《Try Me!》Volume 3 Chapter 3: Ghouls

Ghouls. Monsters on this floor are ghouls. Whooh. On top of being ugly as hell, the smell is already starting to kill me. I never thought that I would hate my enhanced sense of smell.
Now, question is: are those ghouls like the skeletons. Would they need a specific weapon to kill them? Let’s check it. I pick up a stone from the ground and throw it toward the closest ghoul.
ROAR!
As soon as my stone hit it, it roars loudly and runs toward my. As expected, ghouls are much faster than the skeletons. Anyway, let’s try with sword. Considering they have a flesh on their bones, I think sword would work better.
And when it comes to a sword, it has got to be a katana, right? Hehe. After making a katana out of my mana, I get into stance and wait for the ghoul to get into range of my katana. After running toward me for ten meters, ghoul finally notices me and charges at me with even more abandon.
Twenty meters, fifteen meters, ghoul gets closer and closer. But as soon as it was about ten meters away from me, it suddenly throws something at me. And as I focus on whatever it threw, it turned out to be a skull.
As the skull flies at me, I try to draw my katana and cut, but fails miserably as my katana breaks. Shit. Now that I thought about it, katana making involves a lot of technical process. And I don’t know about any of them.
But my makeshift katana still managed to change the skull’s direction. As the ghoul nears me, I activate my gears and prepare to fight it out with it.
It pounces on me as soon as it gets in range and swipes with its ugly claws at me. I block it with my left gauntlet and counter with my right to its head.
BOOM.
My punch lands on its head with a micro explosion and throws it back. It gets back up as soon as it lands and charges at me again. But its head still got caved in from my punch, so I think this means that I can kill it with anything as long as I manage to inflict enough damage to it.

This makes it so easy. While I was celebrating over this pointless observation, more ghouls start to appear around me and charge at me as soon as they see me.
“Fenrir!”
As soon as I called his name, Fenrir exits through my shadow and activates his avatar. After that, I summon my wolf and stand in back to back formation.
As soon as the ghouls come into range, I take a deep breath and unleash my fire breath on them. Other two does the same too. And from the looks of it, it is working on them.
After few seconds problem starts popping up. While we are trying to fry them with fire, they won’t approach us and just stand outside range of our fire.
I stop my fire after noticing that. And as soon as I stop breathing fire, they start to charge at us again. I guess I have no other choice but a melee. Then, let’s do it.
While they are charging at me, I start to charge my fourth technique. Let’s see you ugly ass bastards survive this. While doing it myself, I give my wolf its command to charge up the dragon too.
And as soon as they come into range and pounce at me again, I unleash my dragon and wreak havoc on them. As my dragon pierces through among them and shred them apart with its high RPM, their flesh get’s rent into pieces and they fall to the ground nothing but a bone.
I feel their life force while killing them and as if confirming my kill their bones crumble into dust. My wolf is doing same too.
But Fenrir is doing something different. He spiting out a cluster of dark energy at the ghouls and that dark energy attaches itself onto the ghouls body. After that attached dark energies attract each other and gathers the ghouls at one place.
As soon as he gathered enough them, he immediately unleashes a black fireball as big as his head at them, wiping them out.

At this rate we can get rid of the ghouls soon enough. And just as I was thinking that.
ROAR!!!
I hear a roar much louder than the other ghouls. I look toward where the roar came from and see ghoul that is three times bigger than other ghouls.
Hehe. Mini-boss, I see. There is three of them looking toward us menacingly. Just the right amount.
“Kill them.”
As soon as I said that Fenrir and my wolf charges toward the giant ghouls. I follow them too. Their size is almost equal. As for me, I’m too small in comparison to the giant ghoul. But that doesn’t matter, I can still slaughter them.
As Fenrir and my wolf clashes with the two on the sides, I charge at the one in the middle. That one is exuding most pressure.
It simply looks to me as I charge at it. There is nothing in its eyes. Just as I get in range, it suddenly moves and swipes at me with its right claw. I punch toward its claw to negate its momentum and stop the swipe. And jump as high as I can and free fall onto it with my second technique.
It blocks my kick with its oversized claw without problem. Its claw absorbed the impact from my kick and transferred it to the ground. Its can redirect kinetic energy. That is problematic. While distancing myself from the ghoul, I spew fire on it. It dodges to right and immediately charges at me. I can’t do much while falling.
It gets into range and swipes with its overgrown claw at me and slashes my right side. Shit. Just as it slashed me, I punched it in its face in my anger and manage to throw it away. I think it can’t redirect kinetic energy while fighting. It seems it needs certain preparation to do that.
I land and see my right-side bleeding. Something is slowing my regeneration. It is healing but slowly. I think it is something about its claw.
Hmph. Doesn’t matter, I will kill it now. After getting up it charges at me again. This time I will my gauntlet to change its form into arrow and wait for it to enter my range.
And as soon as it enters my range, I dodge its claw and punch it in its gut and pierce through its hide. It isn’t affected by it. I knew. So, I unleash my third technique inside its guts and pull my hand out and take distance from it.
As I watch it from distance, my third technique wreaks havoc inside its body. After few seconds of struggling it simply explodes from inside out. That’s one down.
After finishing my ghoul, I look to the other two. My wolf is running out of energy. As for Fenrir his ghoul is almost done. Its tow arms are gone, and half of its body is gone too. But it still charges at Fenrir with wild abandon.
Fenrir lifts his right paw and as I look closer, I see his claws shining with dark sheen and covered in dark energy. As ghoul gets in range, he simply swipes with his claw and decapitates it. That’s two down.
Finally, just before it ran out of energy my wolf entangles the ghoul and self-destructs.
BOOM!
As dust settles, I see the ghoul almost half dead roaring at me. Fenrir materializes out of its shadow and decapitates it like the last one. And that’s three down.
ROAR!
As we get rid of the giant ghouls, I hear more roaring from surroundings. Hehe. This is getting fun.
“Let the slaughter begin.”
