《Try Me!》Volume 2 Chapter 5: Underground

“Who are you after? It can’t be me. I don’t think it is Riki, Lina or Tank. So, that only leaves Artas, huh?”
“You how did you know?”
“Well, it was pretty simple. No matter how I look at it other three are just commoner adventurers and there are too unimportant and weak to be a target for an assassination. So, that leaves something deep. Something to do with one of their background. It can’t be those three. But Elaine is different. Everything about her whether it be her mannerism or talk all of it screams nobility.
So, that means someone didn’t think Artas, a commoner is good enough for her. As every rotten person in power does that someone decided to get Artas disposed of. Am I right?”
“Why should tell you?”
I break his right hand while covering his mouth. He lets out a muffled scream.
“Now I believe you will be more cooperative, right?”
“Yes, you’re right.”
“Come on you got to resist more. You are an assassin, right?
“I will tell you everything you want. Just don’t hurt me please.”
Weak minded idiot.
“Okay, I won’t hurt you. So, tell me everything.”
“Her name is Elaine Sylvest. She is an oldest daughter of the Sylvest baron. And three days ago, someone put a hit on Artas’s head. I took it and here we are.”
“Who put the hit?”
“I don’t know.”
“What organization do you work for?”
“Under Guild.”
“What’s that?”
“Underworld guild that does everything illegal for money. Assassination, kidnapping or robbery etc.”
“How do I find that Guild?”
“Our headquarter is located in the left district of Trin city. There is a bar called Underground. Under that bar is where our headquarter is located.”
“Thanks for your information.”
After that I crush his neck. I said I won’t hurt him. Nothing about not killing him.

As I watch them go their separate ways, I couldn’t help but remembering what happened last night. And that Elaine girl is good. Those poor idiots have no idea.
I smelled corruption as soon as I entered this city. I think this will be interesting. After turning into empty street, I activate my camouflage and wait there. After few seconds two cloaked men come after me.
But seeing that I disappeared they turn back. And I follow them.
After turning who knows how many times they come before the Underground bar and enter. Inside is devoid of people except bartender.
Cloaked men nod at the bartender and latter does same too. After that they go to the back of the bar and go down along the stairs.
Coming down to basement there is nothing but empty shelfs. They go to right corner and stand there. After thirty seconds they vanish. Was that a teleportation? I think so. I stand where they stood thirty more seconds and my vision suddenly change to long corridor with doors lining along the walls.
As I guessed that was teleportation. Only those who know will stand there for thirty seconds. That is actually brilliant.
Just as I came down, I see two cloaked men entering the door on the end of the corridor. I follow them and come before the door. I don’t feel anything behind the door so, I try opening it a little and took a peek.
And there is another corridor. But I don’t see two cloaked men anymore. In this corridor there is only one door at the end. I go to there and finally get something behind the door.
There is a lot of people behind this door. That I know. So, I open the door and enter the room. Behind the door is lobby just like Guild’s. But people are all wearing black cloaks.
Even the receptionists are wearing them. Now, this is getting more interesting. I’m sure if go to the second floor I can find someone important.

Okay I was wrong. Second floor was… well frankly brothel. All the sensitive sounds coming from the doors. It seems I will have a better chance if I head to the third floor.
I don’t know what this building is made of but after ascending floor I don’t hear anything. On third floor there is only single door.
While I was standing before it, I hear someone…
“Please come in.”
Shit I think whoever’s inside knows I’m here. I open the door and enter. There is a middle-aged man sitting behind a desk. He’s not exuding any aura but I still feel threatened by this man.
I cancel my camouflage.
“How long did you know I was here?”
Middle-aged man looks at me
“Only when you reached my door. So, may I ask what brings you here?”
“I’m interested in your organization. Got a job for me?”
“You do understand what it is we do, right?”
“Of course. I’m still interested.”
“Okay then, someone like you will have a lot of options here. You will need this.”
He throws me black cloak like others were wearing.
“That will work as your license. Keep it safe.”
“So, I go down a take up any mission I want in the mission board?”
“If you are wearing your cloak receptionist will process your mission.”
“Got it. Thanks for the membership.”
“Can I ask your name?”
“I think it’s best for both of us if we don’t know each other’s names.”
After saying that I come out of the room. I think that last part sounded cool. Okay I’m now a member of an underground organization. I think I will try assassination mission for my first.
After watching Hitman, I always wanted to be like 47. I wish I at least had his pistols. After donning the black cloak, I come down to the lobby and come before the mission board.
Let’s see what mission should I take.
Elf kidnapping.
Kidnapping elves from the forest and selling them for high prices at local slave market.
Required rank: 2 stars
There is no way I’m selling elves. Well I suppose you can’t just give any mission to any one wants, without certain qualification. So, what is my star rank? Since that dude told me this cloak is my license, I think I can assume there is rank somewhere on this cloak.
After searching I find four three stars on my left sleeve. So, I guess I’m three stars member.
Next one.
Killing a baron.
Assassinate corrupt baron Clive Moren.
Required rank: 3 stars
So, I guess every one can post a mission here. Good or bad. What’s important is whether if you can pay or not.
I think this is it. This Moren dude lives in this city. I pick up the poster and bring it to one of the free receptionists.
“I would like to take this mission.”
I give the poster to receptionist while showing my stars.
“Okay.”
Receptionist is a dude. I hoped for another pretty lady. For some reason that dampened my mood. After writing something down receptionist give the poster back to me.
“To prove completion, you need to bring the baron’s head. Your codename?”
They seem to need codename to identify me next time I come to complete my mission. As for the codename there is no need to think right.
“47”
“Okay. Mr. 47 you got two weeks of time to finish your mission. If you fail to finish it in time you will be fined and your star rank will be demoted.”
“Got it.”
