《Game Over》Chapter 7

Zero walked over to the podium and placed his hand on it.
WHOOM!
The walls slid open to reveal a blue rift floating in the air.
"Say, system. Is there a chance that all the monsters are dead?"
[No, host. They have all already respawned.]
"Oh, okay." Zero nodded his head and was about to step into the rift before he lowered his leg again.
"Say, system. Why do you have all this knowledge about this world?"
[You will find out one day, host.]
"Is it because you've taken other people to this shitty world before?"
[No, host. I've only ever transitioned you to the world of Aurim.]
"Oh, okay." Zero raised his leg and lowered it again.
"Say, sys-"
[Please enter the rift, host. There is no purpose in delaying the inevitable.]
"Ugh, who knows?" Zero grumbled. "What if there's actually people coming to rescue me this very instant?"
The system went silent for a moment and then replied, [The possibility of that happening is close to none, host. Please enter the rift and stop wasting your time.]
"Fine. If I die, then good luck finding a new host."
[You will not, host. I can almost guarantee you that.]
Zero sighed and walked into the rift.
The feeling of weightlessness and disorientation came again, although it wasn't as bad as the first time Zero entered the rift. When the feeling finally disappeared and Zero felt solid ground beneath him again, he heard a voice.
"Welcome to the 5th Room. Please eliminate all enemies or survive for three hours to exit the Room. There is no currently no Rule activated."
The lady with the robotic, monotone voice sounded out again.
Zero's eyes flew open as he said in desperation, "5th Room?!? Won't I be dead before I escape from this hellhole?"
But then Zero's entire body froze from shock as he took in the sight in front of him. Surrounding him were walls, and he seemed to be in a cavern of some sort with a high ceiling and wide walls and with tiny holes in the ceiling to provide light. But the thing he was most worried about was the glowing eyes peering at him from the darkness. With a pear-shaped body, a twitching dirty pink nose, a hairless tail, beady little eyes, and to top it all off; a disgusting-looking mouth with slobber gushing out.

"Rats. Big ones too," Zero grumbled. "I'd take a goblin over rats any day."
One of the rats suddenly rushed towards Zero without any warning.
"Beggars can't be choosers. Come at me, bastard!"
As the rat pounced towards Zero's face, he swung his almost forgotten shortsword towards its head. As it was too late to change its trajectory, Zero's blade found its mark and struck the rat straight on the head, although it didn't slice clean through as he wished.
Zero flung the dead rat stuck on his sword aside as it crashed onto the floor beside him.
[You have slain a Giant Rat. +5 Experience Points.]
With blood dripping off of his blade and an almost maniacal expression on his face, Zero didn't know how terrifying he looked right then. The other rats, having obviously learned their lesson from their dead comrade, cautiously approached Zero. Then, two of them ran at Zero at the same time.
Zero swung the sword at the one in front of him, but the rat dodged and leaped aside causing Zero to miss. Instead, Zero kicked it in the face, causing it to let out a pitiful sounding screech. However, the rat coming in from behind reached Zero at this point, opening its jaw and crunching onto Zero's leg.
"AUGH! FUCK!" Zero let out a scream.
[Skill Acquired: Crushing Bite]
"Why does a rat have a fucking skill? And what am I even going to do with that skill???"
Zero twisted his body and stabbed down directly at the rat's head.
CRUNCH.
The rat's head split wide open, causing it to release its teeth from Zero's leg. Zero pulled out his blade and kicked the rat with his uninjured leg for good measure.
[You have slain a Giant Rat. +5 Experience Points.]
Zero then ran over to the motionless rat that he had kicked in the face earlier and stabbed his blade down at its head.
CRUNCH.
[You have slain a Giant Rat. +5 Experience Points.]

"Okay, I can do this," Zero tried to calm himself down. "They're just rats. Nothing to be afraid of."
Then, all of a sudden, all the rats hiding in the darkness ran at Zero.
Zero almost fainted from shock as he watched all the rats flying towards him. He activated {Piercing Thrust} and his blade shot through one of the rats that were the closest to him.
[You have slain a Giant Rat. +5 Experience Points.]
He swung his shortsword in a downwards fashion towards another rat that was too close for his comfort, although he missed with the consequence being the rat pouncing towards his shin. When the rat got close enough, Zero kicked straight up, causing the rat to soar backward and land on the rocky floor with a thump.
With a scream that he would consider to be a battle-cry, Zero ran at the rest of the rats.
Zero laid on the cold cavern floor with the shortsword in his hands as he examined his wounds that would surely be fatal to a normal human being.
"You know what? I kinda like this cheat," Zero said as he gasped for air.
[You have leveled up, host.]
"Really? Status sheet."
A black window appeared in front of Zero.

