《Real》Chapter 28(2): When the Rabbit Became a Hunter

Within the abandoned house, Jenny, Sofia, and Michael are discussing about the things that they should do. Their original goal was to go to Carissa Residences and visit Gabriel, but in their current situation, they wouldn't be able to do that easily. From what Sofia and Michael said, the syndicate pursuing Jenny are now more alert and desperate. They mobilized the gangs and other small groups just to recapture Jenny.
To be honest, their action confused Sofia and Michael.
The two already have some ideas why the syndicate wanted Jenny. But no matter how they thought about it, they couldn't understand why they're expending too much effort just for a little girl. No matter how perverted they were, doing this was way too excessive.
Looking at Jenny, Sofia softly asked.
"Do we still go to Carissa Residences?"
Jenny paused a little, and stayed quiet for a couple of seconds.
"If you really want to, I'd accompany you there." Sofia gently added.
"No, lets not. I don't want to trouble him." said Jenny with bitter smile on her face. "I'm already troubling the two of you..."
"Jenny--" Sofia was about to comfort her when Michael suddenly cut in.
"That's right." He said. "With this kind of trouble, we shouldn't involve normal people."
"You," Sofia glared at Michael. "Shut up."
Michael smiled bitterly and looked at the two girls.
"I'm just saying the truth. Besides, this Gabriel you're talking about wont be able to help us even if he wanted to. Unless of course, he's a cultivator like us."
"From the informations I got, he IS a cultivator."
"Oh yeah?" Michael raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Is he an Alpha like you? If he is, then he really is qualified to help us."
Sofia stopped for a couple seconds, then averted her eyes away.
"... two meridians." she said softly.
Hearing this, Michael sighed.
Its not that he's being arrogant or looking down on cultivators with two meridians unlocked. Its just that in their current situations, this kind of meager strength would really not do anything to help them. In truth, people who unlocked their two meridians are mostly only comparable to the people who trained and became the world's best athletes. Yes, athletes. If anything, they would only be a little bit stronger than those athletes. But even so, in front of numerous gang members, syndicate and other people with guns--- these kind of cultivators would only die early.
"Anyway," Sofia looked at Jenny and silently ignored Michael. "If you really want to see--"
"No, its fine." Jenny said.
Looking at her nanny who kept helping her repeatedly, Jenny felt thankful and guilty at the same time. Even though she couldn't understand what they were talking earlier, she knew they were mostly concern about her safety. These two who aren't even her blood related, are helping her because of their goodwill. But she knows this isn't good.
Thinking about it, Jenny would always ask for help every time she encounters trouble or a problem. And since she's a child, people are doing their best to help her. But this isn't right.
Because she kept asking help, because she kept showing her weak-side, because she kept acting like a victim, because she kept letting people help her---- people around her are taking the bullets, instead of her. While she was safe, the people who were helping her are getting in trouble. Even though she didn't want to admit it, deep down she knows that--- she's just a spoiled brat.

A type of kids she hated the most, the type of kids she didn't want to associate with--- the type of girl she really was.
Smiling sweetly, Jenny looked at the two of them and said, "thank you".
"I don't want to burden you anymore." she added. "So you don't have to worry about me, let's prioritize our safety first."
Hearing this, Michael smiled.
"Smart girl."
After that, their discussion continued and they talked about their next plan.
Michael suggested that they should try asking the police for help since they're experts in this kind of cases. But Sofia frowned and said they shouldn't trust the police since they might be accomplice of that syndicate, and the guy that wanted Jenny's company. When Michael heard that, he exasperated told them that they should stop taking the movies seriously. Police aren't that corrupted, and in reality police are there to help civilians. As the two continue to argue, they heard a loud grumble and both of them stopped. Looking at Jenny's direction, they saw her embarrasedly covering her tummy with her hands.
Seeing this, the two smiled, giggled a little and decided to eat first.
Jenny was being hunted down by a lot of people, so she couldn't go out. And since Sofia don't trust Michael, she wouldn't leave Jenny alone with him. So in the end, it was Michael who was forced to buy their afternoon lunch/dinner. After that, they ate and decided to pass their night here. The two girls sat together a little bit away from Michael, and while Jenny sleep, Sofia stood guard and quietly started cultivating. Even though Sofia was guarded against him, Michael didn't mind. He also quietly sat in the corner and started cultivating.
