《Curses》15. The first boss

I was slipping, acting more like my old self. Tyler was an anchor that kept me acting kinda like a normal person. I only noticed that I was acting strange once I was dodging another fist thrown by the boss, a goblin baron. I’m laughing like an insane person, which does apply in this case.

The boss is cursed with {Lesser Curse of Immolation}, which costs around 100 mana to cast on the boss. The boss was slowly dying while I danced around each blow, hit after hit the goblin baron failed to connect with their slow but powerful blows. I started to wonder if this is what I wanted again, as it was extremely similar to how I acted before I restarted the tower. In my lack of concentration one of the blows connected, sending me flying into the cave wall.

Coughing up blood, I knew I was dead if I got hit again. Struggling to sit up, I wondered where the boss was, getting fully up I see the boss was having its insides boiling, the pain finally being too much for it. That was way too close, I wasn’t immortal anymore, I can’t take hits like that. My stats aren't what they used to be, I can’t lose concentration in battles anymore.

The boss finally died and I got my sweet level up.

Plopping my free point into dexterity, I check the drops. It was a mana crystal, like normal, but there was something I was kinda expecting a pen. A quill pen. Well, it was time to get them checked out. Heading to floor 2 seeing the similar caves then heading down to the tower entrance.

I didn’t see Tyler and his car was still here so I headed over to the exchange.

Walking over to the crystal exchange counter, I waited in line. When it was my turn, the employee said “Place the crystals on the counter”. Acquiescing, I placed the dozens of crystals on the counter. Their face went into shock as they saw the number of crystals I put on the counter. Quickly adding up the number of crystals and quality of them, the amount added up to a bit over $1,600.

Thanking them and grabbing the money I headed over to the appraisal counter. Waiting in line again I took out my items that need to be identified. Somehow I never learned how to identify anything.

After some time I finally got to get my items appraised. “Place the items you wish to identify on the counter.” Hearing this I placed the two paintbrushes and the quill pen. The Identifier placed their hands on each item. After a short bit, the identifier turns and writes down what each item does. They turn and hand them to me.

“That will be $1,000.” I handed over the money and check out the papers they handed me.

These were amazing for me. Being able to sell my curses would be amazing for acquiring funds. Walking away feeling pretty good, I see Tyler exiting the tower with Sara, Tom, and Jerry. Tyler looked like he had run a marathon, while the others only looked a little winded.

Tyler spotting me quickly says his goodbyes and rushes to his car, I follow. Entering the car Tyler lets out a sigh. “That did not go well.” I laugh.
