On his room, Ming Li was laying on a luxurious bed and thinking what else he could do with all his soul ores. He was holding random magical items with a twisted smile on his face. In the village where he stayed with his master, he can't act like a corrupt individual since he was trying to maintain his perfect image so he can gain more benefits. Now that he was alone and with a large amount of soul ores, he can't help but free all his pent up greed and enjoy life. He felt a bit of guilt for his act and kneeled "Master forgive me. You know that this is my real personality. Please forgive your disciple. As for the villagers, I will use the all the village riches in a good way please rest assured." Again, his personality reverted back then he enjoyed everything be bought. He read a lot of books and didn't feel tired at all. In his thoughts, he planned to read everything he bought in just a few days. While he was reading, the door was suddenly knocked open. He was startled and immediately activated his shield. When he saw that there are more than five people outside and they felt a lot stronger than him. He unhesitatingly jumped out of the window and dashed outside. "That rat escaped. Follow him!" Gui Mo shouted. "Who the hell are those guys? Did I show off too much with my soul ores? Or are they friends of those idiots at the forest." Ming Li ran at the streets of the town as fast as he could. He planned to first get out of the town then escape through the forest. The Men were fast, they immediately caught up with Ming Li outside the town. Luckily, Ming Li memorized the forest before getting inside the town, which allowed him to use several routes to shake of some of the men pursuing him. His breathing became rugged as he tried to escape. Unfortunately, one man caught up with him. It was Ru Gao, He was a young man around sixteen, but he was already at the eight level of the beginners realm. Ming Li felt the deadly crisis he was in. He immediately tapped his cube and produced multiple magical bombs and threw it at Ru Gao making it explode. Along with the explosion, he tried to escape but Ru Gao caught up with him fast without even a scratch. Ru Gao was calm and composed and did not rush to capture Ming Li. He was the type of person who was extremely cautious and would never rush things. "Seems like he has a really big cube. He really is rich" Ru Gao eyes gleamed with greed. "Seems like this one is hard to deal with." Ming Li kept attacking with water cannon and magical bombs he bought at the town. Ru Gao was pushed back a bit, but he was not badly hurt. He stayed at a safe distance and observed Ming Li properly, so he can successfully block every attack of Ming Li. On the other hand, Ming Li continuously attacked him with random low level skill as if he wasn't even thinking. "This guy is annoying. I can't loose him" Ming Li saw Ru Gao pull out a magical item while following him. He noticed that it was some type of communication device. Ming Li suddenly stopped when he saw this. His eyes showed determination as he activated his art. He decided to call this art "Art of Suffering". He felt pain rushing through his body, but he was already used to this pain. The various symbols appeared out of his body surrounding him. He then pointed his finger at Ru Gao and said "Torment". Ru Gao didn't pay much attention to this skill since Ming Li has been purposely attacking him with random useless skill. Ru Gao casually tried to parry the skill with his hands since it didn't seem strong. However, when the skill was just about to hit his hand, he felt a strong sense of danger and retracted his arms. He moved backward several paces and observed the symbols. Ming Li was amazed of how cautious Ru Gao was responding. But he could not waste time, so he rushed to Ru Gao and tapped his cube producing several more self destructing magical items. However, Ru Gao kept using some sort of thin glass barrier to block every attack Ming Li threw at him. He also tried to attack Ming Li, but Ming Li did't stop using several magical bombs to keep him busy. Ming Li madly produced dozens of magical items consecutively. It was like he was throwing away soul ore without care. Ru Gao remained calm and thought that Ming Li was being desperate to stop him from transmitting any message to his allies. When Ming Li was only three meters away from Ru Gao, he did not stop attacking with magical items. He completely relied on magical items to compensate for the difference in strength. Ru Gao also got the opportunity to attack several times when Ming Li was directly infront of him. He saw a small opening and gripped his sword. His sword glowed in red as he said "Death Pierce!" Ming Li dodged the attack but the sword penetrated his shoulder directly passing through it! Ru Goa's expression suddenly changed when he saw Ming Li grab his hand on the hilt of the sword. It also amazed him that, Ming Li did not even show a pained expression after being stabbed in the shoulder. "Torment" Ming Li murmurred as various symbol flowed from his hand to Ru Gao's arms spreading through his body. Ru Gao shrieked as he felt various pain flowing in him. The pain continued to grew worse as he tried to withstand it. Since he was three levels stronger than Ming Li. He was still standing and withstanding the pain. Ming Li was impressed on Ru Gao's determination. Also, he realized that when the enemy is stronger than him, the effect of torment will be lower. Ru Gao was still mentally conscious and can still move, but at his state he would not be able to catch up to Ming Li. Ru Gao immediately crushed the magical item he was holding causing Ming Li be alerted. "&^#@ he called for backup! I need to run" Ming Li pulled out the sword stabbing his shoulder. He pointed it at Ru Gao and directly stabbed at the same spot he was stabbed. Ru Gao wasn't able to dodge since he was still adjusting with the pain. "I will not kill you but I am not kind enough to just let you go with this!" Ming Li stabbed both of Ru Goa's legs! Ru Gao screamed in pain. Ming Li also stabbed his other arm making sure he would be unable to use both arms. Ming Li then kept the sword and escaped. Ru Gao was furious, the effect of torment faded away when Ming Li was gone. He screamed in fury and then stared at Ming Li's direction. "I was beaten by a mere fifth level. This is a great humiliation!" His allies found him as soon as they heard the scream. They searched the surrounding, but Ming Li was nowhere to be found. While escaping, Ming Li found a river nearby. The current of the river was strong and it seemed dangerous, but he didn't hesitate to jump into the river and allow himself to be swallowed by the strong currents. His shoulder was still wounded but he didn't feel the pain. What he was worried about was the possibility of hitting the rocks in the river, so he focused to remain conscious and dodge all the rocks while allowing himself to go with the river flow. After an hour of being battered by the current and hitting several rocks, Ming Li survived and was washed off at the side of the river. He was coughing up water and blood, also the wound in his shoulder continued bleeding. He tried to use his healing skill several times but it only slightly stopped the bleeding. The wound was severe, so a low level healing technique was not enough to heal the injury. On his side, a river spirit came floating and stared at him. The small spirit allowed him to use the power of the river to heal his wounds but he failed to completely heal himself quickly. The river spirit kept staring at Ming Li and kept pondering about something. "You are a human right?" The spirit asked. Ming Li said "Of course I am a human, do I look like something else?" "Are you sure? Coz you feel like a demon in some ways." The spirit replied

A Virtual Invasion
An invasion from another dimension is shut down by an Empire's traitor and the world has a scant few decades to build the strength to resist a multidimensional Empire. How will the world fair when no one even knows its doom is one barred gate away? Fortunately, the traitor has a plan. Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.

This fiction is based on a short story I wrote inspired by a prompt on r/WritingPrompts. Contrary to my plans, I haven't sketched out the story in detail or written anything ahead of time. I've discovered I don't do well at that. I'm just writing this thing and we'll see where it takes us, OK? Nothing every came easy to Ryan Shakespeare, but as an elite British Army sniper he had found a niche that suited him, right up to the point at which he found himself summoned to a world far from his own to fulfil the job of a champion.