By midnight, Michael stood up and walked towards the huge space and started doing the martial arts of Thousand Hardening Body Refinement. Sofia noticed this and became even more guarded. As the two continuing their own cultivation, they noticed Jenny's figure started flickering like a glitch.
When they saw this, they were both shocked and confused. Immediately, they moved closer to her and tried to protect her. Sofia reached out her hand and tried touching Jenny, but sadly, she only felt the static and her hand went through her body. Shocked, she tried to think of a way to stop what's happening, but before she could do anything, the glitch became even stronger and even created some static sounds.
Then, in a blink of an eye, Jenny disappeared.
-------
August 28, wednesday.
Early in the morning, when Jenny opened her eyes she found out that she was alone sleeping beside the trashes and garbages in a backalley. Different plastics filled with trashes are silently lined up layer by layer. And some of the plastics have holes in it and are being infested by some rats, ants, and some flies that buzzed repeatedly as they devour some leftovers they found. The whole place stinks, and when Jenny woke up seeing this, she immediately bolted up and stood away from the dumpster and other garbages.
Looking around, Jenny tried to stay calm and started thinking on what she should do now. Even though confused and slightly scared, she have no choice but to start moving--- as nothing would happen if she stayed holed up here.
Getting out of the backalley, she found herself in a place that she was not familiar with. This made her even more nervous, but she still decided to move on. She already promised that she wouldn't trouble anyone anymore, and would try her best to to solve her problem on her own. She would depend on herself and try to change her ways.

The city was already lively as the sun is shining above the sky.
The stores and other establishments are already open and people are coming in and out of it. People are walking beside the roads, and different private and public vehicles are constantly making noises everywhere. Within this chaotic and busy city, Jenny walked around and tried to find her way home. But this action proved to be useless as she accomplished absolutely nothing. So, instead of walking around aimlessly, she decided to take Michael's advice and look for a police station to ask for their assistance.
After she asked a few people she bumped on the road, she found out that the police station isn't that far away from where she was standing. So without hesitation, she started walking.
While walking, she noticed some men with tattoos looking at her furtively, and would sometimes point at her then look at their phones. This made Jenny alert so she started walking even faster. When she noticed that the group of men are following her, she started running and tried to lose them. She was planning on continuing running in a most populated road as she believes these men would never do anything in broad daylight in front of many people.
However, she underestimated these men's capabilities. When she started running, the group of men immediately bolted out and followed her closely. If she ran, they'd ran-- and if she walked, they'd walk.
Seeing this, Jenny became even more nervous as she realized that these men wouldn't let her off easily. Looking around the people walking around her, she suddenly thought of a plan to stop her pursuers. Immediately, she bolted out and started running fast, and when she noticed that those men are also running, Jenny started screaming hysterically.
"Help! Help! They're trying to kidnap me!" then she pointed towards the men who's following her from behind.
The whole place instantly became silent as all the people stopped what they were doing, and focused their attention towards the girl who's running and screaming hysterically. Looking at where she was pointing, they saw a group of scary looking men running and following her from behind. And it was really obvious that they meant harm.
Immediately, the whole place buzzed and the people stirred.
The sudden action of the girl caused the group of men to paused, and hesitated for a couple of seconds.
At this time, Jenny used this opportunity to start running even faster. And since she already achieved her goal, she sidestep her way towards the backalley to lose those who are following her and the attention focused on her. A few turns later, she found herself in a dead end.
Sighing slightly, she was about to turned back, when she suddenly found a normal looking guy standing behind her and looking at her weirdly. The guy was blocking the way so Jenny couldn't move forward, and from the way the guy looked at her, she knows that he wouldn't let her go easily.
"You're Jenny, right?" the guy smiled smugly.
She didn't answer and just stepped back.
"You're quite a kid, do you know that?" as he said this, he started walking closer to Jenny. "Forcing a huge syndicate to send a lot of people just look for you. Do you know how famous you are right now?"
Jenny started backing away while alertly looking at the guy. Tud, without her noticing, she was already forced in a corner, and her back already touched the wall.
"Stop this already and just follow me quietly." he smiled and stopped a few step in front of her. "Don't make it difficult for me, okay? I don't wanna hurt a kid."
Gritting her teeth, Jenny couldn't do anything except glare at that man.
These past few days, she felt like fate was toying with her real hard. Bad things kept happening. She could only stay passive and let the world smack her in the face repeatedly. She was already sick of it, and she hates herself for being weak that she couldn't even control her own life.
