystallyn after all"
"Leon sweety, Collin's first birthday will not be a funeral themed party"
They go back and forth before settling on a mix of Black, Blue, and White. But the hard decisions are just starting
"Who should we invite?" Evelyns questions stump the both of them.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.
