《The Heavens Shall Fall》Chapter 6: Fruit

Inside a dark cave, Ming Li suddenly opened his eyes and coughed violently. He looked at his body and glanced at the surroundings "I'm still alive, and It seems like I entered the cave under the water fall.". Then he stood up and dipped his arms on the water nearby and activated water healing which caused the wounds in his arms to slowly close. "This skill is useful, But at this level I cannot use it unless I have the approval of the spirit of water governing the specific water. Maybe if I raise its level I can bypass the approval of the spirit." While thinking deeply, he suddenly felt a chill on his body. He quickly hid himself on a small crevice and a giant Striped Water Snake crawled out from the cave. On its mouth was a Red Wolf, who was severely injured and on the verge of death. Ming Li knew that Red wolves are leaders of Black wolves, even hundred blue wolves can't match one. So his fear grew more as he trembled violently trying to avoid being found out. Ming Li was sweating profusely because this was the first time he saw a high level monster which caused him to shudder nonstop. Since Ming Li was at an extremely low level, the giant snake did not notice him. The snake got used at having lower level creatures roam around it, and as long as the low level creatures did not bother it, it will not even glance or attack bother attacking them. To be more precise the snake thinks of itself as the highest existence in this forest and does not even glance at weak creatures. Also the small monsters would not even dare to move when near it. The snake then swallowed the wolf and its movement slowed down. They say that once these type of snakes eat strong creatures it will need to hibernate for a while to totally absorb the energy from its food. Although they get stronger from just eating, they are at their weakest state when absorbing the energy from their prey. After a while the snake slowly crawled into a nearby spring. Spring water helps circulation of natural energy to the body. So every time the snake eats, it will submerge itself under a spring for some time. Ming Li breathed a sigh of relief when he saw this. He waited for quarter an hour before he came out of the crevice and checked the surrounding. "If that strong snake stays here maybe there is something interesting in its nest. It's already full, and I think it won't return for some time so I should check it out." He slowly went inside the cave careful with his every step. Even though there was no light entering the cave, it was well lit by natural glowing stones which absorbed nature essence and emitted bright glow. On the side of the wall near a glowing stone, he saw a small rough crystal. He went close to the crystal and leaned forward. As he slowly leaned his smile grew bigger and said "A Cube! I'm so lucky! Even if I almost died several times, luck is still on my side". Cubes are type of crystal which alters dimensions and creates an independent space where items can be stored. Every Cube has a space with specific size, the bigger space inside the Cube the more expensive it is. Generally, big Cubes are expensive and normal people does not have one. "Hahaha, I feel that my dream of becoming rich is slowly turning into reality" He grabbed the Cube and injected energy in it, he felt that the Cube was around ten cubic meter! His eyes went wide and said "a high grade Cube!!" I do not even know how much this cost! This is insane." Then he grabbed his bag and stored it inside the Cube. He kept the Cube safe on his pocket and went deeper on the cave with high expectation of greater harvest. At he end of the cave, he saw a half grown tree. On the tree, a single ordinary fruit can be seen hanging. He quickly plucked the fruit expecting something magical to happen. Twenty breaths passed but nothing happened, he then waited another ten breaths. Still, Nothing happened.. "I guess this fruit isn't something rare, Since I'm starting to get hungry I guess this is also good" He then took a bite and swallowed it. It didn't taste unusual, so he ate the whole fruit and felt satisfied. But after three breaths, his breathing slowed down and suddenly stopped. He fell on his knees and tried not to lose consciousness. If he lose consciousness and the snake comes back, he's dead! His sweat poured dripping at the ground and pain grew from his core. It felt like it was expanding greatly. As the pain increased, he started to puke blood. His eyes were bloodshot as his core continued to expand. He didn't dare make a single noise even with extreme pain, because even a bit of noise could alert the snake and attack him. Human core are the same as monster cores. The only difference is that it is located at the lower dantian region. Ming Li's Core is currently colorless and around half an inch in size. This is the beginner's core, Ming Li's core is the most common sized core every talent-less human have. Core sizes vary upon birth and this will determine the latent talent of an individual. Extremely talented individuals may possess around three inch core. Core sizes does not change until you reach soul realm, but right now Ming Li who was only at the beginner's realm is experiencing an increase in size of his core! After half an hour of torment, the pain slowly subsided and his core stabilized. Ming Li Immediately inspected his core. He noticed the change in size of his core, but the thing that puzzled him the most was that it changed in color! Only changing realms that it will change color, but it is quite obvious that he is still at the beginners realm, also he was shocked that his level suddenly rose by five! These changes shocked him greatly as he stared at the tree. The tree started to wither at a rapid pace and slowly turned into ash. When the tree started to wither, he suddenly heard a hissing sound. "The snake came back!" He stood up and glanced at the surrounding to look for an exit. At the edge of the cave, he saw a small light. With it being his only hope, he made as many water ball as he can, and five water balls appeared! Ming Li was shocked, but he was in a hurry, so he rushed to the small light and fired his water cannon. The water cannon hit the rocks, and some portion of the wall fell where a small crack appeared. The light also increased and he thought. "There is indeed an exit behind that wall." The snake was fast approaching, It was so fast that it was suddenly only fifty steps away from Ming Li. Ming Li gritted his teeth and fired another set of water cannon making a hole large enough for his body to enter. Then he rushed to the hole as he fired water cannon to the snake. The snake got startled but the water cannon did not affect it at all. "Human you dare to steal the fruit of divine blessing! I will eat you alive!" The snake tried to bite half of Ming Li's body who was halfway on the hole. As the the mouth of the snake descended, Ming Li frantically crawled on the thick was and fell on the other side of the wall. "Insolent Brat! I will hunt you till the end of the world" On the other side of the wall Ming Li was terrified, It was his first time to see a talking monster. Ming Li suddenly recalled some stories he heard, and he thought "Only monsters at soul realm can speak human language." The other side of the wall was another cave with a long narrow path. Ming Li ran as fast as he could, he ran extremely fast which shocked him. In just a few breaths, he reached the end of the cave which made him feel relived However, before he went out, he slowed down because he was cautious of another monster attack. While looking around, he gaped when he noticed that below his feet was a cliff and deep down was a body of water. The cliff was as high as the waterfall he fell into which made him hesitate a bit. But he was in deep trouble so he glanced behind him, then gritted his teeth. He stepped back three steps and run forward as he jumped straight to cliff! The fall was actually longer than what he expected which made him frightened of the actual height he jumped from, after a while he directly slammed on the water down below shooting deep in the water. Splash! Luckily Ming Li didn't lose consciousness and he swam to the rocky edge of the small lake. He breathed heavily and again started to run deep in the forest. He continued running for hours until he found a safe place to hide. Night fell and Ming Li was sitting crossed legged inside a small cave. His consciousness was wandering inside his core. "I really did increase five levels. That fruit was probably a rare treasure, but why is my core color red?" After thinking for a while, he gave up and concentrated on stabilizing his sudden growth. ...

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