Breathing heavily, she felt her eyes watering but she stopped herself. When she promised that she would depend on herself, she also promised that she would never cry that easily. Specially in front of the fckers who always want to ruin her life.
Seeing Jenny glaring at her, the guy giggled, lifted up his shirt and showed a knife.
"Behave kid, we don't want things to get bloody."
Walking closer, he stretched his hand and grabbed Jenny's wrist. When he saw that Jenny didn't fight, he secretly sighed in relief. However, before he could even smile cheerfully, Jenny's free hand instantly grabbed the knife under his shirt and forcefully stabbed him in the stomach! Cringing hard because of the sudden pain, the guy punched Jenny in the face and she was slammed hard on the wall!
Laid down on the ground, she felt dizzy like the world was spinning. But even so, she tried her best to suppress it and continued glaring at the man. Picking up stones, she threw it with all her strength to his face, chest, his stomach, his groin, and other parts of his body. When she have no stones to throw, and her vision started to clear, she immediately stood up and rammed herself into that guy's bleeding body. Then, she pulled the knife and stabbed him again in the chest! This time the guy was able to barely stop the knife, but even so, a few inches of it managed to enter and made his chest bleed.
The man grabbed Jenny's arm and gripped it hard to the point that she felt like her muscles are being torn apart. However, before she could even utter a sound, the guy already lifted her up and was thrown on the wall like ragged doll! Bam!
Feeling her head dizzy again, she lifted her head only to feel something dripping from her forehead. When she touched it, she saw blood continued dripping out of the place where she was injured at school. This time though, the wound became even bigger after the collision with the wall. Even though she wanted to take care of her wound, sadly, she didn't really have time for that.
Standing up, she glared at the man in front of her.
Even though the guy was still standing, the way he pressed his stomach where the blood continued to ooze out was the proof that he wont last long. Immediately, Jenny bolted out in the opening and tried to escape! The guy moved slow and didn't manage to stop her. Still, when Jenny was behind of the guy, instead of running away, she instead kicked the back of the knee and made him off balance. Then she picked up a huge stone and smashed it on his head! She didn't stop there though.
With her trembling hands, she picked up the knife that the guy dropped and gripped it hard. Then, she stabbed the guy from behind, then stabbed him again, and again, and again, and again-- she continued stabbing the guy until she noticed that the guy wasn't moving anymore.
Only then she woke up and saw her hands red with blood. With a trembling hands, she dropped the knife and bolted away from the body. Sitting on the ground not far away, Jenny's breathing became ragged and her body kept trembling like she was suppressing something. Her eyes are wet, but her tears didn't fall.
Trying to calm her breathing, she glared at the man and started standing up. Even though she felt like throwing up, she held it in and tried to look at the body with clear eyes. When she saw the blood coming out, she felt terrible and her knees started to gave out. But even so, she looked at it with a fire of determination in her eyes. Even though she felt terribly guilty, she continued to hypnotize herself that these people deserved it.
These people killed her parents after all.
After a while, with a trembling body, she walked away of the back alley and continued towards the police station.
-------
When Jenny arrived at the at the police station, all the police there was shocked and stirred about what they learned. Immediately, she was held under their custody, and the police sent people to investigate about what took place in that back alley. Since she's young, they didn't treat her that bad. And because she has a reason for her actions, they tried to calm her down instead. Of course, everything is still under investigation.
A subject of repeated case of kidnapping, the involvement of one of the biggest and most influential syndicate in the country, a girl who just lost her parents, and a girl who committed murder. All of these are centered on her, Jenny. This made the authorities realized that there must be some things going on.
In a ward, in the corner of the police station, Jenny watches the police work and take care of their own things. While she's doing that, she's eating some fried rice with some side dishes, and quietly enjoying her breakfast/lunch. Her hands are already clean without blood, and the injury on her head was already fixed (well, not exactly, but at least its not bleeding anymore). Even though she's still quite dirty as a whole, the police gave her a clean towel which she could use to temporary clean herself. She only needed to wait for the decisions of the police so she could go home.
At least that's what they said.
In truth, with this kind of incident, it would be hard to say if a child could really go home that easily. As the authorities would have to do many things, and she would probably be forced to attend some stuffs and tests, which would really take a while to finish.
Well, with this kind of incident, it would be hard for her to ever have a normal life.
Gulping down to the very last rice, Jenny looked around and quietly sat down on her chair while thinking about everything that just happened.
Now that she had calm down, the image and every moment of how she killed that guy became clear and even more imposing. The very feeling of the knife cutting his flesh and imbedding it to his body was very clear in her mind. Still, the current Jenny didn't feel much trouble compared to before.
