《Dragged Into a Different World?!》Chapter 1: Unique Cheat

Chapter 1: Unique Cheat
After opening my eyes, I was greeted with a place I didn’t recognize.
As far as my eyes could see, there were only luscious trees surrounding me that gave off a different feel than I was used to. Most of them were huge, or maybe gigantic was the correct word.
If I had to make a guess, these trees were at least as big as a ten-story building. Because of that, the sky was completely covered with leaves and branches, leaving only fragments of the clouds and the blue horizon seeping through.
Still bewildered by the sudden change of scenery, I picked myself up off the ground, which was covered in a mountain of leaves, and looked around.
It didn’t seem like I was hurt, but I did have a few bruises here and there, and my clothes were covered in dirt. I took off my dirty blazer and rolled up my sleeves, letting the cool air brush against my skin.
The last thing that I could remember was the strange glowing portal. After it completely dragged me inside, I had lost consciousness. And when I woke, I found myself in this unknown forest that didn’t seem very friendly.
“What the hell is this place?”
Nobody was around so my question went unanswered and I decided to walk around and inspect my surroundings.
I walked and walked hoping to the find something that could lead me out of this forest. Although I was confused, I trudged onward with my safety in mind, a moment of carelessness and I could trip on the massive roots exposed like traps here. I’d be damn lucky enough if I didn’t crack my head on a sharp stone after that.
“Have I even made any progress at all?”
The unchanging scenery made me question myself once more. Nonetheless, I continued my trek.
I was not sure how much time had passed, but with my shirt completely untucked and sweat pouring down my back, I’d say I had walked for a few good hours already.
However, just before the small light I’m holding onto was extinguished, I arrived at a small clearing with water in the center. This area gave me the impression of holiness. There were various flowers I didn’t recognize laid on the ground as if they were offerings.
I hurriedly went to the water and splashed my head down into cold water, drinking as much as I could.
“Huh?”
As I was dunking my head, it felt like someone just pinched my nape— like a red ant suddenly bit me.
I massaged the area with my palm.
There was nothing there and the itchy feeling disappeared as soon as I raised my head.
After that explosion of water, it was my cheeks this time; both sides ached as if a small insect had bitten me. But I couldn’t see nor feel anything when I reached to touch my aching skin.
“#$#$!”
Some sort of voice erupted behind me, but I didn’t bother to check. I concluded that my hunger was playing with my brain again so I delved into water once more and satisfied my thirst.
*Pi…!*
You learned the skill, All-A
…What?
For a quick second, I thought I heard something resonating inside my head, a monotone voice. But alas, at my current state, it was hard to determine if I was merely hearing things. I continued to drink the water. It was cool and refreshing, with a faint mineral taste.
“You, stop what you’re doing right now!”
At the same time I heard the voice ring out, a pair of soft hands pulled me away from the body of water.

“Eh? What’s up?”
“Didn’t you know? This is sacred water, you’re not supposed to drink it!”
I was stunned by the sudden appearance of a beauty, but what’s more so, was the fact that I had already predicted her words beforehand.
Nevertheless, for a half-starved and dehydrated guy like myself, there’s no difference between sacred and regular drinking water. If it looks drinkable and tasted good, then it’s all the same.
However, the scowl on this girl’s pretty face seemed to imply that she wouldn’t let such excuses pass.
“I’m sorry, I was so thirsty I just had to…”
“Thirsty? Just had to? You just violated a spirit’s shrine!”
I’m not sure what type of deity it is but, judging from her reaction, it must be quite important.
“Once again, I’m sorry. Please forgive me.”
And just like that, not a question was asked and I immediately prostrated myself on the ground. I wanted to garner some good points right away—good enough to clear this misunderstanding at least.
But seriously though, if this thing is as important as she says, then why is it completely defenseless? Shouldn’t shrines like this be defended in some way?
Never mind the thought, I just hope she will forgive me.
“…Guess it can’t be helped.”
“Then…?”
“Apologize to the spirit and I’ll let you go.”
Hearing her words made me scratch my head.
Still, choosing the right words in these types of situations is for the best. That’s why, even though I was lost and very confused, I did what this girl had instructed me.
“I’m sorry Mister or Miss Spirit. I didn’t mean to violate your shrine.”
I spoke using the clearest tone I could muster. I sensed something bristle after that, and as if I was forgiven indeed, the girl finally spoke.
“That’s all they want. The spirits are satisfied. You may stand up.”
Oh well, I decided not to bother with her condescending voice and just pushed myself up. The moment I stood up, the girl stared at me. Without averting her glance, she shot me a gaze as if she was studying me all over.
At the same time, it made me realize just how cute she was as well.
Although she appeared innocent at first glance, her hazel eyes that reflected my visage looked sharp. Perhaps she was someone that would not hesitate to hit me without thinking twice. Well, that’s the impression I got based on her green hair tied up in two short twin-tails.
She does give me the vibe of a haughty ts*ndere.
“I haven’t introduced myself yet, but I’m Reimuz. I know this type of meeting isn’t the best but, nevertheless, it’s nice to meet you.”
I offered my hand to this girl while showing a wide smile. Hopefully, that’s enough of an introduction not to scare her away.
“Ah, that’s fine. And I’m sorry if I was a little rough on you.”
