《Try Me!》Chapter 4: The Interface 1
Advertisement
Now what can I do till I sleep. First let’s summarize today’s findings. First of all, I’m in a deep forest full of dangers, second there is a water source to the west in 30 minutes walking distance, third on the other side of the creek there is life threatening danger lurking, fourth the strange feeling of being observed, fifth no food. Think that’s about it.
Now what to do tomorrow? First of all, secure food. Then figure out the rest. After sun rises tomorrow let’s try heading east this time.
Now that I planned my next day what to do now.
According to my memories about mind palace I should be able to access it anytime I want. But my mind palace seems to be little different from my knowledge. Even though it’s mine there is certain factor that I’m not sure of. But first let’s see if I can access it. So, in order to do that I need to visualize it. Let’s try it.
First interface then the doors on first floor. After that door on second floor.
Suddenly I feel myself being pulled into my mind palace. But I’m starting to doubt this place is exactly a mind palace. Mind palace is just a memorization technique used to recall things easily, this is something different. This feels like my mind goes to someplace deeper. To the very essence of my being. Feels more appropriate to call it my Soul Palace.
Yup that feels more organic. Natural. On a closer look after I ate that fruit my Soul Palace feels like I’m in that forest, I think that fruit changed more than the color of the walls and first door. Let’s try opening the first door. Crap still locked.
Well whatever. It will open when it opens. Now that’s out of the way let’s check out the interface first.

Welcome to Main Interface
Scanning: 00:04:43
Well it’s almost done so that’s good news. While this finish let’s check out the door on second floor.
Still same book shelves, still same books slightly more huh. Let’s try reding the third book then.
Method of loci
The method of loci (loci being Latin for "places") is a method of memory enhancement which uses visualizations with the use of spatial memory, familiar information about one's environment, to quickly and efficiently recall information. The method of loci is also known as the memory journey, memory palace, or mind palace technique. This method is a mnemonic device adopted in ancient Roman and Greekrhetorical treatises (in the anonymous Rhetorica ad Herennium, Cicero's De Oratore, and Quintilian's Institutio Oratoria). Many memory contest champions claim to use this technique to recall faces, digits, and lists of words….
So, mind palace huh. Still peculiar. Let’s see the next book.
Eidetic memory
Eidetic memory (/aɪˈdɛtɪk/; sometimes called photographic memory) is an ability to vividly recall images from memory after only a few instances of exposure, with high precision for a brief time after exposure, without using a mnemonic device. Although the terms eidetic memory and photographic memory are popularly used interchangeably, they are also distinguished, with eidetic memory referring to the ability to view memories like photographs for a few minutes, and photographic memory referring to the ability to recall pages of text or numbers, or similar, in great detail. When the concepts are distinguished, eidetic memory is reported to occur in a small number of children and as something generally not found in adults, while true photographic memory has never been demonstrated to exist…
Still very peculiar.
Blip, Blip, Blip.
Oh, it seems interface finished scanning.

Interesting. Now there is a symbol one the second door. Looks like Solomon’s seal and color seems to morph to different ones every second. Hmm mysterious.
Now that doors information showed up on the Interface I think I can open them. Let’s try the first door.
Click.
Yes, finally it opens. In a plain that seems to span almost infinitely I see a little sprout on only hill in this plain waving in the wind under a blue sky. Strangely though even without a sun the sky is as bright as the outside.
So, this is the change that the fruit I ate brought. Inside feels exactly like the forest. Air so fresh I can almost taste it. Feeling of familiarity and warmth. So, this is the affinity with nature huh. Not a bad feeling. Closer I get to the little sprout more I feels like I’m standing next to the gigantic tree that I’m under. Does that mean the fruit I ate was some kind of seed?
Well whatever happened, happened so not much I can do but to adapt to the situation. So, this little sprout is the one that converts pure energy to vitality huh. That will be convenient over the time I’m sure.
Wait a minute how do I know what a pure energy is? Let’s see. I will myself to door on the second floor and enter the library. And picks up the book with azure cover and read.

The Normal Dungeon Core: Lethe
Just a normal, standard, no extra frills or gills, dungeon core LitRPG novel in a fantastical world. And as usual, a system exists! Prologue: You know all those stories about reincarnation? Where our beloved (or hated) protagonists are transferred to a new world to conquer, defeat the demon lord, rescue the princess. or are made into mythical gems of power with control over Monsters and Men (psst..a dungeon core)? Where they get a cheat-like ability, are special, granted privileges, or have knowledge from another world? Well, I read about them too in my spare time before I came here. At least, I think I did. Now, you might be asking, where is 'here' ? To answer your somewhat specific, yet vague, question my dear audience...I don't know! But what I do know is that...well nothing other than I had a past life...I think... Anyway...You are correct in assuming that I was indeed reincarnated into a dungeon core! But... ..I have no idea who I was. ...I don't seem to have any special powers or skills or cheats. ....And I was specifically told by Mr. S that I am not, and never will be, "special." Now, if you are confused, then I'm doing a great job, because you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, I haven't given you a background story, or taken you through the last few hours of my new existence. We will get to that! I promise! The main reason I am telling you this absurd and completely delusional preface, is to introduce to you the idea that I, as in me, the new dungeon core, am not "special".............. With that out of the way, how about we rewind time a bit to when I...developed my consciousness? Yes? Great! Lets goooooo! ---------

Party Leveling
{A new notification has arrived.} In front of a few people, these hologram-looking messages appeared and changed their lives in entirely different forms. Things such as growing stronger, becoming smarter, feeling more agile, became possible within short periods of time from that point onwards. The one who regretted his weak healing abilities for years began to chase after the magic powers that could turn reason and sense upside down while keeping his goal, this duty to the wrongs he committed. The other one, who complained about his lack of strength, strove towards the path of an unbeatable champion to protect those he held dear. When the person who had everything found a path to desire for more, not fearing the consequences and the obstacles, he also began to walk onwards to a new life. And among them, the one who walked aimlessly but also never stepped down on the choices he made along the way, was the one who couldn’t be ignored nor disrespected by anyone. The “Player” system that they all obtained, and which granted them several abilities, knowledge and directions, was also the beginning of an entire new era in this world where monsters, magic and technology, were already common and wide-spread. There’s not a single hero, but after committing mistakes after mistakes, learning from the painful and thorny path that they take, and growing as people with the people that surround them, then someday... there will certainly be saviors. [Quick reminder that this novel is also being published in Webnovel(dot)com and ScribbleHub(dot)com]

As a mere commoner, his life hasn’t been overly complicated yet by the change – but as winter sets in, this is about to change.
