《The Heavens Shall Fall》Chapter 49: Broader

On the room, Dippy searched around for some information about the guild. Ming Li's aim was to find information about the dark aura surrounding the guild. There were several scrolls and books lying around in Dippy's room. Ming Li checked each and everyone of them using Dippy. He was shocked from the abundant information he got from Dippy's books and scrolls. "So there are Ten groups that holds the greatest power in this lands. Crystal Leaf Sect, Golden Phoenix Order, Black Spider Guild, Ten Great Merchants Union, Li Clan, Zhao Clan, Blue Dragon Sect, Divine Earth Sect, Holy River Tribe, Yang Clan. Besides these ten, there were also some other groups, however they could not compare against the Ten Powerhouses." Ming Li then pondered for a while "Also, these scroll states that the land which we reside in is only a small plane from the hundreds of planes that exist. To be able to go to a different plane, one must reach the Heavenly Realm or someone from the Heavenly Realm must accompany you to reach the other planes." With all of the unexpected information he got, he was flabbergasted and could not digest the information properly. Suddenly being introduced to a new world made him feel extremely small and made him unconsciously reject the idea. However, the scroll he got seemed real and ancient. It does not seem like a made up tale created to amuse kids. Also, he never heard of the Heavenly Realm. As far as he knows, the Soul Ascension Realm was the limit of being a seeker. So these new information made him more interested in the scrolls and books at Dippy's room. He read more books, however, he didn't find anything related to the black aura in the guild. It does not seem like that it was a common knowledge shared to the younger generations. But he was still satisfied with some interesting information he got. His eyes shone with interest as he made Dippy walk out of the room and investigate more. Days passed, however he did not get much information on the dark aura. Also, he never found any new information regarding the other planes. It seems like the information was limited to what he already knew. While he did not get too much information regarding the dark aura, he found some interesting legend about it. That the dark aura came from a demon who was killed and sealed deep below the mountain. When Ming Li came across the word "Demon" he instantly felt the urgent need to find the source of the aura. If he could use the demonic energy of the demon just like the corpse he got, he would become more powerful which could help him in his fight with the Black Spider Guild. He spent most of his effort looking for more clues, and spent his remaining time killing guild members and getting stronger. Time passed, and he rapidly grew stronger. With his constant gathering of soul ores through killing, he became rich enough to buy tons of demon's grace. The current amount of demon's grace on his possession, could allow him to skyrocket to the tenth level of Body Tempering Realm. Never in his wildest dreams would he expect that he could reach such a level in a short amount of time with his crappy core. Killing and stealing made him realize the reward of bad things. However, because of his little remaining morals, he does not want to steal or kill anyone that wasn't his enemy. After continuous failure in gaining more information, he decided to leave Dippy on his own for a while and increase his level. Ming Li left a portion of his consciousness on Dippy which he could use to still control Dippy even he was under deep meditation if he wished to. On a room at Nutty's place, Ming Li sat crossed legged surrounded by dozens of demonic nature's dew. Each nature's dew would enter his body making his energy rise tremendously. Sweats poured from his forehead as he focused in absorbing all the demonic energy from the nature's dew. Every breath he took would have traces of demonic energy in it. Various screech could be heard from each drop of nature's dew, which Ming Li could not get used to. The screech felt as if it originated from the underworld and would always make Ming Li feel danger every time he absorbs the nature's dew. However, this did not stop him from greedily absorbing everything. With the incoming war, his primary goal was to get as strong as he can to ensure his survival. ... Months passed and Ming Li still sat crossed legged unmoving on his room. There was no more demon's grace surrounding him, however his aura was erratic. It would sometimes be extremely high, and sometimes extremely low. His face was also full of discomfort while breathing with inconsistent rhythm. After a few breaths his frown grew more evident as he slowly opened his eyes and said "This is not working, I can't get through the bottleneck of the body tempering realm. I have reached the tenth level in three months and fifteen days of continuous absorption of demonic energy, however I haven't made any improvement on the last fifteen days." Ming Li sighed and said "I have read in the documents in Dippy's room that to enter the Fusion Realm, one should combine his soul and body. But my soul seems to reject merging with my body because of my demonic core.... I guess I really have to try doing that..." "Also, I feel bothered by the fact that I have't found out the source of this dark aura. It also hinders me from moving further. It seems like I really need to satisfy this first before I could actually move forward." Ming Li said while shaking his head slowly. After a while, Ming Li stood up and went out of his room and swallowed a pill to lower his level up to the third level of body tempering realm. He has been meditating in his room for a whole four months, so It has been a while since he went out. "Ming Li! Where have you been!? I have been looking all over for you. I thought you have died or something." Pan Bo shouted while frantically running towards Ming Li. "I have been on secluded meditation for a while. Why are you looking for me? What happened?" "Nothing much, I have just been worried. But guess what! I have increased several levels while you were stuck in your room doing nothing." Pan Bo boasted. Ming Li slightly chuckled and said "So you only came to look for me to boast?" "No! I have good news. The guild has been offering items to improve our levels rapidly in exchange for monster cores. I have used that to gain level rapidly. I am almost at the tenth level right now." Ming Li was a bit surprised in the growth of Pan Bo. Compared to him who spent millions of soul ores, Pan Bo's growth seems to be much easier. "Tsk, This core of mine really is a bad luck. Also the guild seems to be preparing for war already, but what will they do with the monster cores? Is it related to the dark aura that seems to be growing more dense?" "Come on! Let's hunt together. I'll help you rapidly increase your level." Pan Bo offered excitedly. Ming Li shook his head and said "I am sorry, but I have some things to do. Maybe next time." "Hmm, Ok, Just tell me when you're ready." Pan Bo left while saying those words. When Pan Bo left, Ming Li connected his consciousness with Dippy and immediately shouted "WHAT THE #3&&, Dippy are you a #&@(*$ rabbit?" Ming Li felt a headache coming and sighed. "I guess leaving only a small portion of my consciousness to control you could not control your stupid lust. However good thing is that you gained some good information." "So the monster cores being collected are really for the dark aura. Even though Dippy did not get the information on how they use it and its exact location, he found out the people who knows something about it." Ming Li smiled while thinking of a plan to get more information on the names Dippy gave him. "Gui Zhong, the weakest one who knows about the dark aura, he is at the second level of Fusion Realm, and a main member of the Gui Clan. Let us see if your name really suits you!" Ming Li laughed and strode towards the forest outside the guild. Along with the information about the people who have knowledge regarding the dark energy, Dippy gave him the exact location where Gui Zhong leads his group to hunt for monsters.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

8 142Plants VS Zombies Post Apocalyptic Fanfic
Steven Weller thought he survived the worse of doom's day. That food shortages and zombies were the worse of his problems. Oh was he so wrong? Now even plants can kill. I planned is a story to be a new original post-zombie apocalyptic with the monster plants from the Plants vs Zombie games. This story is full of zombies, betrayal, giant toothy zombie flash-hungry plants, tower defense like monemts, and lots of bullets. I named it a Fanfic because I don't want to be copyrighted by the Plants vs Zombie people. I hope only good positive things to come from this.
