Chapter 24 – Lackey

Rina went to the back room and again while I waited patiently at the main entrance.

…

I waited anxiously for about 15 minutes until Rina finally came out from the back room. I was puzzled by what I saw in her hands, it practically looked like the same Alpha wolf fur to me. But she definitely did something to it if I am to judge from the gleaming smile that was on her face, indicating that she was clearly proud of her work.

“Here is the cold-resistant item, as promised.” – Rina

Rina handed me the fur but looking closely, it looked more like a blanket now. The jagged edges were smoothed out and there was stitching all along the sides.

Item Name: Alpha Wolf Blanket

Durability: –

Stats: 30% cold resistance

Damn, 30% cold resistance! This blanket will be extremely valuable when we are freezing our asses off in the north. The fur blanket was pretty big. If I had to guess it was about 15 feet by 12 feet, enough to fit two or three people within its warmth.

“Thank you very much Rina, how much do I owe you”

“Umm, how about another favor in the future?” – Rina

It sounded like Rina had a sarcastic tone to her question but I wasn’t completely sure.

“Umm….”

“Haha, I’m just joking, you owe me nothing. Now leave my sight before I change my mind.” – Rina

She might be beautiful but she had a terrible sense of humor, plus she even laughed at her own joke….

“Thank you very much.”

I stored the blanket in my inventory and I left the workshop in an excited mood. With this blanket, I felt like I could take on whatever the north had in store for me.

[Adventurer **** has obtained the first pet in Absolute Authority. **** is rewarded 50 gold, + 15 Fame, and + 5 Honor]

Shortly after exiting the workshop, a system announcement appeared. Someone had obtained the first pet on the continent. Hopefully information on how to obtain a pet will now be on the online forums so I can obtain a pet too.

I was finally done with all the necessary work, so I decided to visit my merchant friend, Francis. I definitely had some good stuff for him to sell.

When Francis saw me approaching his stall, he had a big smile on his face. I guess he knew I was coming to do some… business.

“Hello Axle, have anything good for me today?” – Francis

“Yes I do, very valuable stuff if I say so myself.”

After saying that, Francis’s face showed an even bigger smile, or should I say greedy smile… whatever. I handed Francis the leather armor that I had just previously made in tailoring workshop then I continued to hand Francis the map of Sowth Mountain and the map of the eastern territory of Edilath.

Francis’s eyes lit up once he saw the map of the eastern terrain.

“Is-is this what I think it is?” – Francis

“Yup.”

“This map is extremely valuable. There have been many maps about the surrounding terrain but nothing this specific. If we sell this, we’re going to make some major gold. Quick, tell me how many copies do you want to make?” – Francis

“Just make as many copies as needed. This map is going to be purchased by almost every player in Edilath anyways.”

“Alright, I’ll make a few hundred copies a day or as much as I think is needed and sell each map for 10 gold. I’ll sell your other map for Sowth Mountain for about 25 silver each because let’s be honest, who the hell wants to climb that mountain. The leather armor however, I’ll sell it as high as I can and how about I take 30% of the profit.” – Francis

“Sounds like a deal, I look forward to the good news when I come back from my quest.”

“You will definitely have good news once you return, I can guarantee it.” – Francis

Francis and I said our goodbyes and I moved onto the next thing on my agenda… sleep. I logged out of AA and went to bed.

I woke up at around 3 pm. That sleep was needed considering that I stayed up all night finishing that quest. After waking up, I did my usual routine of going to the bathroom to wash up and then going into the kitchen in order to find something to eat.

“Morning James, you’re just in time.” – Haley

Just in time for what?

“Hmm, in time for what?”

“Well, you see, my friends and I want to go shopping and it would be nice, you know, if my handsome older brother joined us. We’ll go shop for, look at stuffed animals….”

I cared for my little sister for quite some time now, so I naturally knew that she had an ulterior motive.

“So basically you need someone to hold your bags for you?”

“Pretty pleeaaase?” – Haley

Haley was showing a puppy dog face. Her puppy dog face just made her even cuter and impossible to deny her request.

“Alright, but we have to come back before 6, I have a quest I need to attend to.”

“YES! Thank you so much brother. Let’s get going.” – Haley

…

“Haley! I’m glad you came, we’re going to have so much fun! Oh and you even brought your brother, great!” – Haley’s friend

“Yeah, I asked him to come hold our bags!” – Haley

Haley turned around to face me again and started to introduce me to her friends.

“James, you’ve seen my friends many times before but I’ll introduce you again just in case you forgot.” – Haley

Haley first pointed to the girl towards my left side. She had straight dark brown hair that draped over her shoulder and down her back. She also had nice facial features and a slender figure.

“This is Alisa, her in game name is Nessa and she’s a mage.” – Haley

Next Haley pointed to the next girl. She had curly black hair that was about shoulder length. Her curvy figure and big breasts complemented her facial features nicely.

“This is Chloe, her in game name is Corrie and she’s a healer.” – Haley

After introducing Chloe, Haley pointed to the next girl. She had long blond hair that was tied up in a pony tail. She had a delicate figure and her face was stunning.