"What's the pluses for, system?"
[You can increase one attribute by one. Select the one you would like to level up.]
Zero thought for a second then chose AGI.
If anything goes wrong, I can always run.
"Room cleared. All monsters defeated. No rewards are available. Granting exit to all survivors." The monotone female voice suddenly rang out.
"Aw c'mon! I don't get anything? This is rigged. Isn't there only supposed to be a slight chance that there are no rewards? After all that I just went throu-"
Zero's words were interrupted by his vision going black as he felt a sense of weightlessness. He appeared outside of the entrance of the 5th Room, and he examined his surroundings as he crumpled to the ground.
"I'm taking a break. I don't care what you say. I'm done."
[Very well, host. Please recover and then continue on your way.]
Zero groaned.
A goblin slowly slid off of Kai's katana as he examined his surroundings.
"Leave one alive, Anun. We still need to come back through here later."
"Got it, Kai," Anun replied as he waved his staff. "Bind!"
The goblin Anun directed the spell at locked in place as if it was bound by invisible ropes.
Anun walked over to it with real ropes as he sighed, "Sorry, buddy. My mana can't last long enough to support that {Bind}."
After Anun finished tying up the goblin with it staring daggers at him, he looked up to find Kai taking a small expensive-looking blue crystal out of his satchel.
Anun's eyes almost popped out of his head as he stuttered, "K-Kai, that's expensive as hell! Why are you using it here?"
Kai glared at Anun and replied, "Did you forget that this is a timed mission? We can't afford to spend three hours waiting here. Besides, the rewards for this mission easily makes up for the losses."
Anun sighed, "Whatever you say. You're the boss."
"Then onwards we go."

Entangled Fates Book 1 - Quantum Beginnings
“By far, the greatest danger of Artificial Intelligence is that people conclude too early that they understand it.” —Eliezer Yudkowsky Hey all, we're moving over to book 2. This content is in a state of transition. The book is now availble on Amazon (includes extra chapters): https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07W1534R8 Artificial intelligence was nearly mankind’s last invention. AI took off like a rocket, then when it racked up an impressive death toll, it crashed before it could blossom and took most high-tech industries with it. Resistance and fears became deep-set. Two decades after the infamous Rev. 4.6 incidents, humanity hasn’t quit dreaming of the wealth and power that could be at their fingertips. A new generation of mega-corporations rose from the ashes. When one melds a quantum computer to a barely functional mental patient as a PR move, there are those who seek to profit, those who want to destroy it, and Alex. Alex Sage is a typical college student trying to keep up his grades and maybe find a meaningful connection with the fairer sex. Then, an automated semi crashes into his home, killing his family and turning his head into a pin cushion in the process. Alex awakens to find most of his memories gone and an illegal AI hidden in his brain implant. Now the pet project of a tech billionaire and heavily in debt, Alex struggles to stay valuable enough to be kept online. Still grappling with the repercussions of his injuries, and threats from a dangerous anti-augmentation political movement, there are no easy answers and threats loom around every corner. Alex must use whatever resources he can to escape from under the thumb of a ruthless corporation, while keeping those he comes to love safe. Chapters will stay up on RRL until Aug 10. It'll go up on Kindle Unlimited after that. How do you get those extra chapters I didn't have planned for RR? If you want them, they'll be in the published book. Book 2 will still make sense without them - I made sure of that. But... isn't $3 a lot for extra chapters? Think of it as tipping me for a good job and you'd also be getting my eternal thanks. If you enjoyed it so much that the idea of missing out a few chapters haunts you, I did my job as an author and made an engaging story. What's in those extra chapters? Resolving a few issues, set up for the cybernetic revolution, a rather intense sex scene with a new partner, revelations of who's really pulling strings, and a bit of set up for book 2. Complaints that people missed out on it when it was published here won't help (sorry!). I posted this for the folks who helped me shape the book, which is you all! (Again, yay!) But... Why! Why not keep it all on RR forever? My editor likes being paid for one. For two, I'd like the ability to get broader readership. If I break even on editor costs, I'll be incredibly happy. What about book 2? Drafts for Book 2 will go up around Sept 10. My draft of Book 2 is done, and it will be handed to the editor once Book 1 is published. Feedback has been even more positive. Beta readers devoured it and wanted more. I'll add a link to Book 2 once it's up on RR. I'm more or less, using you all for Beta Readers, so you get it before it's "canon" and edited. I invite active and meaningful feedback during this process. In return, you get early access to chapters. That does mean that the book content or plot might be adjusted before it gets published as I refine it. Sex Y/N? Yes. I heard the feedback, 90% wanted it explicit. You all will get the "full" experience. Will I dump all of book 2 here? Honestly, I'm not sure yet. At a minimum, it'll be up to the 75% mark as we collect feedback, much like what I did with book 1. It really depends on how good the feedback is and how nice people are. Lots of support + meaningful feedback to make it better = higher likelihood you get all the book. Will be it up here indefinitely? No, it'll probably go up on KU at some point, but I'll make sure there's enough time for a large readership to grab it here. Then we move to book 3 which already is around 60K words already. What about other adventures in the same universe/characters? Yep. Absolutely. Nothing ready to share yet though. I plan to keep those side chapters and more slice of life stories as RR exclusive. Since I'm carving this off in book-sized segments, I'll have to figure out where those disconnected story arcs belong. I'm open to suggestions.

"It's stuck in my head because neither of you seem to have common courtesy to practice somewhere else." Izuku snapped back, not wanting to deal with either of the arrogant males.Shoto seemed unfazed by his attitude. "You've got a nice voice." He mused.
