《Curses》7. The Talk

I haven’t had a good relationship with my parents since I was 6. The first time I came home with a non-perfect report card was when it started. They had plans for me to be a lawyer, I never really had plans to do so. They tried to control every part of my life for as long as I knew them. This was the last time I talked to them in my last life.

I stood in front of their house for at least an hour before I sighed and walk up and opened the door. They were both there waiting for me. I didn’t tell them I was going out today or that I was going to the tower.

“Zain,” my mother basically spat out. This was how it went down last time. They were kicking me out. I wasn’t the child they wanted that they let me know. After years of waiting they could only deal with their perfect child, my younger sister.

God did I hate her. They learn from their mistake of giving me too much ‘freedom’ and mapped out basically everything she did. Apparently, that included taunting me too and I quote ‘gain a sense of sibling rivalry.’ She’s 17 right now and the biggest reason I’ve been prepping to move out for years. Oh ya, this wasn’t a shock even last time I went through it. I had saved about 3 thousand over 3 years of odd jobs to move out in about a week.

Going back to why I hate my sister, she was the perfect child. Always had perfect grades and a perfect attitude, according to my parents. Once my parents thought that I was a failure they just ignored me in favor of her and she knew it. She could do whatever she wanted to me and get away with it. She’s litten my room on fire 7 times, smashed 2 guitars, and broke my hand 3 times. Every time getting away with it.

“Mother,” I say frigidly. I knew what I could and couldn’t take when I left, that’s why I bought my car by myself. In that car, I had 5 sets of clothes and everything I cared about. I was ready to move out.

“Your father and I had a talk. We don’t want you in this family anymore. You’ve been written out of the will and if you are still on our property in 30 minutes we will call the cops,” My ‘amazing’ mother said.

With out talking I just walked back outside, entered my car, and drove off. I wasn’t angry or disappointed. I knew this was going to happen and wanted it to. This was the start of my life. The one I wanted to live.

I had one week till I move into my first apartment. It was a small one-bedroom one-bath apartment but it was what I could afford then. Grabbing my phone I dialed the one number that wasn’t my family, Tyler. He picked up after 4 rings.

“It finally happen?” Tyler asks me, worry clear in his voice.

“Yep, I’m finally free,” I say back, letting a small amount of my happiness in my voice.

“A bit earlier than planned, but you can stay with me until you can move into your fancy new apartment. In case you’re wondering my parents are already on board.”

“If that’s your definition of fancy, I don’t want to see your first apartment “I quip back. It felt good to have that over with.

Now was the beginning of my new life and this time I wasn’t going to be alone.
