《Try Me!》Chapter 26: Entering the City

Fuck. What is wrong with these people. Usually, you don’t put up a second barrier. More I get to know about this place, more this place goes out of the script. I thought after I broke the outside barrier, there would be bunch of henchmen waiting for us.
But nooo. there was only two waiting for us. And I think those two weren’t just useless henchmen too. And this fucking barrier is stronger that the outside one.
I used almost everything in my arsenal to break that one. So, that leaves the last one. My overdosed fireball. But simply overdosing my fireball with mana and setting them off wouldn’t have enough impact to break the barrier.
So, what I need to do is to direct the explosion’s impact toward the barrier. In order to do that I need flexible but sturdy tube with one side open and other closed.
Well, in a word, I want to make a cannon. Since I don’t have a cannon barrel, I can only make a makeshift one from my mana. Lucky, I tried that out in my third gate.
So, there isn’t much of a risk. As I decide to blast through the second barrier, I start to make my preparation. First, my cannon barrel.
I convert my mana to earth elemental mana and will my mana to take a shape of a tube with one side open and other side closed. As I do that earthen colored tube starts to materialize in front of me. I think inside of the tube needs to be about thirty centimeters radius. And the walls of the barrel need to be as thick as I can make it.
Another important part is the foundation. If the foundation isn’t strong enough it will go crazy as soon as I fire it. While I was making my canon, Owl approaches me.
“What are you doing?”
“Building a cannon.”
“What’s a cannon?”
“Something that will break this fucking barrier for us.”
“Okay, that is good enough.”
“Oh, I think it is better for you three to be as far away as possible.”
“Got it.”
After saying that, Owl leaves and takes the other to away.
“Farther.”
I tell them. They move even farther. They reach the outside barrier and stops. I make my cannon’s feet with branches.

I pump vitality into my left arm and binds the barrel with it. After securing it with my branches I will it to dig into the ground and hold itself in there.
After setting it up, I pump even more mana into it, making it thicker and compressing it more. As I do that, barrel becomes sturdier. And I can risk it. If it breaks and my fireball explodes outside, me aside other three will certainly die.
And I will fail to break the barrier. So, I start to cast my fireball only after becoming confident that my cannon barrel will endure the explosion and focus the impact in one direction.
I pump more mana into my fireball. And like before, it starts to change color. I keep at it until it becomes pitch-black. After that, I insert my OD fireball into my cannon.
I immediately set it off as soon as it reached the closed end of the barrel.
BOOOOOOM!!!
It goes off with a glorious booming sound and hits the barrier.
CRACK!!!
As soon as my cannon hits the barrier, it starts to crack. As my cannon continues to spew fire, that crack expands. For now, my cannon is enduring. But the heat it is exuding is tremendous.
Its foundation starts to loosen as its push back grows stronger. As soon as that happens, I pump more vitality into the branches that are holding it on ground.
As they get more vitality, they start to grow crazily. Holding my cannon more securely in the ground.
CRACK!!
My cannon continues to spew black flame for more than a minute and the crack is getting bigger. I think barrier will break after two more minutes at this rate.
If my memory works right, my OD fireball burns for about five minutes. So, I think whoever’s on the other side will be the most unfortunate fool.
Mwahahahaha.
Well, that was lame. I got to stop laughing like that. While waiting for the barrier to break, I take look behind me at the other three and see some kind of ice wall protecting them. I suppose, it is too hot for them.
As the barrier gets close to breaking, its blocking weakens. And as that happens, I start to sense things from the other side.

I sense life. I think there is a quite number of people waiting in ambush on the other side. I need to be prepared. I look to my wolf and command it to split. It splits into two and those two splits into two more. I command them to be a high alert.
My wolf learned to split itself since last time it got sliced into two and regrow itself with my mana. And this is way too useful.
CRACK!!!
Crack gets even bigger. Thirty more seconds. As the countdown lowers, I start to feel excited. Excited to meet whatever’s on the other side. Whoever’s responsible for this.
I smelled corruption when I first enter this city. At first, I thought it was the higherups corrupted as always. But more I got to know about the higherups more I suspected I was wrong. But I still chose to ignore that.
That corruption I was smelling was from some deep conspiracy by whoever’s responsible for all this. I don’t know if I ignored that because of my ego or all the scripts in my head was confusing me. But whatever the reason was, that someone managed to fool me.
And that is not something I want on my record. So, I will find him and kill him.
CRACK!!!!
Five, four, three, two and
SMASH!!!
Hahahaha. As the third minute passes, barrier finally breaks. As soon as it breaks black fireball like before but much bigger meets my flame and gets pushed back inside the barrier. As my flame enters the barrier, I hear people screaming inside.
“HAHAHAHAHAHA.”
I have no idea why I laughed like that. Anyway, there is another minute till my fireball dies. So, I guess I will just wait for it to go out.
Whoever’s on the other side of the barrier tries to extinguish my fire but fails miserably. As my flame nears its end, I see my cannon’s mouth melted.
I run into the opening as soon as my fireball goes out. As I enter the city through the main gate, I see what is happening inside. First, there is a bout twenty people clad in black and path my flame travelled, and ash along that path. I think there was more that twenty people here.
As I look deeper, I see red sky and red magic circle beneath that sky rotating. I’m pretty sure that one is responsible for the red sky. I glance behind me and see that the barrier is mending itself much slower rate that the outside one.
I suppose this is this one’s weakness. Once broken it will take longer that the outside one. And I see the other three entering through the opening.
“HALT!!!”
One of the people in black shouts.
“Who the fuck are you supposed to be?”
As soon as I said that five of the people in black cast aside their black cloak and reveal themselves to be those demonic warriors. After revealing themselves they lunge at me. And my wolves lunge at them and pins down four of them. Last one lands in front of me and tries to bash me with his shield. And as he does that, strange black fog like energy covers his shield.
I think this is another skill. But as his shield nears me, I hold it with my left hand and stops it with little bit of difficulty. He looks at me astonished from behind his shield. While he was in shock, I pump vitality into my left arm and start to entangle him with my branches.
As my branches cover entangle him whole, I crush him with my branches inside it. While I was getting rid of the last one, my wolves managed to dispatch the others. I think those ones were weaker than the one outside.
Just as we got rid of the five, others hurl black fireballs at us.
BOOOM!!
Those fireballs explode in front of me and throws me back into the castle walls. My wolves get thrown back too. After standing up, I see them flickering. They start to converge and merge back into one. As they do that, it stops flickering. Good boy.
As for me, I got slightly burned. But my world tree takes care of that easily. I think I should us my other gears.
As I look to the remaining fifteen black clad people, once again grin crawls up my face.

Remorse
I have killed many people over my long life. Men, women, children. None have escaped the shadows that I control. It was only one tiny mistake that I made that changed my life forever. I underestimated her, and I would pay for my hubris. “For every death you have given, you will feel their pain.” What? “For every person you have killed, you will feel regret.” Wait, wait… “For every murder you have commited, you will know what you have done.” I don’t think this is going to be pretty. The power leaves her voice as she continues in a softer tone. “I will give you back what you have lost, you will feel empathy again.” Her power releases me and I fall to the ground. Diana. That was her name. I will remember it. ******** This story starts out somewhat dark, but it will lighten up after the first chapter. I tend to not enjoy the psychological tag too much since stories with the tag tend to be a little insane for my liking, but I feel that I would be remiss not putting it on this story, since a lot of it is about the psychology of the main character. All the content warnings are checked since I want to leave my options open to me for the future. I hope you enjoy.