Although she felt a little scared and nervous, disgusted and slightly nauseous--- the tone of her mind is already different. Sympathy and guilt has been thrown away, and it now only sing a song of determination. What she did was normal, and that guy deserved to die.
As her mind was wondering around, her ears continued twitching as she listen to every informations she could get.
Even though she didn't really noticed it at first, but apparently when she decided to fight the guy and kill him, there was something on her mind that snapped and broke. When that happened, her senses became more sensitive and much stronger than before. Because of that, she could listen to everything that the police around her are saying even though they're only whispering to each other, and far away from her.
"This month sucks." says one of the police. "Yesterday there was a riot in a carinderia, and now kidnappings with a huge syndicate involved."
"Yeah, right." the second police beside him sighed. "For some reasons, crime rates started rising this month. And some shit are already becoming weird."
Another police laughed.
"Well, wanna hear something weird? Have you heard about the road accident in B-road?" when the third police noticed that the other two police are listening, he continued. "I heard it happened because a woman stopped a fast moving van with a single punch. Can you believe that? And base from the testimony and investigation, there's a huge chance that it might be true. Sadly, we don't have security camera in that part of the road, or it would have been fun to see."
The second police laughed.
"Yeah, imagine a woman punching a van like a superhero. That'd be cool."
"Well, based from the investigations and that little girl, the people of that van should be her kidnappers."
Whispered the first police while pointing towards Jenny's position using his pouty lips.
"So that woman was really a hero and saved her?" Said the second police jokingly.
"That's not the only weird thing, y'know?" the third police smiled. "Remember the robbery happened in Q-city? From what I heard some weird shit happened there. From what the forensics said, one of the gang members there died because a punch put a hole in his chest and destroyed his organs!"
"I heard about that, but I don't think that's true." the first police shook his head slightly.
"Well, not only that. They also found something that made even the highest authorities block all informations about the incident. Some of the basic informations was given to the media, but the core of the things there are classified."
"They're trying to cover it, I heard." said the second police. The third police laughed and continued.
"You guys know there's a rumor going on in the internet, right now?" he smiled and looked at the two. "Base from rumors, and all the weird things happening, there's a high chance that its true."
Looking around, he lowered his voice and started acting secretive.
"They said there are people acquiring some kind of supernatural powers all around the world. And these people are wrecking havoc everywhere!" he then laughed relaxedly. "If we look at it, then that means the woman who stopped the van, and the masked metal pipe who put a hole on someone's chest, must be one of those supernatural shit."
Hearing that, second police laughed.
"Well, that explains all the weird shit happening everywhere!"
The first police rolled his eyes and didn't say anything.
Actually, the three of them didn't believe the rumors. They just thought the rumors are interesting to talk about. But even so, they felt weird as where these rumors came from. As what they said, there's no smoke without fire. So these things must have been based on something, and weirdly enough they also noticed some weird cases going around them. And all of those weird things are very hard to explain, or even believe without proof. Actually, even with proofs they would still be skeptical about it.
As Jenny listen to all the police around her, she noticed that a middle aged man appear and all the police started greeting him. This man then entered his office and only came out almost half an hour later. At this time, there are already some reporters outside the police station and were waiting for an update. Jenny knew that most of them came here because of her.
"Eleven year old girl murdered her kidnapper", sounds like something that can be use as a headlines.
When the middle aged man appeared, he walked towards Jenny and told her that he would bring her somewhere. However, before the middle aged man could take Jenny away, a voice of a man suddenly cut in.
"Captain, there are protocols that we need to follow." the voice said, somewhat lazily. "You cant just take her away."
The middle aged man, or Captain, looked at the direction of the voice and started frowning.
"And who are you to tell me what to do?" Captain said. "Mendoza, you just got transferred here. You better tone down your attitude."
The voice, Mendoza, started laughing easy going-ly.
"Well, my previous Captain didn't mind my attitude as long as I did my job right."
Jenny knew that Mendoza's voice coming in front of her, but because there are so many tables, files, and even a pillar standing in between, she couldn't see Mendoza's face.
"Is your job involves questioning me? Your superior?" Captain lightly snorted. "You better be careful, no matter how outstanding your records are, in this station, I'm your Boss."
Mendoza laughed lightly, and his sarcastic filled voice was easily heard by everyone.
