《Try Me!》Chapter 15: Awakening

I can still sense them chasing me. Usually, when the leader gets killed, followers change their leader to the being that killed their leader, right.
Anyway, now that I managed to lure them out, where to go to next. If I bring them directly to the city, I’m sure it will be useless.
City needs to know that there is an invasion of the salamanders. So, I need to lure them to other settlements near the city. That will alert the city and give the princess time to prepare. And I’m sure guild master did his part of the preparations.
So, now which direction do I head to. To get out of this forest I need to run for a day at my fastest. And it will take thirty minutes to get to the city after exiting the forest.
There is a small village to the north of the city in ten thirty kilometers distance. If I make it about two hours before the salamanders, I think I can warn them about salamanders and they can evacuate. After that I make someone report to the city and that I think will give the princess time to prepare and march out to subjugate the salamanders.
I wish I could use my bird to fly but it takes too much mana to maintain it to fly. I think I will run out of juice after half a day.
I don’t know how they are still chasing me, but they are definitely chasing after me somehow. And that is making all this really easy for me.
I keep running heading east to make it out of the forest. And after exiting the forest I will head east of the city to the village and warn the villagers.
While running I feel something in my Soul Palace. Stirring. Like something is awakening.

I enter my Soul Palace while running. Apparently, I excel at multitasking. I believe that is thanks to Alex.
After entering my Soul Palace, I search for the cause of the stirring and discover it coming from my fourth door. I will myself in front of the door and open it.
“Click.”
With a click it opens. And as soon as I enter something little pounces on me. I caught my assailant and take a good look at it.
And I see my little sleepy head. After hibernating for almost five years, he finally awakens. He is still as small as he was when I first meet him. What changed is his fur color. From snow white to darker grey.
I need to ask the tree about it.
He squirms in my arms. I put him down. He looks up to me with confusion in his eyes.
“Hello, little one.”
“……..”
“Of course, you wouldn’t answer me right.”
“……..”
He just looks at me with still confused eyes. At least I don’t see any negative response from him. But even after hibernating for four years, there isn’t that much of a change to him, except his fur color.
I suppose I can as the tree about it.
As I get back to the door little guy tries to follow me. I don’t know what will happen to him if he enters my Soul Palace. I turn into my soul form. But I don’t know what will happen to others.
So, what to do now. Do I let him cross the door or not?
Ah what the hell. Let’s let him.
I open the door again and cross it. Little guy follows me through the door. As I look back, I see him turn into grey colored floating light like me.

So, I suppose he turned to his soul form too. Now, question is: what happened to his physical body. I turn around and peek into my fourth door. And see his body unconsciously laying on the floor. His body is still breathing. So, he is fine even after going into my Soul Palace.
Okay, that answered my question.
I look back to the little guy. On the second thought, calling him little guy is kind of pointless. I suppose I could come up with a name for him.
I always liked a name Fenrir.
“So, little one, from now on your name is Fenrir.”
I don’t know how but I feel him turning to look at me and nod. I have no idea how that happened, considering he is nothing but a floating light blob now.
After nodding at me Fenrir continuous to look around my Soul Palace.
“Ding.”

Hmm, that is convenient. So, I suppose this is what my fourth door does. But he’s been in my fourth door for almost five years now.
Why didn’t this happen before? My only guess is: it happened because I named Fenrir and he accepted it.
So, logic dictates that when my egg hatches and I name the little dragon and if the little dragon accepts that name this will happen too.
But that is for later. For now, let’s ask few things from the tree.
“Click.”
“Come here, Fenrir.”
Grey blob comes to me. And I lead him through the door. As soon as he crosses the door, he turns to his physical form from spiritual one. But I’m still in my spiritual form.
I suppose this has something to do with ownership.
“So, he finally woke up, huh?”
“Yes, he did.”
“So, considering he took this long to evolve, his future looks bleak.”
“So, he did evolve, huh?”
“Yes, he did. But his potential is, well frankly garbage. So, it took almost five years for him to jump up a single step on evolutionary stair.”
“No, wonder there wasn’t much that changed.”
