《The Precursor》The System and the Council of Gods
Advertisement
While gazing into the beautiful array of lights caused by the universes, I finally gather the courage to ask a question that has been bothering me. "System," I inquired with hesitance in my voice, "What are you? I know your my 'personal system' but that doesn't tell me a lot."
There was a silence before the System responded.
{I am the last will of the Sixth Precursor. I was created in order to find a new replacement for my Creator.}
I was shocked and with surprise in my voice, I asked, "There were others before me?"
{Yes, Creator. You are the Seventh Precursor. The previous Precursors all disappeared due to boredom or insanity. Eternal life can mess up anyone's mind, even if they are all powerful.}
"Thank you for telling me this." I responded while dismissing the system with a wave of my hand.
That was a lot of heavy knowledge. I had vaguely knew that there was definitely someone before me, but this confirmation was still hit like a truck.
The biggest reason it hit me so hard was that I knew that eventually I might end up in the same situation. There is no true way to combat boredom or insanity. Boredom is almost impossible to stop. You can only temporarily stop it by doing something new.
Insanity is easier to "cure". Usually insanity stems from loneliness. I didn't want to create a fake family for myself though. I would rather have faithful subordinates that are fun to be around.
So now, it's time to create beings to help me and my creation.
I first called Hinata back. I greeted her with a smile and a small blush quickly formed on her face. I then beckon her to me.
"L-lord", she stutters nervously as I look intently at her, "Do you require something?"

I just shake my head at her words. I then told her to stand behind me. Hinata had already been watching me create, but I thought it would be important for her to watch who I'm about to create.
I create three beings. One girl and two boys. The girl has white hair with bright, ocean blue eyes. Her skin is fair and tender and snow-white. She has a vibrant, cheery smile and an extroverted personality.
When I created her, I noticed Hinata seemed kind of annoyed at the girl's presence.
But I carry on anyway. The second boy has black hair with dark eyes. His skin is also fair and tender but dark. He has an aura of gloom and darkness around him. He looks depressed and introverted.
The last boy was a mix. He was split directly in half with different features. One half had the features of the girl and the other half had the features of the other boy.
All three opened their eyes at once. They all spotted me at the same time and kneeled. As one, they shouted, "We greet you Supreme Creator."
I nodded my head in appreciation. I turned to the first girl and said, "You shall be called Xenia and will be the goddess of order, life, and everything that is considered good."
I turn my head to the emo boy and say, "You shall be called Erebus and will be the god of chaos, death, and everything that is considered evil."
I then look at the last, split boy and utter, " And you shall be Isorro and will be the god of balance. You shall keep the balance of good and evil to make sure that one side does not topple the other.
The three nod knowing that I still have more to create. I then created a woman. She is tall, elegant, with long black hair and piercing green eyes. She has a charming and mature aura and a kind smile.

She bows to me while smiling.
I see Hinata slowly becoming enraged at the sight of the woman, but I suppress the shivers in my heart.
I softly tell the woman, "You shall be Maire, the goddess of fate. You shall keep track of the life of everyone in all the universes. Something does not happen without your influence in the matter."
Maire nods her head and teleports behind me for I still have one last being to create.
I slowly create a young man who is shining with youth. He has tanned skin with bright, sky-blue eyes and blond hair. He elegantly bows to me while I speak, "You shall be Orion and will be the god of space and time. You shall keep time and space intact for all eternity."
Orion also teleports behind me while I gather my thoughts. I then turn around and slowly gaze at each of my new creations.
I then loudly declared with all my authority, "My blessed creation, you six will make up the COUNCIL OF GODS."

The Book of Hickory
Now why did Hickory go and punch that Angel? Sure it spooked him, popping up right there at lunch, and yet, it wasn't fear that balled his hand into a fist - Cause wouldn't you? Wouldn't anyone - with a sick Ma at home, Da long dead, buried, all them prayers piling up on bruised knees, unanswered? Hickory was angry, all right. He was fierce, now - cause that Angel didn't show up to give no help, that Angel came by asking for it - with all that power just plain to see, the power to fix the world and all that ails it! And now look what poor Hickory has to do - to save the world? Now how is he supposed to do that when its taking near everything he's got - just to keep them chickens safe, Ma fed, and himself out of trouble - All he wanted was maybe just a dance with May, maybe a bit more, to hold her close? That she's sweet, now, a voice like an angel, but now she's over there lookin at him like he's more than a man. And that's not to say Hickory is bad, not all the time, not ever on purpose - just there are things a man has to - That drinking and fighting ain't wrong just as long as the chores are done proper first, that those parts of life that make it worth living ain't no sin, that loving a lady is proper and Hickory just has so much love to give! And May is special, right, sweet and soft, now she's sophisticated. That she wears her passion like a pearl necklace? That certainly Hickory would notice, naturally - that she's already spoken for, perhaps taken? That ever since Hickory came back, that all she can think about is swallowing - those strange feelings, because it wouldn't do, would it? For a Lady? But certainly she can worship him and still be seen with Weston Covanger? Because Weston needs May, that what happens in the Study is only half the battle, the Men's Business, and he's far too proud to settle for half of anything. That if he wants to move up the ranks of his family, to be more than a Covanger, to become the Covanger? He's going to need a woman in the Kitchen as well - he's going to need May. And if that seems a bit old fashioned? A bit too much like the Wild West? Well the West is starting to get wild again now that everyone starts to Drink. A different take on LitRPG where answers aren't given - they must be earned, discovered and fought for, one at a time. An orator style, a long read, filled with magic buildings, crafting, alchemy, but most of all - This is a story about the human spirit. About understanding what defines a person, their morals, their beliefs, and also faith when everything they understand becomes challenged - changed. So do they. People can change. They will. Just not always for the better, not always - sometimes. Sometimes that's enough. Sometimes that's even everything.
