~ Third Person POV ~
The bright light faded and numerous humans appeared out of thin air. Kouta, who was battling the mutated Korke, went speechless at the sudden situation thrown at him.
“Kayaka?”
That’s right. The fated moment where the two siblings reunite after a sudden long parting…
~ Kouta POV ~
“Kayaka?”
A dumb voice escaped my lips as I stared at the person whom I would never hope to meet in this dungeon this early.
“!?”
A huge beetle charged at me while I was staring dumbfounded at my sister.
“DON’T YOU DARE IGNORE ME!!!”
Korke, while gripping the neck of Alexis and body of Furry, charged at me while spouting words full of hatred and scorn. This is no time for staring!
I quickly brandished my dagger and dodged to the side, afterwards, I used [Pounce] to chase the charging beetle and strike it’s arm gripping Alexis’ neck while spinning to gain extra cutting power.
*Ting*
Sadly, it was not enough to cut through the shell. It barely made a scratch on it. Damn! At this rate, they will really die! I need to ask for help!
“Kayaka!”
“Kouta-nii!?”
When I shouted my little sister’s name, she responded with a surprised voice. She must have been shocked from the sudden teleportation and change of scenery.
“There is not time, but please help me!”
“!? Un!!”
Without questioning my motives, Kayaka began asking the students, a.k.a. heroes to help fight the giant monster.
“THAT DAMNED TRAITOR!!!”
Korke went on a rampage, stomping around and charging madly through the hall. Some knights were trampled to death while there were no hero casualties.
“FUCKING BASTARD!!! I KNEW I SHOULDN’T HAVE TRUSTED YOU!!!”
Korke went on and on about something about betrayal, but as I had no time to listen and understand the meaning behind those words, I began calculating the best way to rescue the two from the clutches of the Demon General. Just a few more seconds and Alexis will really die! I need to hurry!

“Kouta-nii! We’ll support you!”
“That’s right senpai!!”
Kayaka and Hyoudo quickly ran to my side and readied their stances.
“Kayaka, please rescue the girl and animal who are being held by that monster.”
Kayaka, who was holding a hammer, is the best matchup for this opponent, so I asked her to rescue the Alexis and Furry. She gave a nod in response to my request and brandished her hammer.
“GOOO!!!”
With my signal, I, Kayaka, and Hyoudo charged at the Demon General at the same time. About the others, they were too shocked or scared to fight. Others were literally no use in head-to-head combat so they were staying behind.
“Hey!! You students are forgetting what a teacher’s duty is!!!”
Except for one, Tani Tanura, the principal of the school. Even if she is Spartan, she still holds that teacher ideology of hers to heart. That is, to protect the students and guide them to a better future. She wields a sword two times larger than herself, the very picture of a warrior. She looks like a dignified swordswoman, if the sword she held was a katana.
“Hey!! You oversized insect!! Don’t you dare lay a hand on my students!!”
Tanura-sensei charged at the Demon General while holding her giant sword overhead. She synched her timing with ours in order to be able to not mess our timings up.
“Oryaaa!!!”
First was me. I held my dagger and swiped at the shell of the Demon General, regardless of how it bounced off. And while using the centrifugal force, I continued landing combos on the tough shell, in hopes of draining the Demon General’s status attributes.
Hyoudo was keeping it company along with Tanura-sensei. Hyoudo was supporting Tanura-sensei while Tanura-sensei was landing huge blows on its body, causing cracks to form on the black shell.
Kayaka, who I asked to save the two hostages, charge towards the Demon General and hopped on its back. Upon landing, she ran towards the arm holding Alexis and swung her hammer, smashing the shell. Sound of breaking could be heard through the cave as Kayaka continued swinging her hammer in hopes of releasing Alexis from the life-threatening situation.

“GUaaHH!!! INSOLENT PESTS!!!”
Just as the arm broke and Alexis was set free, Korke rampaged about, throwing off Kayaka and Alexis off its back. Alexis landed a little ways around him while Kayaka landed a little farther from Alexis.
“DAMN INSECTS!!!”
“Who are you calling an insect!? Insect!!”
Tanura-sensei charged once more with her giant sword overhead. Her aim, was the other arm holding Furry who was struggling while casting water blades here and there. Just how big is her mana pool?
“ORYAAA!!! [Dismembering Strike]!!”
The giant sword sliced through the shell and dismembered the arm, setting Furry free. Furry fell down and did a back flip upon landing to quickly get away from Korke. While midair, Furry launched water blades towards the visible cracks on Korke’s body.
“GAAHHH!!!!”
Korke let out a scream of pain as blood spewed from the cracks.
“DAMN BRATS!!!”
Korke let out a howl of anger as he tried to look for a chance of escape. In one corner of his eye, he spotted a defenseless girl trying to get her breath back from being strangled for a long time.
“UOOAAAAHHH!!!”
Korke charged at Alexis with his giant body, as there were less defenses in that area.
“Shit!!”
I quickly used [Pounce] in hopes of overtaking him and ran towards Alexis. There was no time to carry her out, so I pushed her out of the way and took the brunt of the charge, causing me to fly again towards the wall.
“Gaahh!?”
“Kouta-nii!!”
Kayaka, who saw me flying and crashing into the wall, raised a cry of sorrow and worry.

“Kouta-nii!!”
Kayaka dashed towards me in hopes of helping me.
“Stu… pid..! Don’t… Bre.. .ak… the… forma… tion…!”
Because of the pain and wounds, my words were broken and had little to no volume, so it was impossible for Kayaka to hear it from over 30 meters away inside a noisy battlefield.
Taking that chance, Korke charged towards Kayaka with bloodshot eyes. Damn! Move! My body!!
Mustering the last of my strength, I moved at high speed without regards to the pain and bleeding. Even one hit from a stick can kill me, but I need to protect Kayaka!
Faster! Faster! Make it in time! Even if you die!
“!? Kouta-nii! STOP!!”
With tears in her eyes, Kayaka begged me to stop. It’s too late, I can’t stop anymore. If I stopped, I will stumble down and for sure kill myself. Sorry Kayaka, sorry I can’t fulfill my promise.
“DIEE!!!!”
A giant beetle crashed with my body full of injuries and my consciousness faded to darkness.

Where the story is going, is clear to me. The image is a concept art of a creature from an online rpg game long forgotten. Text added by me using paint 3d.

Sanguine
The Coles are probably the definition of a small dysfunctional family, even if they weren’t the worst in existence; they would probably be lauded as an example of the term. The Coles were a small family though. The father, Oliver Cole, was an asshole ex-football jock who bounced around in small paying jobs after wasting most of his life drinking, drugging and whoring. The daughter, Stacy Cole, was smart, but had many issues including anger, trouble with authority, and occasional suicidal thoughts, and was kicked out of many a school for disruptive behaviour. The son, Mike Cole, was innocent, and tried his best to be kind to anyone and everyone, however his own speech impediment, and slow nature only aided people to bully and belittle him, including his own father. The Coles were indeed a dysfunctional family. At least they were, until they got to the small town near the border between the United States and Canada, Sanguine. Welcome to Sanguine. You will stay. With the exception of the first chapter, each chapter only follows one character. The first chapter is the only chapter in which I will include 'Sides' where it follows a different character. This is a short Lovecraftian story, it won't go above seventeen chapters. Note: the book cover is my first attempt, it might not even remain like it is, I was just tired of seeing the standard 'no cover' thing on it.
