《Try Me!》Chapter 27: Situation

“Do you know anything about that red magic circle?”
I ask from my wife.
“I have no idea. But from the vibe it is giving, it is nothing good.”
“I guess you are right.”
While we are talking, 47 is doing who know what to one of the demons. Still, once again, I’m seriously humbled by him. He and his wolf singlehandedly beat the crap out of fifteen demonic mages.
And now he is extracting information from the last one. He keeps breaking the mage’s bones one by one. But mage isn’t saying anything. And more the mage clumps up, more 47 gets angry. And that causes him to break more bones.
That is a vicious circle.
“I think we should go to our guilds first and see what is happening there. City is way too quiet and empty. Something dark is happening here. First let go to the Guild and find out what happened to the residents.”
“You are right.”
I go to where 47 is.
“47 we are going to the Guild and find out what is happening. What are you going to do?”
“I will go separately and find out whoever’s responsible.”
“What are you going to do when you find them?”
“Of course, kill them.”
“Why are you trying to save this city? I know you are new here and have no attachment to it.”
“I’m not trying to save this city. I want to kill whoever’s responsible for this for my own reasons.”
“Got it. Then good luck.”
“Like I said before: I don’t need luck. It costs too much.”
After saying that he crushes the mage’s neck and disappears. Now I can’t sense him at all. I think he let me sense him during our first meeting.

“What did he say, Owl?”
“That he will find whoever’s responsible for all this and kill them.”
“Think he can do that?”
“I’m not sure. But he has more chance than we do.”
“Well, considering what he showed us, you are right.”
“Let’s hurry to the Guild. We need to find out what is going on and save the residents.”
After running for ten minutes, we see the Guild.
“Don’t you notice something strange?”
“What?”
“There is no one stopping us. There was more than twenty people waiting for us when we entered the city. But now there isn’t a single person in sight. And that is suspicious.”
“I suppose you have a point. But whatever is happening let’s get to the Guild first and see if anyone’s inside.”
“Got it.”
We run into the Guild and see other adventurers pointing their weapons at us.
“Stop. It’s Guild-master.”
Orm the instructor shouts and the adventurers relax.
Orlin steps up.
“What is happening here?”
“We have no idea. Barrier was put up after about an hour you left. And the red magic circle appeared about four hours later. And as soon as that happened, we sent out two silver ranked team out. But they just vanished as soon as they exited the guild building. We think that red magic circle is responsible for their disappearance.”
Orm tells us.
“Guild building has a protection spells for this kind of contingencies. Then I suppose residents of the city got abducted by the circle too.”
My wife explains.
“Then why didn’t we got abducted when we entered the city?”
Princess asks us. She is right why didn’t we get abducted?
“I suspect abduction happened only at the beginning or they got enough people and don’t require any more.”

My wife assumes. I walk next to her.
“Whatever happened, I think we need to head to the castle. Whatever’s happening is originated from there.”
“You are right. Princess, would you stay here safely with others?”
Orlin tells the princess with tone that can’t be refused.
“No! I want to go to the castle and confirm my family’s safety.”
“Sorry princess. But we can’t protect you within this unknown situation.”
“No! I will go with or without you.”
I think I got no other choice. I get behind her and hit her on back of her neck knocking her out.
“We don’t have time.”
“You are right. Orm take care of princess and don’t let anyone out.”
She gives unconscious princess to Orm and turns around to exit the building.
“She is gonna be pissed at you when she wakes up.”
“I would rather her being pissed at me than dead.”
“You got a point.”
“But are you sure about going there with only two of us?”
“What can I do? There wasn’t any Gold ranked team inside the Guild. Even if we bring Silver ranked ones, they will just die. You saw what the welcoming committee could do when they fought 47. Do you think there is anyone who can defeat them?”
“I suppose you are right. Then let’s just hope 47 will be there when we get there, right?”
“Yup. Now only person we can depend on is 47.”
We run toward the castle where archduke lives. Let’s just hope they are safe.
………
They got the wrong idea, it seems. They are heading toward the main castle believing that whatever’s happening is originated from there.
But they are wrong. I’m sensing something ominous from second prince’s mansion. Cause of all this is originated from there. As I head there, I start to sense others. Other demons.
I suppose I need to get rid of them before reaching Turin’s mansion. If it was anyone other than me, they would have got ambushed and killed without knowing what happened.
They are all hiding all around the street. So, I need to start dispatching them systematically from outer most ones.
So, my first target would be one inside the corner house. I reach the corner house and stand behind the wall he is leaning on. After confirming that he is leaning directly behind the wall, I touch the wall and start to pump vitality into my left arm slowly.
My left arm starts to penetrate the wall silently. And as soon as my left arm penetrates the wall without demon’s notice, I increase the vitality and entangle the demon in my branches without him letting out a peep.
One down. Ten to go. Hehe. Now I’m really starting to feel like 47.

NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK ONE: The Job)
TAO is a broken world held together with nothing but magic and the will of the gods who protect it and its people. Then thousand years ago THE SUNDERING struck and Tao was almost torn apart by a terrible magical cataclysm which resulted in the planet almost being halted in its journey through the cosmos. It took all the power the gods of Tao could muster to restore its orbit and set it turning again, but in their efforts it was forever changed – its axis was drastically altered, and it now spins in such a way that one face of the world is forever turned from the sun it orbits, leaving half the planet in perpetual darkness. The various humanoid races that survived and now thrive within the habitable parts of THE DAY LANDS have come to live in perpetual fear of what lives beyond THE BORDERLANDS that separate them from whatever dwells within THE NIGHT LANDS, but for ten millennia it has kept its secrets. The land of RUNDAO languishes under the rule of their warlike Northern neighbours, the TEKTEHRAN EMPIRE, while a small, ragtag band of motley adventurers ply their mercenary trade fighting monsters and protecting the common man from the various dangers that haunt the night and prowl the hinterlands on the edges of civilization. THE CREEPING BAM have amassed a modest reputation in their years together, but they’re still just a small-time party of sellswords, thieves, outcasts and mages. They’re also exactly the kind of underdogs the people of Tao doesn’t yet realise are needed to save the world from the encroaching darkness they doesn’t even know is coming … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.