“This is Madison, her in game name is Esther and she’s a necromancer”

Oh a necromancer, you don’t come across them that often. Maybe it’s because most of them are solo players.

Finally, Haley pointed to a cheerful looking girl. She had light brown hair that was tied up in twintails. She had a charming smile on her face that matched her slim figure but for some reason she seemed kind of… aloof I guess.

“This is Cyndi, her in game name is … Cyndi and she’s a knight.” – Haley

Ah, so this is the airhead, I have heard so much about….

“Aren’t my friends gorgeous? What do you think James?” – Haley

“Yeah, you all look very beautiful. Also, thank you for taking care of my little sister.”

After I complimented them, some of the girls’ faces were blushing bright red. I noticed but I decided to pretend that I didn’t. I had to admit though, these were all nice looking girls. How can there be so many from one school and also they are all in the same grade.

“Alright let’s go shopping!” – Cyndi

“Yeah!” – The rest of the girls

We started moving around the shopping mall, going into all the different types of clothing stores. The girls seemed like they were having a fun time. I started to get a little tired after awhile, so I decided to sit on a bench outside and bask in the sun while I waited for the shopping bags to pile up in the seat next to me.

I was only suppose to help carry bags anyway, I thought, why do I need to enter the stores anyway when I can just sit patiently. Suddenly, my rest was disturbed, when the girls came running in my direction and pulled into another one of the clothing stores, complaining I wasn’t doing my job properly. I was fortunate enough to grab all the bags before I was hauled off.

“Here, go into the changing room and put this outfit on. I think it would look good on you” – Haley

“Huh, I thought I was just here to carry bags….”

“Where’s the fun in that? Just go hurry up and put it on.” – Haley

“Alright, alright, stop pushing me.”

I entered the dressing room and put on the outfit that the girls gave me. After I was done changing, I opened the door and the girls were all waiting eagerly to see me.

“Holy crap, Haley, your brother looks so good in those clothes.” – Chloe

The girls were talking amongst themselves about how I looked and I will have to admit, it did make me blush… but only a little bit.

“Alright, you’re buying that outfit, right James?” – Haley

“Ahh, yeah sur….”

I looked at the price tag for the clothes they gave me. The total amount was over 120 dollars, holy crap.

“Umm, you know what? nevermind, I don’t think I need any more clothes.”

Probably knowing me the best, Haley immediately knew why I didn’t want to buy the clothes.

“Ohh come on, just buy it and relax a little. You’re going to need new clothes for college anyway.” – Haley

“*Sigh* Yeah, fine… I’ll buy it.”

…

The two hours we spent shopping continued like that. Carrying shopping bags, trying on clothes the girls gave me, and them convincing me to buy it even though it was expensive. I already knew I was going to regret spending this money later on. Well what’s done is done, I’ll just have to work hard in order to make money in AA.

“I’m hungry let’s go get something to eat.” – Madison

We decided to go hang out at a nearby cafe. This cafe seemed very popular, there were lots of groups of teens eating and drinking together, having a good time. As we entered the cafe, it seemed like everyone was staring at us. The girls didn’t seem to be fazed by the stares at all, probably because they were used to it. I decided to follow the girls’ lead and act like I didn’t notice the glares I was getting from all the guys in the cafe.

I actually don’t know what these guys are so jealous about. Sure, the girls I’m with are beautiful but I’m also carrying over 10 shopping bags in my arms. I look more like a lackey than a stud….

We sat down at a table that fit seven people and ordered our drinks.

“So James, what have you been doing so far in AA?” – Alisa

“So far I’ve just been going on all different types of quests and actually when I log back on, I am going on another quest.”

“Oh what’s the quest about?” – Chloe

“My friend and I have to go up north and help escort some church members so they can help some village. I don’t know that much about the quest yet but enough about me, what are you girls doing in AA.”

“*Giggle* Well actually we were planning to travel to Edilath soon because Haley has been begging us for quite some time now to go visit her brother.” – Madison

“Madison! Don’t tell him unnecessary things!” – Haley

Haley’s face was flushed red. I have such a cute little sister.

“When you girls come to Edilath, message me. We will go on extreme adventures together!”

“Yeah!” – All the girls

…

When Haley and I got back to our apartment it was around 5:45 pm.

“Oh crap, I have to hurry, I promised to meet Iris at 6!”

I ran to my room and put on my VR Headset. In the distance I could hear Haley.

“Wait, who is Iris?!” – Haley

Sorry Haley, I have no time to answer your question right now.

“YES!”

Swish

I spawned in the middle of the market area. It was bustling with crowds of people as usual.

I got to hurry to the church. As I was approaching the church, I could see Iris standing by the church doors. But she wasn’t alone, there was also something sitting next to her. I couldn’t tell right away because I was too far away. But as I got closer I realized that the thing next to Iris was a small wolf.

The wolf was the same one we got from the quest. But for some reason it wasn’t a baby anymore, it look like it’s grown a little.

Wait….it couldn’t be…a pet?