Albeit a little forced, she accepted my handshake. Her hands were soft and small, befitting her petite appearance.
She also seemed to be lacking on “that” part, but I’m not one to judge. I did come across a certain novel calling those types of chest as “justice.” As ridiculous as it sounds, it’s the truth and I’m unfortunately one of its avid followers.
“Don’t worry about it. I don’t keep any grudges.”
“Hehe, you’re not really in a position to say that, you know?”
She laughed. And it was such a beautiful laugh too!
Because of the good vibe I got from her, I continued our conversation to the next level—I wanted to know her name.
“Umm, I know this might sound ridiculous, coming from a guy you just met out of nowhere and all. But, since I gave out my name, would it be possible to know yours as well?”
“My name? Is it really that important?”
“Perhaps not. But for me it is.”
She detached her hand from mine and pressed it against her chest.
“…Celes. Just call me Celes.”
It was faint, but I think I saw her blush a little. Although I was hard to be sure. Conversing with girls wasn’t exactly my forte. And even then, I’m bad at holding normal conversations as well. But when I was talking with Celes I didn’t get shy like how I usually do when talking with girls.
“I see.”
“By the way, what are you doing out here so deep in our forest? You know that humans aren’t really allowed on these parts unless they have proper arrangement beforehand.”
Weird.
Her words were soft, yet they carry an entirely different meaning. That was the first time, but being referred to as a human really sounded strange to me.
And only then I realized that this girl, Celes, is an entirely different entity from me.
Just like those mythical forest dwellers from the net games I’ve played all the time, her ears were long and pointed.
Could Celes be an elf? Or is this merely cosplay? No, they must be real in order to move and twitch on its own like that.
Then… am I in a different world? The chance of all this being a prank is exceedingly low.
So many things vying for attention in my brain make me I feel like it’ll explode any moment now.
“You see, I was just going home from school and all of a sudden; I was dragged inside this weird portal. The next thing I knew, I was here in this forest. All by myself. I wandered and looked around, and that’s how I ended up in this clearing.”
There was no reason to lie, so I honestly told Celes what had happened to me so far.
Celes touched her chin and tilted her head, perhaps in an attempt to judge the sincerity behind my words. After a moment of thinking, she lit up, as if a large exclamation mark appeared above her head.
“So, you’re saying… you arrived here without realizing it?”
“That seems to be the case.”
I answered immediately since I know delaying would only make her feel uncertain.
“You promise you’re not lying?”
“I promise.”
Celes breathed a sigh as soon as she heard me say that.
“Alright, I’m headed to the city anyways, you can come along with me. However, after that, you’re on your own. Deal?”
This time, she was the one who reached out her hand with a smile. Of course, who am I to deny such kindness?
“Deal. Until we’ve reached the town, I’m in your care, Celes—”
*Groooowl~*
Goddamit! Why?! Why did you choose to grumble at this time, stomach?
I can feel the heat rising in my cheeks but, thankfully, Celes isn’t such a person to laugh at my miserable state. Although I can’t help but think that she’s holding in her laughter somehow.
Because of that, I threw out whatever ounce of shame I had left.
“Ahahaha, I haven’t eaten anything for who knows how long. Sorry to bother you, but do you have anything to spare? Please?”
Celes gave me a smirk and I laughed in return.
“Hehe, fine. Gather some firewood and I’ll make some food.”
“Yes ma’am!”
After getting her to agree, I swiftly left the clearing to gather some firewood.
*Pi…!*
Acquired a new title, Horny Dog
Again, that same monotone voice echoed inside my head. Don’t tell me…
“Status screen!”
A small blue window appeared in front of me. I almost slapped myself in surprise after seeing the words written on the small screen.
Status-Screen
Reimuz: LvL [01]
Class: Manipulator
Title: Horny-Dog
Alignment: Neutral
Skill-List:
All-A [Type: Absorption Skill], [Passive]
“Is this a game? But this feeling is too real, and besides, technology hasn’t advanced that far yet… Then… is it really a different world?”
Just moments ago, it said I acquired a new title.
I hesitantly pushed the button for my “title” and surprisingly, a separate window with a small list of words appeared.
[Broken Hearted Childhood Friend]
[Horny Dog]
“What is up with these ridiculous titles? Okay, I can understand Broken Hearted Childhood friend, but not Horny Dog!”
Oh well, disregarding such mockery for now, I tried pushing the button for the skill “All-A,” and a small information window popped up.
All-A [Type: Absorption Skill], [Passive]
Info: Reforms the user’s brain to comprehend and speak any language.]
“Oh, my, God! Is this for real?!”
Suddenly realizing that I’ve somehow morphed into a game character shocked me more than anything else, but having a skill like language comprehension blew my mind.
Of course, it was still too early to be making deductions at this point of time, but having a real elf—a beautiful creature that I’ve believed to be pure fantasy all this time—here with me heightens my conclusion that this is a different world.
To sum things up regarding this weirdness called “Status Screen,” it displayed my level but it didn’t show any other numerical stats.
My class “Manipulator” just didn’t make any sense to me at all.
My alignment is neutral—maybe this one will change regarding my actions.
It still needs more confirmation, but “absorption” must have referred to a skill I learned after consuming something. I learned it after drinking that sacred water after all.
“Damn complicated…”
While mulling over about these things, I gathered the necessary firewood and returned to Celes.