"Threatening a colleague--- Ahh, my clear rainbow-colored heart has been tainted black by reality of the world." the voice was was full of exaggeration, and even though Jenny couldn't see him, she knows he must be acting like on those in theater. "Goodbye, to the innocence of my youth."
Some of the police started laughing, but when they realize that Captain was pissed, they immediately stopped. They could only look at Mendoza and tried to suppress their giggle.
The Captain's brows twitched.
"Mendoza!"
With surprisingly loud shout, Jenny took a couple step back and looked at the Captain while slightly frowning.
She couldn't stand people who always use loud voice just because they couldn't win an argument.
"Sir, how 'bout we make a bet?" the voice this time changed, and is now quite calm. "After you take little Jenny away--- if within this week you still have a job.."
With a low voice that only Jenny was able to hear, "or if you're still alive.."
"I, the most lovable police in the world, Mendoza, would quit being a police."
Even though Jenny couldn't see his face, she felt like this Mendoza must be smiling right now.
"Sir, wanna play this little game of mine?"

All in the hopes of an uncertain survival. _________ This fiction has NOT been abandoned. I made a haughty promise earlier to not worry because I'll continue this series, and with things lately, I've only proved myself a liar. Further promises dwindled, and I've lost trust. So many things have been going on recently that I've been booked. I will refrain from making any future guarantees or promises as my busy schedule will stay with me for a long long while. Time for me to actually spend on writing and revising won't appear until at the least November 19. I won't say expect that's when I'll restart, but you can expect expecting it to maybe happen. That's really shallow. But with everything going on, I've let my small reading base down. I apologize. I still stick by my statement though that I won't abandon this project. I plan to stick it to the end, no matter the delay. Most importantly, thank you everyone; readers who both like and dislike my work. I appreciate your time spent on my dumb imagination. Stay toasty my readers in this winter season. Cheers. UPDATE: We're back on track. Thank you for your patience. Any future readers, heyo! Glad you're here. UPDATE 2: So far it's been 21 days since I last uploaded a chapter. The best thing done for any fiction, no matter how good it is, is that it continues, and I have a bad history with that. 1 fiction on hiatus and already more delays with less than 20 chapters in this fiction. I've been very preoccupied with adding more things to do in my life rather than actually committing to any particular thing. That applies primarily to this. I cannot abandon this, as busy as my future looks and will look as I get busier and busier. Someday, I hope, I will be able to sit down and just write. just. write. But for now, I ask for patience. I suppose I'm glad this fiction hasn't picked up so that I don't disappoint too many people if any really. But I need to commit and it's going to happen sometime and sometime soon. No more flowery words. I'll see you later. UPDATE 3: It's very evident I won't be able to pick up this story for a while. With AP Testing, competitions, and other things I am busier than ever. But I must complete this fiction. I have too. Until next time. UPDATE 4: It is now the summer. I owe everyone an apology. Chances are, nobody's around to see this, and that is okay. I only blame myself for this sort of brokenness of a fiction, not that it is actually that bad but I am just exaggerating it for dramatic effect. But what's not exaggerated is the severity of my broken promise. I apologize for my naive claims about finishing a novel that I couldn't finish and that I didn't have the discipline to finish. Nor the skills, really, I was and am still an immature writer. What is to place now? I want to make it clear I understand this is my fault. I will man up to this. And I will accept any criticism. I understand I messed up. Reading Stephen King's On Writing made it clear to me that I need to do two things:Read lots. And write lots.I have done neither. If I don't have the time to read often, how do I expect to write? I need to become more experienced. I need to become a serious writer. So if I want to dream of continuing, I need to at least fulfill both requirements. I enjoy writing. I haven't written seriously outside of school in a while. I planned to write this summer and finish this. I made a lot of promises that I didn't keep.So there's that. I won't enact any self-pity, or be foolishly obsessed. What I did was wrong, and I must deal with it. I let down readers. And I apologize.I hope I can find forgiveness. This is a writer's sin.I won't promise I'll finish this. I intend to finish this, at some point, because writing is fun and I want to write. But how things are don't reflect that. Maybe I'll finish this at some point. Maybe I won't. I won't be naive to make that promise.I thank everyone who has read this if this is the end. If not, and hopefully not, I thank everyone who is to read future chapters. I thank everyone who allowed me to live in the miniscule little dream of mine as I passed my days. I thank everyone who cares enough to read this. Until next time, peace everyone. Thank you. You are all great readers and great people. I wish everyone the best in whatever reading/writing endeavors follow you henceforth.
