《The Heavens Shall Fall》Chapter 35: Treasures

Along with Great Elder Gu, Elder Lou and Elder Han, Ming Li went back to the shop. Since he have fulfilled all the request of the Ten Great Merchants Union, he immediately asked for his reward. He felt so excited that he can't wait for the next day to see what is inside the holy inventory. If he can't see it within the day, he felt that his lifespan would decrease dramatically. Since he chose to seek knowledge, he has to satisfy whatever piques his interest. Giving up would give him the same backlash as what happened when he gave up on enlightenment regarding the six suns. When they entered the shop, Great Elder Gu suddenly said "We will use this dimension altering artifact to enter the holy inventory. Only Great Elders and above can enter the inventory, so I will be the only one to assist you inside." Ming Li's excitement grew even more when he heard that only Great Elders can enter it. It means that the items inside might be rarer than what he initially thought. He immediately nodded and didn't say a word trying to hide his enthusiasm. Great Elder Gu did some incantations and dripped his blood on an altar full of symbols. When the drop of blood touched the symbols, a small rift appeared above it. Great Elder Gu then stretched his arms towards the small rift and used his energy to forcefully rip the space to increase the size of it. The space was slowly teared and the size of the rift became larger than a full grown man. Ming Li stared in amazement on how the space was simply ripped open by Great Elder Gu. He instantly realized that only those with permission can open the holy inventory and no one can open it easily. "We can only stay inside the inventory for quarter an hour, so be sure to decide quickly." Great Elder Gu said. When Ming Li heard this, he felt torn, since he wanted to study the holy inventory and its contents more, however he noticed that even Great Elder Gu has a limit on how long he can actually maintain the rift. Maybe it was the rule set by the union, so he simply nodded and accepted the time limit. Great Elder Gu then wrapped Ming Li using his energy and guided him to enter the rift. Inside the rift, Ming Li saw Great Elder Gu coming out of the torn space from the outside world. Ming Li was amazed on how big the space of the holy inventory was. He also noticed that the boundaries of the space was very similar to a cube. He instantly thought that the whole holy inventory might be an actual cube, however because of its enormous space he disregarded the idea and focused his attention to the items infront of him. There were various items inside the holy inventory. Ming Li's eyes glittered every-time he saw something that looks expensive. He could not identify all of the items inside, but the feeling that every item gave him was extremely strong. It was like any item inside can easily slaughter him if it was used against him. There were many books and weapons inside the holy inventory. There are also armors and random scrolls. Even the Ten Great Merchants Union does not know the use of all the items stored inside, that's why they were reluctant on giving away any treasure inside. Each treasure might hold a deep secret that they have yet to discover. Ming Li's gaze swept over all of the item. He felt dangerous energy from some items, so he chose not to get close to them. On the midst of his joyful search, he felt something unusual. On a desolate side of the holy inventory he saw a tattered book. When he saw the book his core thrummed with excitement. It was the same feeling whenever he see abundant amount of demonic energy. He became excited and immediately went near the book. Great Elder Gu followed while silently observing him. Great Elder Gu saw how Ming Li observed every item before choosing one, but when he saw Ming Li came near a worn out book, his brows furrowed. He knew that Ming Li wasn't a simple man, so there might be a reason he was attracted by the book. Truthfully Great Elder Gu has a bit of knowledge regarding the book, they identified it as a form of art, but they cannot understand it and assumed it to be a low class minor art based on the energy it gave off. However Ming Li felt different about the book. He can clearly see traces of demonic energy on it. It was different than normal demonic energy, it was something profound. Ming Li stared at the book like he found a great treasure. When he opened the book, he saw some normal text, but along those normal text were some inscriptions written in demonic energy! When he saw this his eyes were lit with fervor. He could not read the inscription but he felt that it is something that would be useful for him. Before choosing the book, he glanced at several other treasures he had set his eyes on and sighed with deep regret. "Too bad I can only take one." Ming Li thought. If he knew that there would be tons of rare treasure beyond his imagination inside the holy inventory, he would have fought for another item. However a deal is a deal. So Ming Li could only stare at all those treasures and say his goodbyes. When he closed the book Great Elder Gu said "Is that what you picked?." Again Ming Li gazed around and felt his heart starting to swell. He looked at Great Elder Gu with eyes full of pleading as if he wanted to tell him that he wants another item. When Elder Gu saw Ming Li's weird gaze he slowly shook his head without even knowing why. It was like Ming Li's longing for another treasure was transmitted to his body and he rejected it unconsciously. Ming Li's eyes became slightly wet with tears when he saw Great Elder Gu shaking his head. It was like a scene of being rejected by someone you love the most. Ming Li then slowly closed his eyes and breathed deeply. When he opened his eyes, he took a last look at the treasures then said "Yes, this is what I want." Great Elder Gu was a bit dumbfounded on Ming Li's weird reactions but he didn't say a word. He was also curious why Ming Li picked something not noteworthy, but he also didn't comment on that, since it would be beneficial for them if Ming Li didn't pick something rare. Ming Li then closed his eyes as he walked towards the rift. He already checked all the items and even checked the holy inventory itself to satiate his curiosity, and decided to avoid looking at other treasures to avoid greater feeling of loss when he leave the holy inventory. Great Elder Gu looked at him with a bit of respect when he saw Ming Li going straight to the rift when the time limit was near. Most people would be stubborn and will wish to stay more. However, Ming Li didn't even glance back and walked slowly towards the rift. What Great Elder Gu didn't know is that Ming Li even forgot the time limit. But he was emotionally hurt when he thought about leaving behind such a large amount of treasure. When they left the holy inventory, the rift instantly closed and the space stabilized as if nothing happened. Elder Lou and Elder Han saw Ming Li holding the tattered book and they were a bit surprised why Ming Li picked the book. For them the book was in the bottom portion in terms of worth inside the inventory. There are tons of treasure rarer than the book Ming Li is holding, so Elder Lou only sneered and looked away. However Elder Han felt puzzled since he thought that Ming Li was somewhat greedy and would not allow to be not properly compensated, so he thought that the book might have some use that they don't know. He pondered for a moment, but he gave up on the thought, since even the ten great merchants can't identify it. On the other hand Ming Li kept sighing and looking at the blank space where the rift was located. He stared at the symbols below and embedded it deep in his soul. After that, he bowed deeply at the elders and said "Thank you for the treasure, I will use it well." then he took his steps leaving the room. Outside, he stared at the sky and thought "One day I will create my own holy inventory." After a bit he continued his steps and left the shop.
