《She, the one (old)》Chapter six: Clinging to a hairbreadth

You can anticipate longer chapters from now on, probably.
------------------------------------------------
At the moment my daily routine is similar to my human life’s. I lost my sense of time somewhere, tell me if you find it. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention whats the difference between humans and humas. The potential to use magic. That’s all.
I wake up, and try to go to the city. The guards won’t let me through. They send me away every day, but I still try to go in. If they remember my face they might let me in. Or at least talk to me.
The demi-humas country is too far away to just go there without proper preparing, and I need to go shopping in the town to do that.
Yeah, pretty stupid after claiming nothing will stop me. Let’s just not think about the past.
Anyway, after I’m sent away, I go hunt. I’m quick and strong so I catch small game with my hands. I can’t use magic yet, so no fire. The sticks trick won’t work, believe me, I tried. The bandits were always keeping one fire lit, since they had no mages. ⅕A tenth of the humas should be able to use basic magic tough.
After I skin them with some sharpened stones I made, I munch on the animals as they are. There is no fridge, so I only catch what I eat. I don’t have to eat much by the way. But today is a different day. I made some wooden spears yesterday to catch some real game. My hunting past helps me little, I know where to aim.
Searching for victims, I spot a nice deer near a pond. I quietly sneak closer and throw the spear. It goes trough the poor animal’s heart, and beyond. I’m sure this is why demons are feared.

I slowly walk next to it, and start to skin it. It has a nice skin, and the antler should worth something. After I’m done with the skinning I immediately wash it’s inside in the pond. Not sure if it will help, but I don’t want to worsen it’s worth. Finishing that, I improvise a triangular backpack from sticks and tendrils, and put it in. It’s surprisingly useful if you know how to braid. I go back and gut the deer. I finally get what I came for, tendons. I’ll make real bows later.
I never seen anyone here using bows. They probably don’t know how to make it. A good bow and arrow easily penetrates iron armor. The best ones even chainmail. Not that I can make one of those. I strain them in long sticks. Even if I mess up one, I’ll have another. I bind the sticks with tendons to the right side of my backpack, one by one. This way even if i put it down on the ground it won’t mess them up. I eat some of the meat, just as it is. I’m a demon, even if it’s disgusting, I feel that it tastes better this way. Let’s just ignore my common sense.
I take of my clothes I got from the bandits. It was a simple woman’s clothing, but when I grew I had to fix it with some hide, and it looked awful, so I covered the whole in hide. Now it looks like a casual hide armor, but there is cloth inside so it’s not that bad to wear. I had to use the dress I got from the slave trader to finish the inside. It was a cheap child dress but I liked it.
I wash myself in the pond, my wings are a little hard to wash but I somehow manage it.

I feel like I’m being watched. Probably just my imagination...
When I’m ready and dressed, i take my backpack and go back to my chosen tree. I say chosen tree but it’s actually a normal tree that I use as home. I climb up quickly and inside the foliage I see my not so well-made home. I have some planks to walk on, a makeshift wooden bed, a cabinet and a shelf. The best is that you can’t see in from the outside thanks to the thick foliage. I have no idea what kind of tree is this.
I treat the tree gently in exchange for the shelter. I did not break even one twig, or rip of any leaves. If I have some left over water or guts I burrow it next to it’s roots. Happy nature, happy me.
Still, basically the tree is my only talking partner right now… Do I count as an elf now?
I hang the tendom-sticks on a branch and put the hide on the shelf. After emptying it I put the backpack next to the bed.
I carve a comb from a twig in my freetime. My hair got long, and it’s deep red. Just like my eyes. I had to do something with my hair every day or it got in the way. I brush and grasp it with the comb from now on. In my opinion it looks quite good this way.
While doing these useless things the rest of the time in the day goes away. I rest on my bed, waiting for a tomorrow.

Sometimes, bad things happen to bad people. Joey is one of those bad people. She's not incompetent, but she's not a genius either, unless you count partying. Which you shouldn't. Because getting laid the night before your wedding is not the mark of intelligence, nor moral fortitude. FORTUNATELY, the wheel turns, and the day of that wedding, the city is attacked, and Joey is stolen away, in a manner which is entirely painful and appropriate. She is dragged through the portal, and sentenced to Eternal Torment...which just so happens to be very similar to some-nerd-shit RPG video game (Joey's words, not mine). She goes through class and race selection, meets her new people, gets banished by her people, finds a new people, gets in fights with them, and then ends up in the fabled Camie-Town, where she has to work her way up, from the lowest of the low. Eventually, she'll probably get banished from there too. She's not a good person you guys. Alternative Title: Joey's Adventure in Camie-Town.
