《Try Me!》Volume 3 Chapter 5: Frost

After going around killing the skeleton parties for almost a week, I finally come before a door. And I think I know what it leads to.
YES. The boss’ room. Well, at least that is what I’m hoping for. This place is getting dull after staying here for almost a month. And I believe if I kill the boss, I can ascend a floor for real and see some change in scenery.
But, first let’s rest a little bit. I may be fine physically, but mentally I’ starting to get exhausted. And I think it is reasonable after dungeon crawling for almost a month without stop.
I need to sleep. So, I summon my wolf and leave it on guard and go to sleep.
………
YAWN.
That was pleasant, considering where I’m sleeping. I feel like a new person. Hehe. I get up and approach the door. Now, let’s hope this is a the boss’ room.
I push it and as soon as I touch it, it starts to open on its own. Well, this is convenient. As it opens, I see light behind the door. Shit, this is too bright to someone who’s been in perpetual darkness for a month.
I close my eyes and open it little by little to make them used to the light again. As my eyes get used to the light, I see what is behind the door.
Giant hall with tall pillars which I can’t see the top. In middle of the hall sits a throne. On it sits nothing. Huh. I expected the necromancer sitting on it and looking at me.
Anyway, after that I enter the room and as soon as I enter it, the door closes behind me. Yup, definitely a boss’ room.
But where is the boss. I expected a necromancer, but I’m not seeing anything. I walk up to the throne and check it out. Simple chair, nothing more.

“Hello? Is anybody here?”
“Welcome to my humble abode.”
“What the hell, who was that?”
I suddenly hear a deep baritone voice echoing through the hall.
“I had many names when I was alive. But now, you may call me Frost.”
“Okay. My name is Alder. Nice to meet you.”
“Oh. A gentleman. It is a pleasure to meet you too.”
“So, Mr. Frost what are you?”
There was no answer after I asked that. After few seconds I hear a rustling noise from above. And I look upward along one of the pillars and see bones. Specifically, skeleton of a snake coiling around the pillar. After a few seconds, it reaches the ground and I see a giant snake skeleton with a crimson red flame for eyes looking at me.
“Once again, it is nice to meet you alder, I’m Frost.”
“Basilisk?”
“Indeed, I am.”
“Awesome.”
It looks at me in silence for a while.
“Haha. Well, that was not a response I was expecting.”
“Well, I aim to please.” I nod at him.
“Indeed, you do. Hehe.”
“So, I take it that you are the boss of this floor?”
“Indeed, I am.”
“So, I need to defeat you to ascend to the next floor?”
“Indeed, you do.”
“Brief and specific, I like you.”
“Hehe. It seems I like you too. It is a pity that I have to kill you now.” He slithers towards slowly.
“Wait a minute.”
“What?”
“Since we are going to be fighting, you mind if I ask you a few questions?”
“Well, I suppose I won’t. Go ahead.”
“I assumed this place was a dungeon, am I right to assume that?”

“Indeed, you are. And you mean to say that you entered this place without knowing it was a dungeon?”
“Awesome. Yes. And I didn’t enter this place. I got teleported here accidentally. Next, how many more floors are there in this dungeon.”
“That unfortunately, I do not know.”
“Okay. Next, can you tell me little about yourself?”
“What? Are you serious?”
“Extremely.”
“Why?”
“Well, I never met a basilisk before, let alone a skeleton one. So, I got to wonder how you become like this, right?”
“You are indeed a peculiar one.”
“So, are you going to tell me or not?”
“Hehe. Indeed, a peculiar one. Well, I suppose it won’t hurt. When I was alive, I was feared through out the empire as a Harbinger of Death. Wherever I passed, I left a bloodbath or stone garden.
And one day, certain elf appeared in front of me and challenged me into a fight. We fought for a long time, but in the end, I ended up being defeated by that elf. I thought that was it.
But after a few years I came back as an experiment of a necromancer. He tried to reanimate a basilisk. It’s never been done before. Some tried it with dragons, humans and other life forms.
But basilisk is a creature fully devoid of a magic. Even my petrifying gaze is a skill I use with my vitality. So, it was thought to be impossible to reanimate a basilisk. But somehow that necromancer managed to reanimate me.
And I did his bidding for almost two centuries. After a while I got tired of it and wanted end for my miserable existence. But had no way to end it.
Unexpectedly, that necromancer decided to raid this dungeon for some reason and brought me with him. And as soon as we entered this dungeon something called out to me. It asked me if I wanted to be free. I said yes.
And it told me its condition to free me. Serve this dungeon for millennia and I will get a body along with my freedom. That is if I manage to survive long enough. I accepted as soon as I heard that, and this dungeon freed me from that necromancer’s control and put me here.
After about three months, that necromancer appeared in front of me and I butchered that necromancer. Mmm, that was good.
And I have been here for five centuries now.”
“Wow, that was epic. Now my last question. What dungeon is this?”
“This dungeon isn’t known to many to get a name. So, those few who know it simply calls it Wasteland like place it is located.”
“Thank you for answering my questions. Now shall we fight?”
As I said that grin once again crawls up to my face. Frost looks at me and…
“HAHAHAHA, indeed, a peculiar one.”

Killstealer
Unfinished - Apologies to anyone who was reading but I have no current intentions to revisit this story Alex was stuck in a rut: He was nearing thirty, and his career seemed to be going no-where; He used to have plenty of friends at university, but had gradually lost touch with them. He had recently started using a dating site, but truthfully he never quite got over his ex. It could be worse; he didn't spend his nights wallowing in self pity. However, he had a sinking feeling that his life was going no-where fast. When Alex decided to take up an old hobby all he really was looking for was something fun to do on friday nights. Thrust into another world by a mad mage Alex must adapt quickly to survive. Unfortunately, Alex showed up late to game night and ends up stuck with a pretty mediocre character in this game like reality. Alex must learn to survive in this new world; just because it all seems like a giant game doesn't make death any less terrifying. This will be my first attempt at writing litrpg. I wanted to set myself the challenge of writing every week and I think knowing people might be reading it will motivate me. I've always worked much better with external deadlines. FAQ Why should I read this LitRPG? I am writing because I enjoy it and you should read it if you enjoy it. If I had to make an elevator pitch I would start off by saying my MC is a rogue type character, which seems a relatively uncommon character at least based on what I have read. I also strive to make the supporting cast three dimensional characters, and not just caricatures. Finally, I can't forget that this is a LitRPG so I have tried to make a RPG system with depth, and one that makes sense. How often will you release chapters? At least once a week is my goal. I am a nurse with a baby at home, so between my hospital and my baby I won't have time for more unless something dramatically changes. Will there be romance? I won't rule it out as I try to let my characters write their own stories. However, there will NEVER be a harem, it just isn't something I am interested in. Gore, Profanity, and Traumatising Content? I don't intend to have any of these present at obscene levels, but my tolerance might be different to yours. The tags are mostly there to cover me.
